I saw him and ngoni Ba at the Rialto in Atlanta on 11/05/11, the best performance i've seen in my lifetime. Makes the other so called music seem irrelevant.
Search "Amandrai" for Bassekou jamming with the late, great Ali Farka Toure. You won't be disappointed. The African music scene is vastly under appreciated! Amazing work here!!!
Bassekou Kouyate es el rey del Ngoni, y su grupo es incomparable. Este viernes vienen a tocar a Los Angeles-- Grand Performances, en el California Plaza. Ahí nos vemos. ¡Gratis!
It is amazing that an instrument which has been around for at least seven thousand years is still able to compete so admirably with higher technology. I hope it is around for another seven thousand years. It should tell us that the level of any culture's technology is no measure of the artistic merit of that culture. These people work marvels with these simple instruments. Going over to guitars would be a sad waste.
They were simply fantastic when I saw them Sunday night at the Rochester International Jazz Festival. Nobody wanted them to end the amazing performance!
Sat 29th May @ 6pm Taylor John's, Coventry BASSEKOU KOUYATE AND NGONI BA. Malian winners of Radio 3s Album of the Year & African Artist of the Year awards in 2008 for "Segu Blue" make Taylor Johns debut. Described by The Independent as "the best rock n'roll band in the world", Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba are not to be missed.
Saw these guys last night in Minneapolis. amazing! i could really see how this stuff was the ancestor to the blues/country/rock 'n' roll. very well done, they are quite amazing
Just heard of these folks on an NPR program.....wow, the finger work is amazing, the vocals great, singer too. Must add this to my music collection. The cut on NPR was from the new disc " I Speak Fula".....excellent!

These amplified xalams are one of the best (and suprising) thing I heard in my life. At first I thought I hear classical bluesy Stratocaster.
