  • In German, "Die Mauer ist gefallen" would be absolutely correct. "Der Wallen ist gefallen" is kind of a nice playing with words, since "der Wall" is a correct German word. With a similar, but not exactly the same meaning as the meaning of the English word "the wall".

    But all that doesn't matter much when compared to the only thing of importance. That the f... wall is history - in Berlin, at least.

    Btw, I think the first person being interviewed is British and the second one Danish.

  • Now I'm be Dutch (like the white haired gentleman that was being interviewed), and German is not my first language, but how about: "Die Mauer ist gefallen"?

    Nice, though. I remember 20 years ago, how the year 1989 was so completely gob-smacking.

    I still haven't visited Berlin, though; I've been told it's terrific.
