  • If there is life after death, I was wanna be right there.

  • worst haircut of the day

  • 80s hair. someone oughta bring it back!

  • great !!!

  • The guy who handled Bono's mic was fucking awesome at his job.

  • I swear I've seen a different, longer ending to this where Bono comes back on stage. But I can never find it anymore. I'm sure the guy who cut the Live Aid DVD decided to edit it out and for that I'd like to find out where this person lives and burn down his house. Sons of bitches.

  • Bono is 21 years old at this concert, the rest of the band were 20. 21 with that much charisma, simply amazing.

  • @grobby2 Think he was 24

  • @grobby2 Bono & Adam were 25, Edge & Larry were 23.

  • The girl with whom he danced revealed that he actually saved her life at the time. She was being crushed by the throngs of people pushing forwards; Bono saw this, and gestured frantically at the ushers to help her. They did not understand what he was saying, and so he jumped down to help her himself.

  • life changing moment for U2 and a lot of their fans!

  • This is the 1st time I ever saw U2. I've been in love w/them ever since.

  • The only moment in Live Aid that could rival the awesome Queen performance. As someone wrote before, this was the moment when the world got to see that U2 was much more than a cult band. For me, this was also the moment that defined them best: in their best and in their worst, all what they have to offer, or be loved or hated for, is in this performance. A HIGHLIGHT.

  • incredible.. wide awake..would fade away..I love you Bono, I love U2

  • U2 at there best 1984 1985 live Unforgettable Fire Tour . have many recordings of those concerts . croke park milton keynes bowl and madison square gardens from 85 are brilliant .

  • i love U2 but.... Queen were simply the best that day . U2 second best .........

  • And that Mullet is a thing of real beauty.

  • This is my all time favorite U2 performance.

  • @SeniorCharry Umm bono wasn't trying to interact with crowd he saw a woman getting crushed by the people and was telling the security to help her but they weren't getting the right one then he went down and pointed them to her. Even tho. Am not much of a fan of U2 it bono It was pretty badass.

  • I was three years old, playing with action figures in the sand, and a world away THIS was happening. Oh how I wish I would have been old enough to have been there that day.

  • With all the legendary bands at LIVE AID (Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Police, The Who, Etc) A Young Band Named U2 Comes Along And Steals The Show!... Rockets U2 Past All Those Bands Into The Stratisphere Of Perhaps One Of The Best Live Bands Ever!

  • I dread to think how many times i have seen this u2 performance. I borrowed my mates brothers VHS tape of the preformance, and duly wore it out coz i wathed the same 15 mins of the tape over and over

  • What's this - 720 lines off a 240 lines VHS player?

  • Mullet the blue sky.

  • Good job...But Queen stole the whole show that day.

  • beautiful.

  • I am old now but I can remember this like it was yesterday. Beer, dope and chicken wings at Brad's house. No complaints.

  • I cried on this day, beautiful performance, when U2 was U2!!!

  • @kalungarocker U2 is still U2!!!

  • TY for this. I taped the whole concert that day, ya know... on a thing called a VCR. Transferred to a DVD a couple of years ago, quality was horrid !! Glad to have this version !! :-))

  • @pastadicasa Hehe, I taped it on beta!!

  • let it go

  • Favorite performance of the whole day, have the box set, wasn't even born in 85 unfortunately haha Amazing stuff........

  • Not many bands could have carried this off. Highlight of the whole day imo.

  • bono freddie STARS when stars were that , i think there must of been 21 miss clicks or half miss clicks and half retards

  • I wish I could've seen this live... 2 of my top 3 fav artists performed on the same stage: queen and u2! if only MJ was there... that would've been my top 3 right there on one stage

  • Dear horrible bands: This is how you play live.

  • @iamthebench Horrible are you!!!

  • A powerful live performance about heroin addiction from the biggest band in the world. Bono managed to knit lyrics from "Ruby Tuesday", "Walk on the wild side", "Sympathy for the devil" and "Satellite of love" through the performance while Bono danced with a members of the crowd. Bono sporting a mullet, Edge with hair and Adam looking cool takes me back to my childhood. U2 are never boring!

  • I still rememebr that day ... I cried during Bono's performance

  • I remember watching LIve Aid on tv all day to record U2 on my vcr. My tape was so grainy. I've never seen it this clear. Thanks for posting!

  • 20 people hate Africa.

  • 27 years.. looks was yesterday..

  • Hah, that's so very Bono...

"Ok, bring them up he--Screw it, I'll go down there! *Jumps down like 8 feet*"

  • You guys just don't get it! This was a concert to bring humanity together to to support the less fortunate in the world. Bono (U2) solidified this message by extending their play and interacting with the audience. U2 is completely about helping the world and bringing issues to light. I can't imagine creating any negativity from their messages or performances. Please, take a look in the mirror.....and then find a way to get healthy and love yourself so you can love others.

  • ...thank god for this song...

  • You know that the band can't see Bono when he was dancing so they play, they just play without knowing where he was, Edge almost thinks that he brock his neck! They're amazing, that's a band, that's my favorite band!

  • Fabulous to listen to this gig again after a quarter of a century. Larry Mullen Jr is a f'ing hero, in my opinion. Without his commanding measure of the pace of the band at this, the gig that put them in front of the audience of the whole planet, I doubt whether they's have become the greatest act of their era. (some probably won't agree!)

  • Сколько людей там???

  • Nunca olvidare este concierto ,apenas tenia 15 años y no me despegue ni un momento de la pantalla de tv. Nunca he vuelto a haver un evenco tan grande de artistas .Gracias-

  • That my friends, is what legends are made of!

  • @pdim1000 Honestly, I don't know if I've ever seen a better live performance in my life. Ever. I've been looking for 25+ years and I still haven't seem it yet. So, so brilliant.

  • Awesome band ive been hooked on them since 2005 since hearing how to dismantle an atomic bomb!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great clip. Shame the audio is slightly out of sync.

  • what an overrated clown..

  • Comment removed

  • OrpheusHart: it just makes the performance more epic.... The man has participated in many projects/initiatives to help the needed, but I guess it's just plain easy for people to log in on youtube and talk shit about people like Bono without (probably) contributing themselves.

    Great band performance, great band!

  • Is it just me or does Bono look like that Cadet Zed from Police Acadamy 3 ?

  • Good, but nothing in comparison to big country, who would have played that day.

  • i bet he made sweet love to that blond he pulled

  • That was a BLAST !!!

  • so glad they didn't play pride instead of bad!!!! (time cut short)

  • This song is apparently about Andy Rowan, if anyone knows more about this guy please tell me.

  • @HazzaPistheDocsBFF Actually it isn't, although Bono dedicated 'Bad' to Andy at their 360° show in pittsburgh (witch Andy attended) . Andy and Peter Rowen are childhood friends of Bono, Andy also attended Mount Temple school (as did Bono) . Peter (Andy's brother) Rowen is the man who is on the cover of the 'WAR' and 'BOY' album . (as a little boy)

  • @bonavox11 que grande!!!!

  • U2 became a LEGEND on that day.

  • @laboloche I agree, completely!!

  • @laboloche Legends indeed. Immortals, if I may say so. Once, back in the 80s, some critic compared Bono to Foreigner's lead vocalist. Or the other way around. He stated that Mick Jones could sing circles around Bono. Hmmmmm. You couldn't prove it by me. Not now, then, ever. LEGENDs? INDEED!

  • Ok, great song and all but damn Bono is a real knob... -.-

  • @OrpheusHart What does it mean to be a knob? Just curious....

  • @firedog1972 Specifically, I don't like the way he just jumps stage and starts dancing around, hugging the crowd and making a big show of it like the performance was all about him while the rest of the band may have well just been glorified roadies.

If you're referring to the actual word 'Knob' its just one of the varied ways of saying 'douchebag'

  • @OrpheusHart Thanks. I do see your point now. That's very true how he went about that.... it definitely drew attention off of the band & extended their playing of the instruments that much longer. I'm sure the band mates were already extremely tired, then they have to play through Bono's 'me time'. Have a great weekend Orpheus!!!

  • Queen stole the concert as Elton John said, but U2 blow my mind

  • that was the beginning of u2 that started there career i think

  • GOosebumps go away!!!

  • "Ruby Tuesday" is a song by The Rolling Stones. Bono sings lyrics from that song.

  • @rabbitsandcarrots thanks man!!!

  • could someone explain to me what ¨ruby tuesday¨ is

  • Wonderful!

  • why oh why wasn't I alive yet? man I would give anything to have seen that :)

  • great times, never back !!!

  • the edge is bald!!!

  • on the comment that u2 is better than metallic , they are. you can still listen to u2 when your 60. I can't imagine listening to that screaming devil voice sounding guy when iam 60.

  • Indimenticabili! Quel pomeriggio ho pianto. Me lo ricordo ancora........

  • Is Adam Clayton the guy who is playing the bass? He looks different...

  • @PARKER12314 It was. Remember, they were VERY young then. It was over 26 years ago.

  • It was the most affetcing concert in my life

  • Live Aid - Love Aid - the beautiful, BEAUTIFUL '80s.

What I wouldn't give to go back in time to that vibrant, innocent, meaningful decade again!

  • The best i`ve ever seen from U2....Toughtfull

  • I still think Queen stole the show.

  • @lululemon123321 ..totally agree my friend.

  • Queen

  • Мда... Боно, конечно, сумасшедший мужик - прыгнуть в толпу, которая могла его просто разорвать (из самых лучших побуждений) - это сильно.

  • U2 is better than Metallica!

  • BEST " BAD" PERFORMANCE EVE!!! 12 minutes and not over ! damn!!

  • let,it,go,i,won,t,let,be,a,man,hits,me,or,mistreads,meangelique,no,man,i,say,bono,wouldn,t,treat,people,bad

  • That is one big ass mullet

  • yAY u2

  • oh oh satellite of love oh oh <3

  • U2 came of age on that day

  • 2 years later you see bono mature, and be creative in singing a lot more...

  • They were still not at their best at that moment

  • Peace and love.

It´s a new order in this world.

    with Barac Obama....

  • the most solid band on the planet

  • 10:39 I love this moment!!!

  • Just enjoy the esscence of humanity they all showed on that day. From artists to crowd, it was a cool day to be a human

  • @Ozric40 Deep bro this song makes me cry

  • When u2 were real

  • There was a time that, deep within without really knowing it - actually, i believed in Bono. The moment i recognised it was the same time i gave up. But whatever you might think of him, or how much ya like or dislike in their music....read the stories, follow their actions and listen to the people that still love their music.....and that's a whole lot of people......Bono Edge Adam & Larry still find ways to give people hope. And hope is something the world is desperately in need for right now.

  • I want to dance with Bono!

  • why does that creep henry rollins always shit on u2? jealousy?

  • The sound of Edge's guitar - just beautiful!

  • Epic awesome performance...really extraordinairy....

  • One of the best live performances of a song I've ever seen. Mullet withstanding, if this doesn't touch you, you should check your pulse.

  • True fact. The band almost fired Bono after this performance. They were suppose to play Pride (in the name of love) after Bad but Bono's adventure took up all their alloted time and the band thought they missed out on a huge oppertunity

  • oh my God....beautiful..Amazing...Great u2

  • One of the magic moments in music history. Kinda made me a U2 fan ever since. Unbelievable good quality. Thanks for this.

  • Girl at 4:13 put a bra on already!

  • /watch?v=KNwixrmdVbg

i think this speaks volumes as to who stole the show...

u2, imho, overrated... not hating anyone, but still overrated...

  • no one here can really deny that Queen stole the show at Live Aid; it was/is regarded as one of the greatest live performances in rock music....for all the people fighting about it and saying U2 were better, you know deep down that they weren't :)

  • Thanks for posting this awesome unforgettable moment in time in such clearness. i've been watching my video cassette of this for years and my eyes have gone bad!

  • Thanks so much for this pro quality video popmartour!-Aweseome. One of my fav U2 songs

  • Queen were very established on the world scene at this point. U2 were hungry to show what they were all about and from this moment until Joshua Tree (were Bono's head exploded) they were the best band in the world. Look at how serious the fucker is in this clip. Absolute belief in what he was doing. Guys who have been around the block are jaded and just don't have that ruthless belief that they're the centre of the universe. That's why you occasionally get shit like this. Larger than life....

  • why did he drag that fan out of the audience

  • @mesembe FOR THE CRAIC!

  • @cjmastablasta craic?

  • @mesembe Search live aid in wikipedia and you will be surprised

  • @HugoNav9 saved her life by the sound of it

  • @mesembe That's what I read about it, too. It would be cool if she posted something about that moment in her life... super cool, actually. I would love to hear what really happened that day in the crowd.

  • @fred1671 There is a video/interview of the two women.

  • @mesembe I remember that day well and Bono pulling the girls up.

At the time and to this day I felt he was truly giving them something of himself, as if to say "I care."

  • @mesembe She was in danger of death by compressive asphyxia. His band covered while he performed a rescue.

  • U2 best! 30v

  • Thanks for this upload!

  • What band ever wants play for free and not get rich get real people, wake up and smell the coffee as you americanos say

  • hermosa cancion y empezo con satelite del amor..

  • @ppcuevas30 de Lou Reed

  • Bono's tunes rock!

  • U2 at their best.

  • Interesting to see comments on people arguing about who was the best on the day of LiveAid. From what I can remember, it wasn't about that.. it was a day of unity. I have seen U2 loads of times, they are a great live act. I know Bono can rant on all day long and people find him annoying, but I would rather see the rich and wealthy actually give a sh*t than simply sit back and count their millions. He spent a lifetime raising awareness. Fair play to the man, whatever you think of him.. he cares.

  • @inkedgreg exactly. I was 15 years old and watched this being broadcast live on TV, no-one gave a shit about who was the best, it was simply amazing to watch so many incredible performers give their time to help publicise the nightmare situation in Africa.

People need to remember that we didn't have global news or 24/7 media coverage back then, this was how people raised awareness and no-one was thinking who was the best.

  • @inkedgreg thank god someone else gets it. Bono is a great man whether you wana believe it or not, and I love all he does to raise awareness

  • wheres the reverb and delay??

  • Live Aid '85 = Queen and U2

    'Nuff said

  • yes yes good, very good - but Queen blew you lot away!!!!!!

  • @LilChummmmmm I, personally, can't stand Mercury's voice.

  • @Netlocd

    I ,personally, can't stand Bono's voice:)

  • @Kimep5 That's all fine and dandy. But hey, at least Bono doesn't sound like a woman. lmfao

  • @Netlocd how does Freddie sound like a woman? Just because he had such a wide vocal range that Bono can't even come close to...damn you need to know what you're talking about before you put your thoughts on the internet, you're embarrassing yourself :)

  • @corymurawske32 I do know what I am talking about. Freddie absolutely sounded like a woman when I first heard Queen on the radio (a really butch woman).

And have you even heard any of U2's stuff? Bono can reach C#, bro.

Sorry to say, but I still think Freddy Mercury sounds like a woman when he sings. Either a very feminine man, or a very masculine woman. Either way... definitely sounds like a woman.

And... U2 definitely stole the show. Just saying. I -know- they did. ;-)

  • @Netlocd well all I can say is no point arguing with someone who clearly doesn't know too much about music haha nice try and good day

  • @corymurawske32 I actually have a Bachelor of Music... but that's irrelevant. I prefer Bono's voice over Mercury's.

  • @Netlocd I am a very fan of U2 and I do really appreciate their music. However I am able to recognise that Bono is a rock star while Freddy Mercury is a LEGEND.

Apart from this minor aspect, there's an aspect of U2 that truly piss me off: the tuning.

I mean, Mercury's voice is always perfectly in tune, Bono's not. Queen's bass is alway perfectly in tune, U2's not. You can't ever imagine how I hate this, particularly in songs like Ultraviolet (bass out of tune), The Fly (bass out of tune), etc...

  • @volkderfreiheitzwei piss off seriously. we all know that they are all much better musicians than me or the next person. I for one am very musically gifted (not bragging) and I think it adds a unique sound to U2. They aren't going to sound like Queen because they are not Queen, they are U2. If you came here to complain about their playing style, you're not wanted here.

  • @gaulifogg nobody is a perfect singer. And nobody is perfect.

  • @LilChummmmmm don't be funny :)

  • See how the monitor engineer is being cursed by the headset wearing drummer!

  • Thanks for the post, A epic day from an epic band, U2 The greatest and biggest band in the world right now, there recent world tour 360 made them £400 million after expences every gig they did sold out which was over a hundred shows around the world there stage structure was the biggest in the world (a world record) I travelled from Edinburgh to see them in Paris Last September 2010, 96 thousand attended ) They have sold over 250 million albums, with another Album on the way, the facts dont lie

  • Nog steeds de rillingen bij dit nummer, enorm gaaf

  • the majority of homeless people in most developed countries, eventually get an opportunity for some form of life from people who care to see the person behind the despair and not what got them there.many other people around the world never get the chance at any stage to become someone special "a wonderful life" will never grace there paths and its a crying shame when no one gives a damn.the difference is, some need and get guiding hand and some people will never get a chance in life.

  • @Ngun200 true

  • SCROGY yup u r right ... first think for urself and ur peeps ... tht makes us human ..(selfish...guess thts the new defination of humanity )

  • @tarunmedi So it's selfish for me to want to help the people I have to look at while they suffer every day? What the hell is the matter with you?

  • that day made u2

  • the only thing that stomped U2, was the crowds cheer.

  • A Wonderful moment in time, i think Bono was copying what Bruce springsteen had done with his dancing in the dark music video bringing Courtney cox on stage., Unlike the Boss, Bono's move was not staged, I wonder if he done it on Inpulse. ? who knows.

  • The broadcast really felt "live" and improvised, nothing like the polished live events we are used to now: note the way the roadies run on and off stage in full view.
