This movie substituted shock value for a plot. Yay it rains and all the animal people straighten up for a moment of retarded joy. Also being blind makes you retarded moreso for not being able to dress or clean yourself so you wander around naked. Blind people should be furious with this dumb shit. Julianne Moore's character was the cause of so much of the suffering with her inaction. DUMB!

I know that when the conveniences are taken from us we fall like bricks and shatter. Humanity has its ugliness. Now for the exchange of women getting raped for food. Its not the rape but the lack of fight in the men that pisses me off like you cannot ever imagine. Fight to the last drop of blood leaves my vain before I would let some skinny punk do what they did. That justified War. Most wars are wrong based on money, power and greed. That scene would be the best case scenario for war.

For some, it is hard to appreciate the views coming from Meirelles, or understand them for that matter. Blindness shows the true depictions of what would/ could actually happen in that situation. From the rape scenes within the confinement to the power over food, Meirelles was not afraid to show us reality. Most movies these days are full of fantasized worlds, while Blindness is more straight-forward and concrete.

The book is trully amazing. It provides a thrilling description of human nature at its worst and im sure this film is great too. Idiots (people who don't like the film or book) wouldn't understand because Metaphors are too difficult of a concept for them to grasp.

I didnt know it was based off of a book. That would explain why the movie was so bad. Books made into movies are typically terrible anyway. Not all, just some. but this was exceptionally bad. It was so slow moving and it was just a major letdown. It had such great potential, cuz the concept is pretty interesting. I think they should make it again. This shouldve been an awesome movie. I dont know what happened....

Personally, I like the idea of global epidemics. I always think they make great stories IF the execution is good. Ive seen movies where the whole world is facing extinction, I just love those kinds of plots. Its so interesting to me. But people fuck them up with back storylines. And omg, dont even talk about the fog. That movie was dumb as SHIT!!! It was soooo bad and stupid. It sucked foreal. And ya I guess blindness was hard to pull off. It was a pretty bad movie. oh well.

Yeah I agree, I like pandemic/apocalyptic movies too...but sometimes the idea of some movies just seems a little funny...but true, if the movie was done a certain way, it could be very good..

Keanu Reeve's acting was HORRIBLE in "The day the earth stood still" I don't know why, he's usually not too bad, I just think he didn't know how to play the role properly.

actually the movie was approved of by the writer himself, jose saramago, for staying true to the point he was trying to make in the book. I happen to strongly agree with him. the movie was just as moving and raw as the book itself. The problem is not the movie, or even the book, but the audience.

I dont think the audience can make a movie bad or good. The audience can only judge the movie. Most movies that were first books are letdowns to me. As a writer, I just think this was bad storytelling, anti-climactic, and disappointing. This movie was missing the wow factor that I just knew it was going to have. Thats prob becuz more interesting parts in the book were left out of the movie for times sake. moving, raw? I just have to disagree with that.

I'm saying that most of the audience isn't used to films such as these and instead of keeping an open mind they bitch and moan because it isn't "cool" enough. I'm a writer as well and I do agree movie adaptations are terrible most of the time but this time is different. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. obviously the book was better but the movie stayed true to the book better then any adaptation I've seen thus far.

Well I havnt read the book so I cant judge how true it stayed to the book. But if this did follow the book as close as you say it did... then its the books fault this movie was so bad. Just becuz it is a good adaptation of a book, doesnt make it a good movie. Either way, I think I am going to have to read this book for myself, becuz I just have a feeling its going to be amillion times better then the movie.

This film is not about action, it has a deeper goal than other science-fiction films. If you notice, it reveals a clear and original view on WHAT would happen IF suddenly the world got blind and how our concept of civilization fails towards it. I think you should watch it carefully and not only look at the visual and special effects, for it was written by a great writter and I advise you to read the book; he discribes it perfectly. Don't mind my bad english.
