  • wow emotional makes you take a good breath.

  • Our governments had to send those innocent souls for corporate gain and greed. Bring them home safe, rather than fighting and dieing for no cause.

  • @bambarus

Iraq was nothing more than a mistake but in afghanistan the Taliban had banned education for children, killed women who stood up for themselves and kept all females locked up and were basically sex slaves only to be sold at early ages for arranges marriages. so in my opinion i believe we should help the afghan government fight these evil bastards but then ppl will say it's none of our business. but as a soldier Its my job to sacrafice my life for them just so they can have a future

  • I've said it before. This track will bring a person to their knees when they hear it for the first time.

  • Wow! This is a beautiful moment, thanks guys from aU.S. staff Sgt. medic

  • 4:30 = win

  • Thank you for this video. The music is wonderful. The images inspiring yet simple. I have had nearly 4 months of writer's block on my book about two very different soldiers from two different units with no ending yet in sight. NowI have a way to make my Scottish character more realistic. The American soldier character is the more personal experience that I know. Thank you, guys----great job and hang in there.

  • One of the best pieces of bagpipe music i have ever heard. You's guys are making history, not only through your music, but through your bravery in making this world a better and safer place for all of us. God bless yous all.

  • everybody that i know loves this song. even if they don't necessarily like/enjoy bagpipe music once they hear this song they say it's not only uplifting but very motivating. it's the type of song that makes u get up off ur butt, makes u proud of the men/women who keep our countries safe, makes u not take ur freedom 4 granted. it's also the type of song that makes u want 2 get up, dance & enjoy life as it is. Thanks 2 ALL of our soldiers no matter what country they are in, past or present.

  • @Hotstuff5743 And christ I love you Canuks, you're like anti-Scots. So chilled-out and relaxed :]

It makes a nice change, frankly.

  • @Probablyacowtbh no it's just up here in Canada we're more accepting of things, we learn to accept & embrace change even if we don't like it. We're natural born leaders & unlike some countries we don't put up with any b/s or any bullying. Not to mention when we start a job we don't quit when the going gets tough. we see it through till the end no matter what or how long that job takes.

  • this is one of the best peices i heard in a long long time.

  • Beautiful, soul-stirring piece of music.

  • absolute master piece

    heads off man

  • Quite literally, one of the very best videos ever made on Youtube.

  • If I ever hear some prissy celebrity talk about how hard their life is in the music business, I think I'll send them this video. So when they're in their studio with A/C and espresso or cappuccino, they can see how good the really have it :)

I mean, recording in a tent in Iraq? They have more huevos than I could imagine.

  • A very inspirational song. The royal dragoon scots have done a good job in the making of this song

  • People hate America, people also hate the UK for liking America, people wish they had the history and opportunites America and the united kingdom has! God bless the soldiers and the allies forces of the uk and the American troops!

  • @TqFinax don't know where you got the idea of opportunities in the UK! There aint!!! lol!! Thats why so many people are leaving to go to Australia! Even I'm thinking about it!

  • This is one of my absolute favourites. I could watch an listen a thousand times and wouldn't get tired of it.

God bless those men and their loved ones.

  • Without a doubt this is one of the most powerful music tracks ever!

  • The name of the music is???

  • Love this tune and love bagpipes awesome mix!

  • @ dernosferatu0 so i take it then ur insulting all the military bands, all the ppl who march in parades, all the ppl who love the sound of bag pipes and all the ppl in the world who have funerals with 1 or two pipers at them???? guess that means ur also insulting the men and women around the world buried with full military honer as well as the men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty be it military or municipal medical, fire and police services.

  • @dernosferatu0 - takes one to know one! Hope you are happy with your way of life!

  • This video always brings tears to my eyes but not in a bad way in a good way. makes me dam proud to be a nephew of a retired Canadian Army Reserve Solider as well as Proud 2 be Canadian. It also makes me proud of not only the Canadian, the American or the British Troops but it makes me proud of all the Troops who make up the coalition fighting to help a war torn country be a normal country someday without war. God Bless u guys and can't wait till ur ALL home & THANK U for keeping my country safe

  • Well done

  • We don't fight for what is right, we fight for what we are told.

    That is a robot.

  • Im Scottish and moved to Australia a While back and i pipe for my squadron at parades. the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are a true inspiration of what we all can achieve if we put our minds to it, like mentioned before not even basra could stop them making this music.

you live up to your motto boys, "Second to None"

    Good work and return safe

  • this video just goes to show the hard work these guys did to bring us great music. not to mention they didn't let a war stop them from making one of the most loved songs of 2009. i may live in canada but i saw they thanks us for making them #1 for album of the year when it's us that should be thanking them for not only keeping our counties safe but for standing up and fighting for our freedom. thanks guys and hope u all come home safely once the job is done. thanks 2 ALL our troops.....

  • Ross Munro, u wont remember me, was in the reg a few years bck now, wen we were doing northern ireland trainin in Lydd, n on cambrai day wen rtr tried invading us. i was the 1 by ur side. take it easy mate and well done.

  • I don't know what's happened to your music, I've been a fan of the Royal Marines Band for many years but there's somethingnew in your music that reaches the heart. Being recently unemployed I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself but realising what you guys and gal's do puts everything in perspective for me. I'm not religious but I pray that whoever or whatever is out there looks after you all. My sincere compliments and thanks to each and every one of you.

  • Awesome job on the video. This song touches me like no other... very powerful & moving. May you all come home safe & soon. Thanks for posting the video for us to enjoy. Ris

  • If you are going to say something "strong" by music for many military folks you say it with bagpipes.

  • Wow.men and women like these in the UK military really put the meaning of Great in Great Britain.

  • @heywoodejerblowme

    I Agree 100%, True Heros.

  • Great video!!

  • Not only is this song awesome but so is the video. My friends didn't understand y the other day i kept playing the song over and over again a few times till they themselves herd the song. Their first response was like wow that's one of the best songs i've herd in years.

  • With these new recordings the Scots DGs are moving into what could be called New Age pipe music. Those seeking a more traditional sound may not find this to be their cup of tea. As for myself I miss the older recordings when the regiment use to have a regimental band. It would be nice if the pipes could combine with the Heavy Cavalry Band and make a CD with a bit more of the traditional sound of band and pipes.

  • The poor boys out there fighting - fighting WHO? We are fighting ourselves. Loved the bagpipes yet feel so sorry for the boys . I wonder how they ended up in the war or any war at all.

  • what?

  • Wow, what can I say? This is a simply inspirational piece of music and video from an album I wasn't actually aware existed. I absolutely loved the first Spirit of the Glen, and most certainly will be getting this second album for Christmas. Sensational.

  • That's some motivating shit right there, can I get an OORAH!

  • I hate war no matter who is fighting whom. This is not a political statement. I am writing this in regard to the music and video only. I discovered this by accident. It is the most haunting piece of music I've ever heard. It sends a shiver down my spine each time I hear it. The bagpipes have an ability to stop me in my tracks; this track floored me. The image of what soldiers face during war, combined with this music leaves an inprint on my mind.

  • I must say I agree with you & you said it much better than I could.

  • This is absolutely wonderful, both, video and sound.

  • hope you all come back safe and sound girls and boys. much of our scociety doesnt agree with the reason you are away from your loved ones ! All the true Brits are RIGHT behind you!!!! good luck and god speed!! come back home soon and protect OUR BORDERS PLEASE from foreign invaders..<3

  • This is a powerful and beautiful piece of music. It's amazing that they can stir such emotion without lyrics. I send my love to the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, from a proud Soldiers' Angel in the US

  • @jodynh The most powerful forms of music do not require lyrics. Only the intelligence of the listener is required for full effect.

  • And ahhh, there's a harsh beauty to the pipes. It'll forever make me grin when I hear it.

  • the bagpipes are stereo typed to be annoying but they rock in the right hands

  • fine soldiers doing a tough job.

  • God Bless each and every one of you, keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers, may His Angels watch over you all, and keep you safe. God Bless all our Troops, whoever you are, and wherever you are from 'THANK YOU' for ensuring we can all remain living in the Freedom we can all take for granted.

  • I don't think you should be putting the Declaration of Arbroath in the same sentence as the Taliban. One is a declaration of freedom from oppression, the Taliban on the other hand are an oppressive group of women haters.

They are monsters mate, and no one deserves to be left to that lot. Thing is though that the ordinary Afghans themselves have to stand up and be counted, because if they don'y then they're not worthy of the wests help, then God help their women folk.

  • The Taliban are a group of extremists who initially had support from the Pakistani's when Afghanistan was in turmoil. Their brand of Islam has women as possessions. If a woman under the Taliban tried to lead a different lifestyle from that dictated from these headcases she was murdered. It wasn't that long ago two young women had acid thrown in their faces for daring to go to school. I agree though that it should be a Scottish government decision as to where Scots soldiers are sent.

  • As a Scotsman and a British soldier I am proud to have fought for my country, however this is a celebration of fine Scottish music - let's not turn this into a political debate... Many Scotsmen have fought and died all over the world for Britain (as have many former Commonwealth countries) and England has also suffered. Have you ever served? Probably not so you will never understand why we do what we do - without the politics interfering. Now back to the music.

  • Excellent reply billyoniongravy

As for the declaration of Arbroath I spent five years there.

    Superb fish suppers and smokies.

    Take care all

    Now back to the music

  • An old marine eh, my old grandad was a marine in WW1. I hope when Scotland becomes fully independent we retain a marine element in our forces, great tradition.

  • No problem there PtbaScot

My Wife is also from Arbroath

    Spean Bridge says it all

Anyway back to the Music..I love it

  • Good on you billy, so you were in action, hope you came back okay. I have to say this Billy that everything comes down to politics. You proved that yourself with your post.

I found exilejacobite1's comment on the Taliban had to be answered, I think he is misguided, but his point on Scotland having the decision making powers of a sovereign state, I have to agree with him. You've shown us your political leanings, that's your right. So let's enjoy the music;)

  • Well written sir..........

  • :O)

'The Bruce' was probably more of an opportunistic Norman noble who actually spent much of his early campaigns on the run from many of the Scots. He's still a cool character though. As a child, I used to play in his grandson's (Robert II) castle in Dundonald.

  • what the hell are you talking about? they attacked US! the problem with the UK isnt union, its biggots in the union who think were all like you.

the taliban, the ones that make sexist laws that ban women from going outside!are oppresing them, Scottish soldiers are fighting them because America forced us into it, and we fight on because they bombed our home soil.

    for the 2nd part:-

protect it from what? postal stikes and the ENP? as for independence, remember when SNP tried that crap?

If this was row was in the street,I would take you to the next pub and buy you both a bev-vie

  • You Sir, are a wank! Take your opions and poke them. If you are so interested in the wellbeing of Scotland and it's soldiers then you would support them instead of rubbishing them. You are no Scotsman worth speaking of and we are not interested in your bigotry. I'm glad you're an EXILEDJACOBITE.

  • Well said Yhoothoob, a complete waste of space and a total disgrace to Scotland and her people.

  • Soft focus propaganda. We should be ashamed to have our soldiers serving under that filthy union flag and occupying Iraq instead of glorifying it. Who posted this crap?

  • exiled, what a wanker you are. Try saying your shite to the lads that are serving over there. You should be exiled from Scotland you useless bastard. Better still, join the rest of your scum jacobites, under the peat of Culloden moor, where you belong. Rule Britannia !!!

  • Another foul-mouthed, inarticulate unionist who is incapable of rational debate. I can´t believe any Scot would refer to the Jacobites as "scum". I also bet you´ve never been near gunfire in your life despite your phony concern for the "lads serving over there". Where are you "serving"?

  • So when you said "Who posted this crap?" you were being articulate? Right then.

Why don't you go and play in traffic? No really, do it.

  • I served 12 years with the British Army. Have probably seen more of life than you ever will. The jacobites were easily led by that false wee bastard that cme over here and couldn't speak a word of english. Then had the cheek to flee the battlefield before the battle was over. You are a disgrace to Scotland, why don't you go to Afghan and fight for something you believe in you worthless piece of crap. Go out in the streets and say in public what you think of our troops.

  • If you read Bonnie Prince Charlie by Frank McLynn you´ll learn: a) that Prince Charlie was a) born legitimate; b) tall above the common stature; c) spoke English, French and Italian fluently; and d) reluctantly led from Culloden by his advisers. I admit he made lots of mistakes but he had courage and treated prisoners humanely, unlike the Hanoverians you support. I find it difficult to believe that a Scotsman could insult the Jacobites heroes who died for Scotland.

  • Don't believe all you read. He never spoke English, he did desert his men without even a glance back. He turned families against families. He couldn't care less about Scotlands people, only his wealth. Don't you preach to me about insulting our troops, something which you have no problem in doing on this channel. Even the Jacobites realised what he was it is about time you did. Scotland will be a part of Britain for the forseeable future, the way the majority want it, so get over it.

  • I think I´ll take the word of McLynn who is a professor at Strathclyde University or writer David R. Ross who in his book

On the Trail of Bonnie Prince Charlie says he spoke English, French, Italian and Latin by the age of six than that of a foul-mouthed ranter who spits on the graves of Scots patriots. Let´s see how the vote goes in the independence referendum that´s if your unionist crawlers at Holyrood allow the Scottish people to decide for themselves.

  • I think we'll decide the way we did the last time. Bring on the vote and then pathetic romantics like you can be told to go elsewhere. Believe what you like in books, there are hundreds contradicting one another. Why not take the word that has been passed down through the years? Scots patriots? Never. Stupid easily led people who did not have a clue what the Stuart name was all about. Thank god for the decent people in Scotland that fought for Britain and quashed them all.

  • When you were in the army did you do psychological/psychiatric tests? I ask this quite seriously, not to ridicule you but because I´m a psychiatrist and you show some the symptoms of blind rage and bile that I have noticed in a certain kind of patient in more than 20 years of practice. I suggest you calm down and seek medical advice.
