I wish I could go back to this Oscar telecast. Personally. I had just turned 20 and it was the new Millenium and I had the whole decade ahead of me. 11 years later and I'm still struggling and no better off than I was before. But back then I thought I'd be.

What the fuck?! Right when Hilary Swank gives thanks to Brandon and that his story will never be forgotten, there is barely an applause! What's wrong wih the audience? Either most of them don't like Hilary or they don't like Brandon. My guess is that they don't appreciate hearing about transgender stories and they should. Hilary Swank's performance in this movie was absolutely outstanding. I cannot imagine anyone able to portray Brandon as well as she did. Amazing actress, amazing film, amazing boy, it's just such a terrible shame that ignorance, prejudice and hate caused his life to be taken from him abruptly, and in such a brutal way.
RIP Brandon, you're an inspiration to everyone to stay true to who they are.

i just saw Boys Don't Cry for the first time. I don't think i have ever cried harder in a film, and i never cry during films. JoAnn Brandon was "infuriated" by her speech because Hilary Swank referred to Brandon Teena as "he" instead of "she," since she was still anatomically female. JoAnn, lay off. Brandon would've wanted to be called "he," she's paying respect to him, not you.

Hilary Swank's performance in this movie was absolutely outstanding. I cannot imagine anyone able to portray Brandon as well as she did. Amazing actress, amazing film, amazing boy, it's just such a terrible shame that ignorance, prejudice and hate caused his life to be taken from him abruptly, and in such a brutal way.
RIP Brandon, you're an inspiration to everyone to stay true to who they are.

I cannot picture any other actor to portray Brandon rather than Hilary Swank, she really brought his character out in the movie. Being a trans man myself, this movie was so emotional for me and thank you to Hilary Swank for giving such a great performance in the movie. Rest In Peace Brandon, you're an inspiration to us all.

i just saw Boys Don't Cry for the first time. I don't think i have ever cried harder in a film, and i never cry during films. Hilary Swank's performance was so good, if everyone saw this film i think our culture would think twice before judging those who are transgender, transsexual, and questioning

@027220 Brandon Teena was not his alter-ego. Brandon Teena was who he WAS. He was born into the wrong body, with the complete mindset of the male, but for some reason he had female reproductive parts. He was simply trying to be happy and live his life the way he should, the way he felt. Can you imagine feeling exactly as you feel just now with your gender and life, but having the body of the opposite sex and having to live as them everyday of your life? Not fun. Brandon Teena is an inspiration.

this movie had very little to do with "courage to be yourself". Deceiving other people can hardly be considered "courageous" and much more cowardly actually when you think about it. Real courage stands up and comes right out and states the truth.
