I was in the front row, near the entrance with my kids and ex. The salute scared the **** out of them! First time I saw the RHA was in the mid 50s when my uncle was in the Tournament. I've loved them ever since.
My husband was in the Kings Troop in the 80s and I used to be so proud going to watch the drives at various shows!Having always ridden horses myself I was fascinated to meet the Troop horses and hear about their very different personalities!Real characters some of them!
@timeandenvy To cut military costs, when Labour came to power in 1997 they did the SDR and through that it was cancelled . It is making a comeback though, just not under the 'Royal' name, google British Military Tournament.
Nice to see this again after so many years. I watched the show in Earls Court in the seventies and went there also as a student with a friend in 1981 and again in 1983 with another friend. I had no idea the Roral Tourrnament's tradition has been abolished in 1999. Pretty impressive this caroussel by the RHA and sad that the Royal Tournament became end-of-life. Would have loved to bring my sons there.
It is being brought back but it is called the British Military Tournament. Same format but is for 2 day rather than two weeks (atm). Google British Military Tournament.
