  • also, trying to down someone about their cars performance while driving a volvo just doesn't work out.......... like ever..... and barely handles it's stock power? engine is maxed out? you realize the srt has blcok internals capable of over 500whp right? and that just an upgraded wastegate has proven gains of over 20whp? It's an amazing platform that is highly underrated because of the fact it's a neon. You drive a volvo, just keep that in mind. because performance isn't your foothold.

  • I've got a friend looking to buy a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege. He's having some power loss, and through description. Seems like the DV. He'll be swinging by my house tomorrow for me to look it over because he doesn't know anything about turbocharged cars. I have a Forge adjustable DV/BOV splitter to put on it and see if that's the problem. Any pitfalls I need to look for? The car is stock. And what are the best performance sites for Mazdaspeed?

    Neon SRT-4 blocks are good to a little over 500 HP on stock internals. You're confusing people that put turbos on N/A neon motors. The SRT-4 engine was designed by Mercedes Benz...and is an extremely well built platform. It's not my fault you ricers don't know shit about cars. Read up and then come see me.

    You see, the block may be able to handle it, same with the pistons and rods, but does the entire engine handle it without losing a lot of reliability? NO! You can't change out the headers and all the seals while sleeving the motor and call it stock just because the components are still "stock." As far as being called a ricer by you, I'm happy to be reffered to as such by an SRT-4 admirer. If you have backwards understanding of cars like you do, then same must apply to terminology.

  • @USGiorgi I'll say this, badfish doesn't know what he's talking about (the engine is NOT built by mercedes, it's an A853 engine designed and built by chrysler for years lol) but you do realize there are no "headers" on a turbocharged I4 right? the turbo and manifold are one unit. To change the header is to change the turbo.... And as far as reliability, you need to fact check yourself. The A853 set the world landspeed record for fastest production 4 cylinder cars. Sound good to me.

    Reliability and performance don't usually go hand in hand. That's especially true for Dodge and pretty much every American car maker. They may be reliable if driven like regular Neons, but the people who own them are complete tools who try to race every car on the road. They're like little Chihuahuas who wont stop barking! You're right though, instead of headers, I should have said manifold.

  • @USGiorgi I can see where you're coming from about the drivers. But you gotta look at the other factors. When the car came out, it was cheap to buy, cheap to insure, and pretty quick. So a lot of parents bought them for their dumbass kids. Does that mean every srt driver is like that? not at all. Yea performance and reliability don't usually go hand in hand, but that can be said about ANY auto maker (besides the italians). Darrel Cox owns a few and i'm pretty sure he's not a tool.

By losing that tax our government loses a lot of money which would go to schools, health care, etc. Also where do you think the profit for those cars goes??? It goes to other countries to support their economy instead of improving ours we are improving theirs. as for unreliable, look at the statistics, ford is #1. my jeep has over 300k and runs great with no major repairs ever.

  • Stock msp's came with 7lbs of boost for people's info. It's wasn't that it was a terrible designed car..it was the 1st year of the mazdaspeed name and they wanted the mazdaspeeds to be rare. Direct quote from mazdas president.

The FS-DE engine and Mazda G-series transmission found in the Probe, 626, mx-6, Protege, 323 and many other mazdas were designed by Mazda. The only Mazda vehicles you will find in the u.s. prior to 2003 that used parts from FORD were the trucks and SUV's. Let me guess.... you drive a FORD. If you were worth the time, I would post a vid of my 2002 Mazda Protege door sticker that says MADE IN JAPAN.

  • Until recently, Ford owned controlling stake in Mazda. That being said, All protege's were built in japan with mostly Japanese parts. Very little if any ford went into the protege. Ford did use a lot of the protege components in the past for cars like the Probe and Escort. I wouldn't buy most American cars. My one exception being a Vette. The fuel efficient ones are ugly and the good looking ones are too expensive or inefficient. Nothing beats an American truck though.

  • NOT AT ALL, pass from 8 to 10 psi and you'll melt the block

    it allways ping, the intercooler SUCKS, and the turbo's wasgate actuator breaks at least once a year

    worst car mazda ever produced, the only thing good on em are the handling things(suspentions,bars,etc) and the lsd differential.THAT IS ALL. look for a familia with a bpt in it, WAY more potential, and still good for 20-25 psi on stock internal

  • @madmax2069 You are talken about two diffrent platforms here. First the srt is forged and rock solid from factory. The MSP is a normal FSDE motor with a turbo, thats non forged. Dont get me wrong i looked at buying both but picked my msp in the end.

  • @madmax2069 I'm afraid you're completely wrong. a MSP is simply a protege with a turbo kit and a spring/damper package. The SRT-4 has a completely different motor than any other neon, bigger brakes, stouter knuckles/axles, a much beefier transmission, new interior. The SRT-4's motor is much more capable than the n/a with a turbo kit motor used in the MSP. The stock srt-4 motor can take 4-500hp where the high compression MSP motor is hard pressed to make more than 250hp without a new bottom-end.

Interestingly enough that original neon motor that the A853 is based off (the 420A) was developed based on the 4g63, Widely considered to be one of the best performance 4 cylinders of all time. So you could easily say the SRT-4's engine pedigree is admirable. (cont)

  • @BoCObeats An engine pulled from the PT cruiser parts bin that is unique in the neon range that was built up for performance duty(piston squirters,forged rods, superior piston/valve/HG material) . The engine's ancestry lies with the 4g63 (and 4g64 powering the worlds fastest Evo) It can readily take 500whp on the stock bottom end and is one of the most potent 4 cylinders out there. Far exceeding the capabilities of the 2.0 in the Protege. The MSP is literally a Protege with a turbokit slapped on

    I'm sorry to inform you but you are a moron. I will give it to you straight, an srt4 is 2.4l TURBO, a neon is 2.0 dohc n/a. The mazdaspeed protege was terribly designed, thats why the made it for 1 damn year. you wouldt think the pistons and rods were desinged to go in a fuckin 49cc scooter for gods sake. Both cars have their downfalls but the srt4 is the better of the two hands down.

  • What do you have done to the protege? I have always felt they were a nice car but they were hindered in stock form by their lack of power, decent for the time but now there are so many 250+ hp fwd models out there :)
