I'm gonna have to go with VR. Their version has that raw sound of the original. New GN'R has too many guitarists using dumb effects and it sounds jumbled and sloppy. Plus, seeing as how Slash, Duff, and Matt were all in GN'R they actually know how to play the song. I mean, they've only been playing it for 22 years (with the exception of Matt). Just because it's a GN'R song doesn't mean the new GN'R automatically plays it better. Just listen to the musicianship.

I disagree with everything here: Chinese Democracy is amazing album, the band just doesn't have the magic of the original, legendary group. The musicians can definitely play but they just don't have the same charisma and legacy as guys like Slash.
Scott Weiland is awesome singer, so is Axl Rose. Talk shit about one of them: you don't know anything about vocals. Rose has incredibly wide range, whereas Weiland's voice is damn versatile and suits many different music styles.

Actually sir, the band was a combination of Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns which the various members of what would be GN'R were in. Axl had the idea of "Guns N' Roses" in his head before ever asking anyone to join.
Furthermore, while they were all pretty drugged up, Slash took a particular liking to various substances, whereas Axl knew his limitations, for lack of a better phrase, and was able to atleast know when he was fucked up enough to stop.

You are right, Slash is a rock and roll guitarist, but he's hasn't really done anything "different" over the past years. VR keeps playing with the same style Gn'R had. Buckethead is amazing I know. About velvet. At least velvet revolver plays hard rock. all the bands know play alternative, punk, and metal. Weiland couldn't cut it, new GNR guitarists just play random fucking notes on the AFD stuff. VR was a GNR cover band with some half decent tracks thrown in, Snakepit 2 produced a great album of original, non-GNR-derivative, stuff. Waxl, from what I've heard (which is everything available here) has come up with a fucking colossal album, with only a few fillers. He seems to have trimmed a lot of the excess of the UYIs, eventually. Let's face it - They should have been "one" classic double album.

to be honest. i liked VR version alot better.
and i am really surprised by that because i like newguns much better then VR. but bandvise VR were 10000 times better, and vocalvise Axl was out of breath while scott played it cool. VR gets my vote.
and i bet i'm gonna get all the thumps down now.

i would much rather watch Slash, Duff, and Matt Sorum play that tune with a different singer, than watch a fat Axl sing it with a bunch of nobodies.
Besides, the recording quality of the two clips is vastly different, so it's hard to give an accurate opinion. But sometimes, it's not just about the sound, it's about the characters on the stage playing it.

Actually sir, the band was a combination of Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns which the various members of what would be GN'R were in. Axl had the idea of "Guns N' Roses" in his head before ever asking anyone to join.
Furthermore, while they were all pretty drugged up, Slash took a particular liking to various substances, whereas Axl knew his limitations, for lack of a better phrase, and was able to atleast know when he was fucked up enough to stop.

Interesting comparison of both bands. Sorry Axl, but I think Velvet Revolver sounded way better. Maybe its time to finally give Slash and Duff a call. I'm just sayin'. There is a lot of money to be made from a real GNR reunion! Think about it. You know that it will probably happen eventually.

Slash is getting old as well, and you gotta admit it, there are plenty of guitar players who can play those songs like Slash did, in fact, there are better guitar players than Slash (not in the newGNR currently, even though Buckethead was amazing)

You are right, Slash is a rock and roll guitarist, but he's hasn't really done anything "different" over the past years. VR keeps playing with the same style Gn'R had. Slash may be cooler than Axl (and definitly not as much of an asshole), but VR should have achieved much more than what they have done based only on their combined talents. And dude, even you gotta admit that Buckethead is an amazing guitar player

Buckethead is amazing I know. About velvet. At least velvet revolver plays hard rock. all the bands know play alternative, punk, and metal. So it is good to have a band who still rocks old school style. The cool style. Tell me another rock band that plays real hard rock other than velvet revolver. Either its alternative nor old bands coming back like acdc. But a new name its only velvet. So they are the best to me now.

Weiland couldn't cut it, new GNR guitarists just play random fucking notes on the AFD stuff. VR was a GNR cover band with some half decent tracks thrown in, Snakepit 2 produced a great album of original, non-GNR-derivative, stuff. Waxl, from what I've heard (which is everything available here) has come up with a fucking colossal album, with only a few fillers. He seems to have trimmed a lot of the excess of the UYIs, eventually. Let's face it - They should have been "one" classic double album.
