Ferry's been performng in TUX's with bow ties since the early roxy days. Indeed, only he could pull that off amidst his bandmates glam mishmash including Phil Manzanera's K-SCOPE spectacles, Andy Mackays' green puffy spacesuit leotard, Paul Thompson's Tarzan attire, and the 'at the time' very flamboyant Brian Eno in full blue dyed ostrich feather w/sequins costume. Truly as bizzare a mix as you'll ever find. But, the music ages well.
Free energy can change the world! But a few ppl make too many billions from our energy needs to let this technology be known,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,take part in the revolution!
Wow, never seen this video before, it is amazingly good, with an oppressive, predatory atmosphere, representing how some men see and treat women. Makes the Bryan character seem very sleazy, but a very elegant video nevertheless.
@closanow Like they say,"perception is everything". I'm a guy,(an gay at that), and I saw this video as quite the opposite. To me, it appeared( he) was the one being used by the cold and aloof young woman.
This sort of music just isn't made anymore- am I wrong? Music video was still such a young concept and an artist really had to think about it. Bryan/Roxy was just so good at this time (not that they always weren't). I'm really grateful to have come up during this time, to be as young and impressionable as I was. I thought all Englishmen were like Bryan Ferry.
recently i have (for some reason, I dunno...) been reliving my teenage years( only the fun parts...which were FEW) from the 80's and, having been in orchestra and marching band( therefore musically inclined), have been recently on a Roxy Music, Duran Duran, and Thomas Dolby kick! IS THIS WRONG!!! :) No, seriously, this is one of the songs that got me through a LOT of solitary, thinking moments during the time it was popular. Major thanks to whomever found this video and others like it!
The lady in this video is wearing beautiful shoes! So nice to see some pretty shoes rather than the clodstompers/bondage shoes everyone wears in the videos these days.
When I was in college I would play this for the girls I brought back to my room. More times than not, it got them in the mood, lol. They'd say it was great sex music. Lol, It makes me wish I was young again, and in college.
ultra swarve , sophisticated ,cool , slick , the bees knees1 thumbs up for that ferry bloke .. hes the man with the plan! my fave since i was 16 .. im 26 now !
Who was the backing singer? Whenever I listened to this song, I always looked forward to those notes she hit. So high and controlled to the point of being freaky!
At least Wikipedia says so...take from that what you will.
I just went to her website, and even tho the stuff playing she sings lower, it sounds like her. And she mentions doing Avalon in her bio, so I'd say it's pretty likely.
This song, and the entire album, impress me with how much better music was back when Avalon came out. One of my favorite albums, and I listen to it over and over. RM's music was soooo cool, sophisticated and thoughtful, unlike the insubstantial garbage made today that can't hold a candle to what this band was doing 30 years ago or more.
Hasn't cheese changed in 28 years! I'm much more suited to Ward/Ferry than Katy Perry. Kicking myself about how long I worried about being different to most of my 20-30yo peers though.
How come there's always 40 or 50 something folks who don't like the really nice videos like this one? Are those the people who had soggy cornflakes that morning or are chronically constipated?
One of my favorite chapters in Max Brooks World War Z mentions this song, In the novel. It is sung by a Scripps College student "with a voice like an angel" over the schools PA system to inspire the exhausted defenders before the last zombie battle. I always thought it was really fitting.
@MrSp00kster love this osng so much i now sing it as a staple in my first set when i perform, worked out a great harmonica part tro replace sax solo, people tell me i sing this and sound just like bryan, quite a compliement, thanks to those that said it to me
who is the lovely girl in this video ? my searches have been in vain. i always thought she was such an angel since i first saw the vid on MTV, way back in the day. if somebody knows who she is, help me out here. thanx
This was the first song I ever heard played on a CD... 1982 or 1983... my brother's friend in Edmonton had just bought a CD player, spent about $3000 for the thing and I was like dude wtf were you thinking but then he played this song on it and it blew me away... when I could finally afford to buy a CD player of my own about 5 years later this was the first CD I bought... my favorite album ever since.
@DocBrewster ...actually I think I paid $1200 in 1987 for a mediocre stereo system including a CD player, double cassette and turntable, and it was probably about the same quality as a $200 system today!
My friend Simon used to sing this, lost in touch with him and haven't been able to find him ever again. The old heart leaps. when hearing this. Thanks.

Men are no longer comfortable with expressing their feelings and women have stopped being feminine.
