Can anybody refer me to a YouTuber whose relaxed hair was already short to begin with? Its very discouraging to see journeys from people who've always had long hair, or at least shoulder length. When they go natural their hair grows A LOT faster. Dont get me wrong, hair is gorgeous. Just want someone I can relate to and hear if they have same issues i do. Thanks! : ))
I have about 14 inches of thick and dry, 4b hair. I told my self that I couldn't deal w/ it any more and I was strongly considering a relaxer until I started watching all of these inspirational vids like this one here on YouTube. I have decided NOT to get the relaxer anymore, but to embrace my natural hair to the fullest. Thanks for these videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ash2kewl i hear u.i went natural just before the new year. i havent had a perm in five years but my addiction was weave. not creamy crack. private message me, we can discuss banding, shrinkage and cowashes. there is also a great hairstylist on here named felicia. i get awesome style ideas from her,
LOOOOVE your videos!!!!inspired me so much..i decided to go natural ..its been now 6MONTH AND MY HAIR GROWN SOO MUCH...GO CHECK IT OUT AT BEAUTYFASHIONTUBE
You are gorgeous! I'm already a natural (almost 4yrs) but you've really inspired me to cut my hair! I've been so indecisive about it, but after watching this video I'm going to go for it. Thank you so much!
wow, your transformation is beautiful. I'm Korean, and this reminds me of those people in my country who use blue contact lenses and dye their hair yellow when natural. just. looks. better. It's just right on us, regardless of race. My friends really need to learn from you, kudos!
oh and I won't mind going short if I had your bone structure :)
There really doesn't seem to be much of a difference between your relaxed hair, and natural hair in terms of health. Your length, thickness, and health of you hair seems to be consistent in both ways. That's pretty cool.
I've been thinking to go natural for a while now and watching this video has made me confirm this idea. I've went natural once before when I was really young and just like you I wasn't well informed beforehand so, unfortunately it didnt work out. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into and how I am going to fend for myself lol but, you have helped me to bring up the courage to go through with it. So thank you very much and wish me good luck!
How did you hair sometimes have curl and other times didnt? Did you every get braids to protect the new growth > does it even protect the new growth? I sooo afraid to make the big cut ive got mine currently in a mohawk relaxed hair in the middle, natural on the sides any advice?
Mae!! I just wanted to thank you for your example of Natural Hair Journey. I have a daughter that has the same grade of hair as yourself and she is transitioning right now. I'm using your videos as an good example. You are sooo beautiful and my daughter says so too! Happy New Year!!
Hey, I have been trying to go natural. I haven't got a perm in 9 months. I just recently cut 5 inches off it so it's short and kinky and very uneven. Today was gonna be my breaking point to get a perm. But watching your video, was such an inspiration for me to learn how to properly care for my natural hair and see results of growth. Imma try the one year natural hair journey, again. Thank You ! :)
@MarianneHearty Me too.. Ive been using that hair loss treatment at the site HairLoss101. net (remove space) for about 8months now and find that its one of the only solution that trully lowers the number if harir falling out and has helped thicken and lengthen my hair. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting fuller, thicker.. My partner uses it too.:))
I'm proud to say I am NATURAL!! I became natural October 2010, and my hair has grown a lot since then, and I'm in love with my natural hair and would never want to change it!
I am in absolute love with your hair! I myself has just joined the natural hair community late October of 2011, and would love to know if u had any tips for startes. =)
@MsArdenDante so do you think I should give my locks some more time? Or should I cut it and grow my hair natural? No matter what I believe natural hair is beautiful and there are people who have succumbed to the idea that only permed hair will get you to where you want or need to be. And that sort of thinking is wrong to me. This is our hair and I actually believe natural hair is becoming more of the style you know?
So, you know how the job market is. The job market is quite judgmental about the hair you "should have." Many employers think that natural hair or dreadlocks are "unkempt", and that you won't look as professional with natural hair. And this of course, upsets me. I want to cut off my locks and go natural. I love natural hair and I think it's so beautiful. But will it lower my chances of getting a good professional job if I wear my hair natural? I would love answers.
@heart2heartXD Keep your hair! Who are they to tell you that you can't wear your hair in it's natural state? When I had my internship in an office, there were three other ladies who had worked there for years woith natural hair both long and short. In my opinion, as long as it's nothing extreme like a Rihanna red or spiked Mohawk, what can they say?
@heart2heartXD noooo! don't cut your locks. There are so many styles out there that look quite professional. Check out bronzegoddess01 and kokofemme's channels...two of my favorites on YT. Locks are beautiful....there's nothing 'dread'ful about them : )
This is why I want to go natural. So many styes you can do with natural hair, not much you can do with straight hair! Plus the healthy side benefit as well! Also because I hate my relaxed hair, I hate it soo much :-(
Mae, your hair is beautiful! You are so inspiring and I am thrilled I found your channel. I've been transitioning for 8 months and I'm SO afraid to big chop although I want to. I'm tired of dealing with 2 textures, but I am afraid of short hair on me....How did you find the confidence to just chop it all off? I am such a chicken! lol
My goodness the short hair wins. You went from average looking to superstar in July. I hope this video inspires more women to leave that damn weave alone.
omg, you just inspire me. My hair was as long as you and i gradually chop it off my self. I have very good undergrowth right now and i am doing d finally chop off so i can start with mini afro...i wish your hair is on my head. can you pls explain how you get the curls in? thats what i want in my afro...thanks
@nijahmeid having healthy hair is a big deal. No matter if it s relaxed or natural. I feel like my natural hair is way more healthier and easier to deal with in some ways than my relaxed hair.
I just did my big chop Saturday the 19th of November 2011....all I did was cut my hair and I feel so different so empowered....I'm still shocked everytime I look in the mirror lol
you are beautifully powerful with your natural hair. I have mine natural and beautiful and taking every tip of styles that I can get, and the comments in this place, PR that everyone wants to go relaxing their hair it does not matter to me. Today one co worker asked me if I was still working in the institution, I bet why she asked me that, Now I am happy that lot of the students are leaving their great curly mane and they are outnumbering the relax hair ones. go for it!!!!
Lovely videos you have. Please I just went natural and I need guidance on how I can manage my hair as it is short. The videos am seeing of people with shirt natural hair displays their hair as being curly. I don't know if their hair is naturally like that or they used products. Mine is not like that. It's just strong natural(am from Nigeria). I really need info. Thank you.
Hi everyone I have a natural magazine coming out if you will like to feature in my magazine that will be all over the world become subscribe to my channel and put in a request i will only have so many openings....My page is not complete...but subscribe anyway...The first issue is free...No Charge...If you have a natural product or anything you would like to feature...ShunSleek...
@Sugarypop13 really? Damn I thought it was the point when I just stop relaxing even when it's still in my head. Ugh. Ok I guess in January when I cut it, I'll start my natural hair countdown. Thnx hun :-)
I have a question, I'm going natural by transitioning and I wanted to know even with the relaxer in your hair are you still natural even if you aren't perming it or do you start your "natural countdown" when the relaxer is gone?
Sooo cute and I'm jelous. I am only 13 years old and I am transitioning to natural hair and my mom and I can't take care if the two textures anymore bug I want to cut it off and she gets mad when I say that and I dnt know what to do cause I just want to start over and let her know that I can do this in my own!!
this is such an inspiration to me, I have 4b relaxed mid back length hair, and I m only two months natural but this has really made me feel less uneasy about doing the big chop, I think I might give it a few more mths to kinda grow it out a lil more. btw your hair is gorgeous!!
i love all your videos. OMG!! you are so inspiring, i already had my chop and i'm 9months in to my natural hair. i hope looks as amazing and health as yours
This is one of the best videos i have ever seen, seeing all those styles really inspire me. I mostly wear my hair with no real styles to it, just kinky curly custard and maybe a headband and that only works in my hair because i have a color in. But since this video i'm gonna try to reserve some time every month to a new hair style...I feel like going natural is not the end but the begining thanks a mil :)!
hey how did you get to meet the miss jessies sisters and all of those other people i want to meet them, i want to meet the other people you met too! should i bc before i get tto meet them lol
Hey Jamgirl2341. Did u do your BIG CHOP? Iv'e had mine for 2 months now. It's easy. I'm going wig shopping this weekend. These will be for my hair growth journey.
@ktstudevent hi and yes tomorrow will make a month since i bc. i do have my wig too lol but sometimes i wear my hair. and its not that bad so far i just want my hair to grow now! lol
I love your hair!!! I watch your videos when I have "one of those hair days". And I become very motivated. I have a long way to go before I am fully natural. But, I am excited about the journey. Oh and your eyebrows look great.
you are truly amazing actually cut all my hair off ill say dec. 2010 or jan. 2011 either way im waiting for my hair to grow long ...i always wanted long hair and never could get it back...so i decided to start the growth all over...were you using any products to get your hair that long? any tips? looking at your video really gave me hope on my hair thanks!
This is beautiful mae! I love how you transitioned and you look beautiful with short hair as well as long hair ,... I did my BC 2 1/2 months ago and I'm loving my hair! I actually have my own channel and if anyone wants to follow me on my journey they can just click on me and check it out !! Thanks
i just got my hair cut to go fully natural again and since then i seriously felt like the ugliest girl in the whole world especially how im in high school and children are really cruel so i was kinda scared i guess but now that i watched your video i know now that my hair can grow i just have to be patient. its gonna be a long time until i hit that one year mark but thank you so much for the encouragement and your hair i beautiful.
@JerkOrWhat even though you werent talking to me, i just have to say something. kids can be very cruel sometimes especially when they dont know the whole situation about something. just keep your eye on the prize and your one year mark will be here before you know it!! also keep this in mind, people are going to talk about you no matter if you have long hair or short hair, red hair or brown hair, relaxed hair or natural hair. you just have to keep doing and being you..
@88948895611499 Thankyou so much. You dont understand how much that means to me. i dont know how im gonna do it but ill try to start forgetting what people have to say and just being myself no matter what :)
@JerkOrWhat yea gurl, just forget those people!! hahaha...do what i do, whenever someone tries to be funny and insult me, i just say thank you. ;) im short, 4'11, when i was in school, people would clown me all the time about my height. anyway, people would say, "youre so short." i would say, " i know and thank you for the compliment!" then i would walk away leaving them with egg on their face...but having said that, u are going to be just fine...
@JerkOrWhat Wow you're so strong and courageous for making this transition in high school. At you're age I
didn't have that same courage so I applaud you on being a leader. When I did my BC I would think about my one year anniversary too and how far away it was. For me this was torture and I think because I was always in the mirror and thinking about it until I said I would just stop pondering on it and just embraced the journey of being free from chemicals. You're not ugly! Cheers!
@pennyz2cute Thankyou so Much. an i must say. this natural look is growing on me and i really like it alot now. schools opening in a week so i guess now its time to test my courage :)
@JerkOrWhat If I may suggest to you... arrive to school with your head held up high and rock it! It's fresh and it's you. Also, there's another young girl on YT who began her journey as a natural going to school and she talks about her first day at school as a natural and the reactions. It was interesting to watch and inspiring. Good luck. Cheers!
girls, don't give up!! everytime ur tempted to slap in a relaxer, think about how your hair will look in 3-4 years time. the key is to make the transitional period as easy as possible. things like hair gel and clip- in hair extensions saved my life. i've ben transitioning for a year and a half now and i just chopped off my relaxed endslast night and my hair is already at shoulder length. My relaxed hair looked great at first but after a few years it looked like crap. natural all the way, ladies!
I'm going to try and i'm so scared. i've been hiding behind extensions for the past ten years and in 25. so this is gonna be something! thanks for motivating women out there. Some people cant imagine how hard it can be just being yourself, especially if it contrasts what the overal idea of whats considered beautiful. Thanks!
Not even going to lie.. I have been a bit discouraged with my natural hair and it not growing. I was about two steps away from slapping a relaxer in it and going back.. but I decided to fight it out. I have only been natural for over 3 months so I'm going through the ugly stage. Thanks for your videos!! You saved me lol
i really enjoy your videos and your positive motivation. A few co workers went natural and I have been wanting to for some time now. Barb showed me your videos and now Im ready to go for it. Wish me luck!! lol Ms LOLO
im really thinking about doing this.... i'm kind of young but even one of my good friends did this when we were in first grade.... but anyways, question: how often did you wash your hair after the big chop was recent?
Your video is so inspirational ! I'm just beginning my journey and I'm afraid to do the big chop! If you could offer me any advice I would be grateful. And my I add you are more beautiful with your natural hair than the perm hair. I always thought our natural hair bought out our natural beauty! PS. I only have about a half of and inch of new growth.
hi nikkimae, I have been watchin ur vids for a while now an I think wat u do is great. I have a big problem an I need ur help. I completely have no edges, they r bald an I am only 19. it makes me cry sometimes an ppl r always askin about my temple hair. I have finished with relaxers an have decided 2 go natural but my edges jus make me sick. I dont even go out dat much becuz of my edges, an wen I do I always try 2 cover dem. I NEED HELP PLZZZZ.
I love your videos! I'm in the throws of letting my hair grow after years of keeping it having a short cropped fro. I'm been in need of getting suggestions on produces and hair styles. Thanks and keep it going.
@Brittney9393 have you seen sera2544 or kimmaytube or lonhairdontcare2011 all black woman with below waist length natural hair on youtube....... mixed has nothing to do with it
@anewmeePassion i was referring to how fast her hair grew, not how long it got, idk im very impatient even though i cut all of my hair off last week i just never thought hair like mind would ever grow that fast ... maybe your right though its probably that shes taking good care of it
did you ever cover your hair up or did you just leave it out natural the whole time?! i just did the big chop 2 days ago and its about as short or a LIL shorter than yours was in this video after you did the big chop and ijust covered it up with a weave. do you think i should just let it stay out or it will be ok if i cover it?
can someone help me with this : what does "stimulates thinning hair" mean? and is it a good or bad thing?

I have a question, I'm going natural by transitioning and I wanted to know even with the relaxer in your hair are you still natural even if you aren't perming it or do you start your "natural countdown" when the relaxer is gone?
dominsmith 4 months ago
@dominsmith no, mam'.....ur 100 percent natural wen da relaxer is gone completely. :) lol

this is such an inspiration to me, I have 4b relaxed mid back length hair, and I m only two months natural but this has really made me feel less uneasy about doing the big chop, I think I might give it a few more mths to kinda grow it out a lil more. btw your hair is gorgeous!!

do you have a style tutorial for your hair at 6:46 ?! it is SO gorgeous!!!
9ducky5 5 months ago
This is one of the best videos i have ever seen, seeing all those styles really inspire me. I mostly wear my hair with no real styles to it, just kinky curly custard and maybe a headband and that only works in my hair because i have a color in. But since this video i'm gonna try to reserve some time every month to a new hair style...I feel like going natural is not the end but the begining thanks a mil :)!

i just got my hair cut to go fully natural again and since then i seriously felt like the ugliest girl in the whole world especially how im in high school and children are really cruel so i was kinda scared i guess but now that i watched your video i know now that my hair can grow i just have to be patient. its gonna be a long time until i hit that one year mark but thank you so much for the encouragement and your hair i beautiful.

@JerkOrWhat Wow good luck i'm in high school as well but i didn't bc(my friend did though) I transtioned for a year and a half. Wish you the best. :)
anewmeePassion 6 months ago

JerkOrWhat 6 months ago
@JerkOrWhat yea gurl, just forget those people!! hahaha...do what i do, whenever someone tries to be funny and insult me, i just say thank you. ;) im short, 4'11, when i was in school, people would clown me all the time about my height. anyway, people would say, "youre so short." i would say, " i know and thank you for the compliment!" then i would walk away leaving them with egg on their face...but having said that, u are going to be just fine...
88948895611499 6 months ago
@JerkOrWhat Wow you're so strong and courageous for making this transition in high school. At you're age I
didn't have that same courage so I applaud you on being a leader. When I did my BC I would think about my one year anniversary too and how far away it was. For me this was torture and I think because I was always in the mirror and thinking about it until I said I would just stop pondering on it and just embraced the journey of being free from chemicals. You're not ugly! Cheers!

@pennyz2cute Thankyou so Much. an i must say. this natural look is growing on me and i really like it alot now. schools opening in a week so i guess now its time to test my courage :)
wish me luck
JerkOrWhat 6 months ago
@JerkOrWhat If I may suggest to you... arrive to school with your head held up high and rock it! It's fresh and it's you. Also, there's another young girl on YT who began her journey as a natural going to school and she talks about her first day at school as a natural and the reactions. It was interesting to watch and inspiring. Good luck. Cheers!

lilmama5723 6 months ago
girls, don't give up!! everytime ur tempted to slap in a relaxer, think about how your hair will look in 3-4 years time. the key is to make the transitional period as easy as possible. things like hair gel and clip- in hair extensions saved my life. i've ben transitioning for a year and a half now and i just chopped off my relaxed endslast night and my hair is already at shoulder length. My relaxed hair looked great at first but after a few years it looked like crap. natural all the way, ladies!
nikil876 6 months ago

You saved me lol

im really thinking about doing this.... i'm kind of young but even one of my good friends did this when we were in first grade.... but anyways, question: how often did you wash your hair after the big chop was recent?
orangeluv022 7 months ago
Your video is so inspirational ! I'm just beginning my journey and I'm afraid to do the big chop! If you could offer me any advice I would be grateful. And my I add you are more beautiful with your natural hair than the perm hair. I always thought our natural hair bought out our natural beauty! PS. I only have about a half of and inch of new growth.

I see these damn things everytime I go to Sally's. And everytime my mum tells me they wouldn't work on our hair.
Guess who I just proved wrong? Thanks so much for this, I want to try these out rather using perm rods to transition out.

did you ever cover your hair up or did you just leave it out natural the whole time?! i just did the big chop 2 days ago and its about as short or a LIL shorter than yours was in this video after you did the big chop and ijust covered it up with a weave. do you think i should just let it stay out or it will be ok if i cover it?
