Windows 7 on ACER ASPIRE 5920G

i have recently installed win 7 x86 ultimate and evr is fine except for the media buttons on the right...in the beginning they were like dead, just on but no flashing when touching them...so i have updated the synaptics touchpad etc drivers and now when i touch them they become more bright, meaning they feel sth...but there is a red constant light, the last of the media buttons at the bottom, which was never on while i had acer's vista....;-/

@Alexboooom ok i found a way through acer's vista drivers....not synaptics...they won't work...vista drivers work ok on 7... ;-)

@Alexboooom yeah, you must use the one provided by acer for Vista. Such drivers are specially modified to suit the laptop model so using a default or original won't work. : )

@RudolphLesire There is a workaround to get rid of the flickering which is to stop the graphic card from changing down clock speed. You can try search for disabling powermizer windows 7 or something like that. For me, I used another method which is the risky method and that is flashing the VGA BIOS to older version and that stopped the flickering.

i've got this thing for about 3 years now and it's served me faithfully... that being said, i've had to dismantle it several times, do windows vista and 7 a few times over and fuck around with laptopvideo2go ... currently using the 257.15 on x64 win7pro...

this laptop has survived several drops from decent hights and kept working fine...

i have had some overheat issues, but reapplying the thermal paste and stable graphics drivers have fixed that...

with that said, this laptop is a bitch to take apart, because they hid the dmn screws whereever they could find even partially concealed space, and a magnetic tipped screwdriver is a must, because there is apsolutely no way you will get them out otherwise. also, to give it more air, i've improvised a pedestal to lift the back part of the table. this is no necesity, unless you're going to run any more jarring game and don't want to buy the laptop cooling pad thing...

but i got a problem here ever since i installed windows 7 pro 64-bit (build 7600)... the cooling fan just never stops running, supposedly the cpu is getting hotter than usual... have you ever encountered the same problem before? if so, what did you do to stop win 7 from heating up the laptop so much? i am completely clueless...

I do not have any problems with the fan speed in windows 7.

of cause, it will spin up whenever I run games that are cpu or graphic intensive.

you might wanna check your graphic drivers, I suspect that might be the cause.

that is the well known problem with 8600M GT graphic card, it's known as flickering for what I know.

in order to get rid of the flickering, you either disable powermizer or (risky method) flash the graphic card bios to older version.

you'll need a version of nvflash which can be ran on windows and also the older bios. all of these can be found by googling.

remember to backup your bios if you ever managed to find and gonna flash it.

my problem is after installing windows 7 Ultimate i get the c0000la fatal error..

thanks, did this successfully earlier and tried to post back, but youtube didn't let me post for some strange reason. anyway, disabling Powermizer is indeed the way to go. altho, interesting, the flicker still occurs very occasionally, eg. when starting up a new programme. but it's so rare that i can happily live with it. :)

yes, the flickering happened to me too, which is due to PowerMizer, and I managed to resolve it by flashing an older BIOS found on the internet.

the workaround will be to disable powermizer.

When i first update to Win7 i upgraded the driver to the 186.xx and that didnt work well I had the same problems with the screen. Today I download from acer webpage the driver for windows vista and works great!

nope, I did not re-partition the whole drive. basically I just choose the drive to install windows 7 into, which is usually the System drive.

actually, it's not about better or not. it's when you have the proper hardware you would want to go 64-bit especially when you have more than 4GB of memory.

Whats RTM??? I believe Im just test driving Windows 7 RC. On the windows performance index, vista x32 gave me mostly 5.5s, but with Windows 7, everything is significantly higher, Im getting mostly 6.3s. BUT my graphics score has lowered with windows 7 with my lowest subscore - 5.5 (on vista x32 it was 5.9). So why is windows 7 improving on all scores but disappointing on the graphics score???

yea, the RC build of windows 7 gave a lower score for graphics but in the RTM, it gave me a higher score. (from 5.5 to 6.8 on my DESKTOP for example)

anyways, most drivers are available as native in windows 7. i've only installed Launch Manager, the IR, Touchpad drivers and graphic drivers.

forgot to add that the newest windows 7 is build 7057. you can get it easily from torrents.

as for daily use - yes, i do recommend but be noted that windows 7 is in BETA stage and it will still be your decision whether to use it daily.

windows update might work and might not work for build 6500. i dont know really. all i know is build 7000 is officially supported by microsoft and any updates will go to that build.

the FPS is about 20+ with all low. (Render at High)

the version I played on this laptop is 1.0.1.

never tried 1.0.2.
