I saw the comments below this beautiful music and couldn't help but get in a word! The best religion for a man teaches him to love others, not to resent them. As soon as "God" is tainted by man and made to cater to men's prejudices, God may as well be only man. Appreciate and value all life instead of making a doctrine into a God.
To be a Christian - a truly good Christian - is simple. Read and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Emulate his life style. Forget the old testament for it is only history - and poorly written history at that. I am not a Christian, haven't been since I was 18 and reverted to the teachings of my ancestors. One of the reasons I left Christianity and have never regretted it, so hard to find Christians who actually had read and followed the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Sad that there's religious arguments on this thread. Even if I was an atheist I'd still enjoy this music for its own sake. I'd ask my fellow Christians to rise above insults and pray for those who are yet to be saved. I'd also ask atheists with functioning brain cells to ignore people religious or otherwise who are clearly trying to start arguments. Whatever our personal beliefs can't we just listen and appreciate this music?

I'm not trying to be intolerant or say that people don't have the right to believe what they like, but to say that this is just music is... well ignorant in its own right. This is Agnus Dei, a part of Catholic and Episcopal liturgy used in mass. Its not a song, or a composition, its a prayer. This is increasingly obviously if you actually know the words. @SeveringAnthony The Catholic Church does not believe that doing good deeds will get you to heaven. That is where most protestants (or w/e you are) accuse the Roman Church of believing in! Catholics believe that it is by god's GRACE alone that we will see heavenly light. You are getting JUSTIFICATION mixed with SALVATION. Read up on what justification is (it too is important).

If we believe in God's grace and do not act on it then we will be judged for that! However we need both faith and good works to get us into the eternal kingdom of God. @samfenator2 This is true, but keep in mind, those "works" are merely an expression of our salvation through Christ and mean nothing in themselves (in fact the Bible goes as far as to say they are "filthy rags" before the holiness of God). Only an acceptance of Christ's death on the cross as payment for our sins can truly result in salvation of souls. Sola Fide catholic brethren! Good works come in sanctification and are to be done for the glory of God but are NO good for salvation.

@morrink Bring your broken heart to Jesus, pray for the abusers and the abused and He will heal your heart. If we forgive others we will be forgiven, as it says in the Our Father. I am very much in pain because of all the abuse, but we must pray for healing for all and continue on our way. As Pope Benedict has said, it has been a time of purification for the church and Jesus will bring great good our of all the evil that has happened as a result of the abuse. God will always wins out in the end.

The church always has held that justice needs to be served, even though some if it's members have not always done so. The important thing is to separate the church from it's members. The problem comes from it's sinful members and not the church itself. Some people have a vendetta against the church when the church institution itself that's not the problem, it's the people inside.

@BrotherAlphonsusMary I do not disaree. However, many Catholics are Catholic in name only and the more the Church attempts to create unity, the more it appears to lose itself. My Uncle was an old School Jesuit and he didn't much like what he saw going on in the order in the sixties and the seventies.

The fact that some Catholics are in name only is not the church's fault, so I don't know that the church loses itself when it tries to promote unity. Perhaps I am being misunderstood. We should never sacrifice orthodoxy for unity, and so the unity I speak if is only achieved by all Catholics being in union with the Holy Father. Surely this is something we can both agree on.

But, I'd like to see Rome do something about the Catholic educational institutions in the U.S. The removal of the Cross at Georgetown was a disgrace when the President spoke. Notre Dame should not have invited the President to speak. Pelosi took Communion when the pope visited, yet 50 million babies have been aborted. I sometimes wonder if the Church is serious about its own teaching.
@1seticat I think it's important to separate the church, as instituted by Christ, and the people in the church. I know that the church is serious about it's teaching, but perhaps some in the church are not quite as fervent and dedicated as they should. You're right. All that stuff is too bad, but it's not the church's fault per se, but perhaps some people in the church, as you well know, the church is divinely instituted, but also includes a human factor.
@Brother Alphonsus Mary How does one separate Catholics from Mother Church. Catholics can do so through sin but this is reconciled through confession. The Church, especially here in the U.S. needs to rethink its future. I believe this Pope has somewhat "written off" the U.S. Catholic Church as having gone too far and believes that even if smaller with true believers, its would be better off. I certainly don't agree that one can separate the human element from the Church but some go too far.

There is the spotless Bride of Christ, The Church that Jesus founded, Divinely instituted which is and always will be without sin, and then there are it's members on earth, which as we already unfortunately know, sin. We can be forgiven, but we still sin. This is the teaching of the church and so I don;t know how else to put it. There have always been two aspects of the church, the Church Jesus founded, and it's members.
@1seticat So, when the church teachings speak of the Divine instituition that Jesus founded when HE said "The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it" There is certainly no separation of the church when we speak of the human element. There is most certainly a human(The visible head of the Church, The Pope, and it's members, and the Divine institution, the Spotless Bride of Christ. It is not separating the church to say there is a divine and human element.
@Brother Alphonsus Mary I know that John Paul II involved the laity regarding Vatican II and Poland didn't have the problems instituting the changes contained within Vatican II. For much of the rest of the world, V II has been used as an opportunity to destroy the foundation of the Church through liberation theology. I know that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church but Catholics need to stand up for their Church - in practise & prayer. Without Priests, there'll B no Eucharist!
@1seticat Ahh, now I see partially where we are going with this. The problem is not fundamentally with VII, as it is a valid church council, but with how it has been instituted in some places. There is no problem with VII, but in how it has been interpreted. I don't see a problem with VII, but more with catechesis of what the church teaches. At least we both agree that without priests there will be no Eucharist. VII is a beautiful document that, when well applied, has yielded wonderful results.
@Brother Alphonsus Mary I have a picture of my great uncle Monsignor Charles Klauder with Pope Pius XII. I think that it may be that time will tell how beautiful VII was/is. The damage (maybe due to the period of time within its release) has been formidable. i wonder how much of the magisterium of the Church my great Uncle would recognize today? In spite of tremendous social pressure, Pope Paul VI wrote Humane Vitae and saved the Church and countless human lives.

@BrotherAlphonsusMary I don't disagree with UR statement. Maybe VII should have had the collaberation among the laity in the U.S. as JP II did in Poland. Maybe the Jesuits wouldn't be the scrouge on the Church they R& maybe Liberation Theology wouldn't run crazy in Central and South America. Maybe there wouldn't be as many Catholic who think VII makes it OK to B Catholic & support abortion and Gays. it may not matter what's in VII if its openned the doors of destruction in the U.S. RCC.

Catholics believe that it is by god's GRACE alone that we will see heavenly light. You are getting JUSTIFICATION mixed with SALVATION. Read up on what justification is (it too is important).
James 2:24 - We are justified by works, and not faith alone.

If we believe in God's grace and do not act on it then we will be judged for that! However we need both faith and good works to get us into the eternal kingdom of God. Only an acceptance of Christ's death on the cross as payment for our sins can truly result in salvation of souls. Sola Fide catholic brethren! Good works come in sanctification and are to be done for the glory of God but are NO good for salvation.

The church always has held that justice needs to be served, even though some if it's members have not always done so. The important thing is to separate the church from it's members. The problem comes from it's sinful members and not the church itself. Some people have a vendetta against the church when the church institution itself that's not the problem, it's the people inside.

The fact that some Catholics are in name only is not the church's fault, so I don't know that the church loses itself when it tries to promote unity. Perhaps I am being misunderstood. We should never sacrifice orthodoxy for unity, and so the unity I speak if is only achieved by all Catholics being in union with the Holy Father. Surely this is something we can both agree on.

But, I'd like to see Rome do something about the Catholic educational institutions in the U.S. The removal of the Cross at Georgetown was a disgrace when the President spoke. Notre Dame should not have invited the President to speak. Pelosi took Communion when the pope visited, yet 50 million babies have been aborted. I sometimes wonder if the Church is serious about its own teaching.

@1seticat I think it's important to separate the church, as instituted by Christ, and the people in the church. I know that the church is serious about it's teaching, but perhaps some in the church are not quite as fervent and dedicated as they should. You're right. All that stuff is too bad, but it's not the church's fault per se, but perhaps some people in the church, as you well know, the church is divinely instituted, but also includes a human factor.

@Brother Alphonsus Mary How does one separate Catholics from Mother Church. Catholics can do so through sin but this is reconciled through confession. The Church, especially here in the U.S. needs to rethink its future. I believe this Pope has somewhat "written off" the U.S. Catholic Church as having gone too far and believes that even if smaller with true believers, its would be better off. I certainly don't agree that one can separate the human element from the Church but some go too far.

@1seticat Perhaps you are not understanding me, I should have been clearer. There is the spotless Bride of Christ, The Church that Jesus founded, Divinely instituted which is and always will be without sin, and then there are it's members on earth, which as we already unfortunately know, sin. We can be forgiven, but we still sin. This is the teaching of the church and so I don;t know how else to put it. There have always been two aspects of the church, the Church Jesus founded, and it's members.

@1seticat So, when the church teachings speak of the Divine instituition that Jesus founded when HE said "The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it" There is certainly no separation of the church when we speak of the human element. There is most certainly a human(The visible head of the Church, The Pope, and it's members, and the Divine institution, the Spotless Bride of Christ. It is not separating the church to say there is a divine and human element.

@Brother Alphonsus Mary I know that John Paul II involved the laity regarding Vatican II and Poland didn't have the problems instituting the changes contained within Vatican II. For much of the rest of the world, V II has been used as an opportunity to destroy the foundation of the Church through liberation theology. I know that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church but Catholics need to stand up for their Church - in practise & prayer. Without Priests, there'll B no Eucharist!

@1seticat Ahh, now I see partially where we are going with this. The problem is not fundamentally with VII, as it is a valid church council, but with how it has been instituted in some places. There is no problem with VII, but in how it has been interpreted. I don't see a problem with VII, but more with catechesis of what the church teaches. At least we both agree that without priests there will be no Eucharist. VII is a beautiful document that, when well applied, has yielded wonderful results.

@Brother Alphonsus Mary I have a picture of my great uncle Monsignor Charles Klauder with Pope Pius XII. I think that it may be that time will tell how beautiful VII was/is. The damage (maybe due to the period of time within its release) has been formidable. i wonder how much of the magisterium of the Church my great Uncle would recognize today? In spite of tremendous social pressure, Pope Paul VI wrote Humane Vitae and saved the Church and countless human lives.

@1seticat The bottom line is that VII is a valid ecumenical council. You may voice your opinion of it, but that does not change the validity nor the beauty of it.

@BrotherAlphonsusMary I don't disagree with UR statement. Maybe VII should have had the collaberation among the laity in the U.S. as JP II did in Poland. Maybe the Jesuits wouldn't be the scrouge on the Church they R& maybe Liberation Theology wouldn't run crazy in Central and South America. Maybe there wouldn't be as many Catholic who think VII makes it OK to B Catholic & support abortion and Gays. it may not matter what's in VII if its openned the doors of destruction in the U.S. RCC.
