Wow, haven't seen Dragon's Lair since the 80s at the arcade. My mommy only gave me so many quarters, so I didn't play this one as much and played something else.
I'm SO thankful that you actually know a thing or two (or three) about these games - alt moves included. All too many don't get them and simply disregard them.
I just picked this up based on your review and have to say that these are the BEST versions of each of these that you can find outside the actual arcade LD games. Actually better since these don't crash as often.
@Glitch969 So glad you found it useful! Did you check out the article at Review Lagoon too, or just watch the video? I wish more people knew about just how good this version is.
I just watched the video on my phone for a quick rundown/review and then picked up my copy on the spot. I was in the game store and had not heard anything about it one way or another - or even that there was a Wii version, so....
I've played Dragon's Lair on the iPod Touch, and I absolutely love that game. Same with Space Ace, as well. Does Dragon's Lair Trilogy have an Australian release? Because I'd love to get it on the Wii. :) Also, I'm surprised that there's no scoring system on DL II Timewarp, even though wikipedia said that picking up the treasures earns you bonus points.
the reason why you couldn't get the arrow again, im guessing, is because you already got it. but i don't remember it being like that in the arcade. doesn't look that good considering how many times it didn't react to you pressing the right direction. are they trying to emulate the real machine with the faulty joystick or something? bull.
I read your expert review and want to thank you for giving this port credit. I've had every one ever released and this is the closest I've ever seen with the exception of Daphne. I read some review that said DL2 is impossible without turning on the infinite lives. I just beat original and directors cut in 5 lives. Working on 3. Heard that there is a new DL coming out using some of today's technology. Any info on that?
@paranormalnorthtexas I am not privy to anything at this time. I'll be looking at Dragon's Lair on the DS (not the DSiWare one, but the cart version) soon.
Is there a way to get rid of the icons and arrows that pop up telling you what to do? They weren't in the arcade and i think they're annyoing. I have this game and I guess you cant turn them off? I tried hard mode.
@cguevara12 - I would love to have some of the SegaCD Digital Pictures games (Night Trap, Double Switch, etc) on the Wii. In fact, I am an acquaintance of Rob Fulup, one of the guys that worked on them - seeing if they have any plans to port those over. I'd LOVE that.
Both Destineer and Digital Leisure advertise "both standard and widescreen" viewing modes, but I saw no 4x3/1.33 option in this video. Is there such an option? I'm not keen on cropped widescreen. Wondering if there is a 4x3 option if it's accessed by changing the Wii's screen settings to 4x3—but then, that could just crop the sides of the cropped 16x9 image, making it SUPER cropped. Any word on this, those who've played it? It decides whether I make the purchase; I want the FULL 4x3 image.
@blackadder2012 So it is a backwards-ass option. But does switching the Wii to 4x3 output restore the top and bottom of the image, or does it just crop the sides of the already-cropped 16x9 image?
The real question is. Is there Loading? Answer: No. I bought it and if you set the options, you can hav a perfect arcade experience: 3 Lives, Random Rooms, No guides....1 issue:everytime you die, they show your lives, and you can't turn that off....Other than that, it looks and feels PERFECT.
Man, this is sooooooooo sweet! Thanks for sharing dude! I used to have DL 1 and 2 for my pc, but I got a new 64 bit machine and it didn't work anymore :(
Nice memory to dude. It looked like you remembered all of the sequences for all three games! I think I spent more money on DL1 in the arcade when I was a kid than Bill Gates and Opera have combined ;) Okay, not really, but it was a lot of money. My parents probably hated this game! lol
In Dragon's Lair II, you can't pick up the treasure twice. If you pick it up and then die, you still have the treasure and can't pick it back up. I just picked up this collection today and it's probably the best version ever. The Blu-ray version is nice, but has some problems and bugs (especially Dragon's Lair II). I own DL, DL II, and Space Ace on Wii, Blu-ray, DVD, Sega CD, CD-i, etc.
i feel ripped off, cause i bought the dragons lair 2oth anniversary box, and it came with DL1,2, and Space Ace. Whenever you press a button, it freezes for like 2 seconds, then plays the clip...
@SHlNOBl3 Did you have it for the PC or for the DVD player? Seek speed on the drive really makes a difference. The PC version offered a better experience.
its originally for use with dvd players. i tried it on my ps3, and it was loading after all the actions, but i tried it on the computer, and i was like...wtf, its running better on my crappy computer then my ps3.
@jstephenj - On ACE mode, the game skips this scene. I'll have a full review in the next day or two outlining the differences. Keep an eye on monroeworld for the full review.
@Wii60DS Why would they omit that on the hardest difficulty level? If anything, wouldn't they reward the player by including those scenes for playing on the more difficult level?
@jstephenj - The honest truth probably boils down to money. It was probably done to keep the runtime down - after all, less time = more games = more money.
There is a huge history of how Space Ace's original sequencing was botched (actually fixed in a custom romset later released for the game). This COULD just be a byproduct of that botching.
@Wii60DS I have only a fleeting recollection of Space Ace when it was released in 83. Laser disc games proved to be a passing fad back then, so they were never really in the arcades long enough for me to leave a lasting impression on me. Dragon's Lair seemed to be the only game that arcade owners gravitated to.
@Wii60I maybe saw Space Ace only half a dozen times before they were yanked from the arcades altogether, but I do remember that scene vividly because the extended dialogue and banter between Dexter and Kimberly is what set that game apart from Dragon's Lair, aside from the fantasy setting.
@Wii60DS I was never really a fan of laser disc games, but I loved the Bluth produced games because his team at least brought high production values to his games and did have an established pedigree in the entertainment industry. Alot of the other laser disc games seemed to cull their material off of obscure anime shows or, in the case of Firefox, use specific footage from Hollywood motion pictures.
@SHlNOBl3 Man, I have it too, and let me tell you that if you play this collection on a good DVD player (I have a SAMSUNG btw) you really play like the original Laserdisk, the timeouts are the same. And as everyone says, if you play in a faster DVD drive like a PC, you really see the difference, no time loss, instant access, etc. Really love this classic, and I'm going to get the Wii version too. ;)
@SHlNOBl3 - You would be surprised ... Console DVD drives aren't designed for quick random access. And the original arcade version had pauses between scenes for the Laserdisc to seek.

@ilikeplaystation As I said, this isn't a game for everyone. This game INVENTED the concept of QUICK TIME EVENTS (google it) - no it wasn't Shenmue. Dragon's Lair was extremely linear - Space Ace offers more choice and more fighting.
Excellent! Do you think they are better then the blu-ray? I bought 3 copies of the Wii version, cannot wait. What were your final thoughts! I thought the blu-ray's looked nice but the control was abysmal, lloks like the wii will be the definitive versions! It only took 27 years. What do you think, I would love to hear back from you, You know your dragons lair, I do too, but another opinion would be awesome!
Thanks for making the video! I'm a big fan of those games growing up...especally Space Ace...and this looks like the best version ever released. Looks like Destineer did a great job on it. I want this to my Wii collection for sure.
This was all style over substance back in the day and now it's not ever really even that to be honest. The gameplay was outdated from day one and now so are the visuals in many of the scenes.
I'm sure some people will love it but it's not my cup of tea.
@impurekind Quite right ... it's not for everyone. But, I'll take at least CONTROLLING the "cut scene" over just watching 82 minutes of it on one of the modern games :)
hi im 12 years old and this looks like a lot of fun but a bunch of people think this game is more for the adults that grew up with this game but i am interested in the history of video games so do you think i would have fun with this game
@RossEStern Do you enjoy the sequences in God of War and others where you have to hit a sequence of buttons in order to move the scene along? If you find that somewhat fun, this will appeal to you as well.

@KriztofferSwank
This game does include both 4x3 and 16x9 versions
To play in 4x3 mode you must select 4x3 as your video output option on the main wii screen
This game would have been perfect if they would have got Space Ace right.
