He'll be swinging by my house tomorrow for me to look it over because he doesn't know anything about turbocharged cars. I have a Forge adjustable DV/BOV splitter to put on it and see if that's the problem. Any pitfalls I need to look for? The car is stock. And what are the best performance sites for Mazdaspeed?

Until recently, Ford owned controlling stake in Mazda. That being said, All protege's were built in japan with mostly Japanese parts. Very little if any ford went into the protege. Ford did use a lot of the protege components in the past for cars like the Probe and Escort. I wouldn't buy most American cars. My one exception being a Vette. The fuel efficient ones are ugly and the good looking ones are too expensive or inefficient. Nothing beats an American truck though.

The SRT-4 has a completely different motor than any other neon, bigger brakes, stouter knuckles/axles, a much beefier transmission, new interior. The SRT-4's motor is much more capable than the n/a with a turbo kit motor used in the MSP. The stock srt-4 motor can take 4-500hp where the high compression MSP motor is hard pressed to make more than 250hp without a new bottom-end.

Both cars have their downfalls but the srt4 is the better of the two hands down.

Until recently, Ford owned controlling stake in Mazda. That being said, All protege's were built in japan with mostly Japanese parts. Very little if any ford went into the protege. Ford did use a lot of the protege components in the past for cars like the Probe and Escort. I wouldn't buy most American cars. My one exception being a Vette. The fuel efficient ones are ugly and the good looking ones are too expensive or inefficient. Nothing beats an American truck though.

NOT AT ALL, pass from 8 to 10 psi and you'll melt the block
it allways ping, the intercooler SUCKS, and the turbo's wasgate actuator breaks at least once a year
worst car mazda ever produced, the only thing good on em are the handling things(suspentions,bars,etc) and the lsd differential.THAT IS ALL. look for a familia with a bpt in it, WAY more potential, and still good for 20-25 psi on stock internal

@madmax2069 You are talken about two diffrent platforms here. First the srt is forged and rock solid from factory. The MSP is a normal FSDE motor with a turbo, thats non forged. Dont get me wrong i looked at buying both but picked my msp in the end.

@madmax2069 I'm afraid you're completely wrong. a MSP is simply a protege with a turbo kit and a spring/damper package. The SRT-4 has a completely different motor than any other neon, bigger brakes, stouter knuckles/axles, a much beefier transmission, new interior. The SRT-4's motor is much more capable than the n/a with a turbo kit motor used in the MSP. The stock srt-4 motor can take 4-500hp where the high compression MSP motor is hard pressed to make more than 250hp without a new bottom-end.

Interestingly enough that original neon motor that the A853 is based off (the 420A) was developed based on the 4g63, Widely considered to be one of the best performance 4 cylinders of all time. @BoCObeats An engine pulled from the PT cruiser parts bin that is unique in the neon range that was built up for performance duty(piston squirters,forged rods, superior piston/valve/HG material) . The engine's ancestry lies with the 4g63 (and 4g64 powering the worlds fastest Evo) It can readily take 500whp on the stock bottom end and is one of the most potent 4 cylinders out there. Far exceeding the capabilities of the 2.0 in the Protege. The MSP is literally a Protege with a turbokit slapped on

@madmax2069 not really.....the 2.4 in the srt is not a standard neon motor and they can handle up to 500hp on the stock internals pretty easily. In the right hands, people are running well into the 11's on the stock turbo/internals...if you call that over rated then fine.

The mazdaspeed protege was terribly designed, thats why the made it for 1 damn year. you wouldt think the pistons and rods were desinged to go in a fuckin 49cc scooter for gods sake. Both cars have their downfalls but the srt4 is the better of the two hands down.

What do you have done to the protege? I have always felt they were a nice car but they were hindered in stock form by their lack of power, decent for the time but now there are so many 250+ hp fwd models out there :)
