People keep talking about going to the animals to protect them. While I say we should track down everyone using the black market on animal parts and destroy it once and for all. I am partly and pacifist but the poachers make me want to riddle them down with a machine gun!

@kingkarlone I now donate a little to elephants charities it's crazy the way they are treated. When I was a kid I saw shows where elephants were hunted and didn't think that much about it, but to set traps for elephants that should be outlawed. Poachers setting traps should be put in jail. Also I would prefer gun owners to shoot at targets not elephants.

Ive been to africa, the only thing useable on them is their tusks and its a purely cosmetic thing - the ivory isnt really necessary for anything. and the meat tastes terrible. (i was in africa, it's a common food in many areas)

@airsoftjunkie24 the tusks are important to the elephants for digging for food, defending themselves, social interaction, etc. It would take the elephant's entire lifetime to grow back a tusk. Tranquilizing can be very traumatic, and what are you going to do with the babies and young while you just downed an entire herd of tusked elephants?

Isn't it easier just to NOT take their ivory? As a human, I'm smart enough to come up with fake ivory or entertain myself in other ways, thanks.

Trouble is many of the people who poach live in poverty and find that they can feed their families through poaching.

There are others who profit greatly from this cruel practice.

Help is needed in villages where poverty affected people live so they are able to earn enough from other work without poaching.

As for those at the top, they should be brought to justice.

First experts need to figure out how to do it themselves in the first place, if captivity-assisted reproduction of endangered species was easy, they most likely wouldn't be endangered in the first place.

Now teaching them to farm agriculturally, that's an idea. If these people had resources or education, they wouldn't have to poach to stay alive. If only the majority of Africa wasn't drought-ridden, agriculture might have been a logical solution.

Illegal poaching is intentionall, and what they do is they trap the animals or shoot them and take the items of value, in this case tusks from the elephants, they take furs from tigers and many other endangered species, they take hands and feet from chimps and gorrillas and sell them as ash trays. They just kill them for prophet and nothing else. Quit horrible.

They could use tranquilizers or some other form of "sleeping" drug. Vets use them all the time on large, dangerous animals. But then again, it's a matter of money because I'm sure tranquilizers are not cheap. It is just cruel, atleast if you are going to kill the animal, don't leave the rest of it to rott away.

Hunters hunt within the rules of local fish & game laws continuing an experience that dates back to the time when we were nomadic hunter/gatherers and didn't have the luxury of farms.
