I couldn't guarantee that it's not dying but your best bet would be to get some air dust cleaner and blow air into the exhaust vents of your 360, make sure there's no dust or anything inside blocking the holes. Make sure the 360 is well ventilated when you're playing it and that's all you can do. Don't let it affect your game time. Are you not under warranty anymore?
If your REALLY worried, sell it and get a new one. My elite is quieter than my old 360.
that wouldn't make sense. The fan makes noise because it's spinning and moving hot air away from the 360, and the dvd drive makes noise because that is spinning at super fast speeds. My PS3 makes noise too. Neither are showing signs of dying.
i have an elite manufactured in JUly of 07 and it has a hitachi drive. It sounds exactly like that....but does instaling the insalation void the warranty?
yes it does void the warranty %100. I wouldn't do it until that warranty is expired. This was a second hand ebay 360... lasted over a year before it fried on me. gamestop didn't know it was jacked up so they gave me a full trade in value for it lol
are those aftermarket fans?? They usually run louder because they're displacing more of the heat, it's a decent trade off, louder fan, cooler system. Less likely to fry
it wasn't too bad I think this giant sheet(it's for a car door panel) cost $45-$60 I think? I can't remember it was a while ago... You can get speaker sized sheets like an 8x11" that costs like $20. that should be enough to wrap up the DVD Drive. It worked great, my modded 360 was quieter than my PS3, but I've since upgraded to an Elite.
Don't forget Microsoft extended their warranty plan to 3 years. So before you get it fixed by a third party (even though xboxDummy is a good deal) see if Microsoft will fix it for free!!!!!!!
The fan noise and drive vibrations are bearable, I always thought the problem was blown out of proportion. But comparing the white xbox 360 (especially the older versions) to past consoles or even the PS3 and it the old 360's are much louder than any other console. Luckily the Elite and future 360 models are supposed to have the heat sink to run cooler and create less heat. (surprisingly the Elite 360 is quieter and runs cooler than my Playstation 3)
I would say if your warranty is expired to it... if your warranty is still good don't risk it. I bought mine used from a guy with no receipt and had the Sound deadening installed and it worked great, but after almost a year I did get the rings of death and have bought an Elite which I wouldn't want void my warranty on. but the elite's run quieter and give off virtually no heat.

Actually my friend sent his in because he had a disc reader error, and he says when he got it back he could barely hear it.

my xbox is almost as loud on dashboard, as playing a game.
do you think its dying?
I'm to afraid to leave it on more then 20 seconds, cus i don't want it to blow up.
its making some weird noises too
