  • If you overclocked this to 14MHz, you could create a full FLAC player using the AY chip :)

I'm 11 and I have 4 PCs (one C64, 3 IBM compatibles), and 4 VCRs (two tape camcorders, two desktop VCRs) in my room.

  • WOOAAHH :0-) This is well cool man, full explanation needed for a dumbass though even if you av to email me all the info how to do it,what was used etc, would u do that man? Iv got a spectrum somewhere, did u use one or an emulator on PC?? What's the music program called?Sweet tune man

  • @mckeeclyde Thx man. :) Well, the program is here: zxspectrum48. i-demo. pl/aymusic.html (remove spaces) and it works on ZX48+AY interface or on ZX128. :)

  • Sweet!

  • I never had any 8bit machine. My first computer was Amiga A1200 and I'm still using it for AHX (chiptune tracker) and Protracker. ZX Spectrum is one of the most interesting retrocomputers. I didn't know that Speccy supports sampled sounds and I didn't know it has stereo sound!

  • @Scumkill2 Well, the first fully digital tracker for Spectrum48 appeared in 1993. Of course there are more nowadays, also for Spectrum128. As for stereo - the AY chip is stereo by default. Sadly, to make the computers cheaper - Sinclair made a mono sound output (which suxx). Now people make the output back into original stereo. However new AY-interfaces for Spectrum48 are already stereo of course.

    Greetings!

  • @yerzmyey Thanks for response. I would like to buy a Speccy (because it's cooler than any 8-bit machine) one day for my own 8-bit retrocomputing enjoyment and music stuff. Tapes are already dead (and not really convenient), so what is the alternative today? Do you use any DIY/hack tape or floppy emulator (like Amiga/Atari users) with your Speccys? I ask because I'm hater of emualtion. An emulation is BETRAYAL!)

  • @Scumkill2 You can use MP3 players.

You can even speed the files up on your PC to make it load faster - nearly pissed myself when I had a go and it worked. BLIP and manic miner was running!

Nuda.

  • @Scumkill2 Aaaa, w takim wypadku zapraszam na maila: yerzmyey AT interia.pl

  • @Scumkill2 It didn't have stereo sound, but could always support sampled sounds - be it at very low quality.

  • Cool

  • I just want to get a emulator for PC just to make awesome music like this!

    spasibo!

  • Lovin' the rimshot snare!

  • ZX Spectrum is great. I also love Atari ST - there are also a lot of similarities between these two machines. Not to mention that Yerz is doing a lot of good things on both platforms! Thanx Yerz.

  • Yeah, ST series rulez big time. :)

  • Power!!!

  • Bolshoye spasibo. ;)

  • Another mega track, Yerz!!! :) I love your style.

  • Thx!! :)

  • yerzmyey ive heard your music on 8bit peoples, i like it :)

i have a question, i have a zx spectrum 128 +2 and i want to know how i can get tracking software on to tapes so i can use it.

  • Thanx, man.

As for the soft, You can record it also on CDs or MP3 files and load onto Spectrum. Read this thread, it should help (delete spaces):

    "8bitcollective . com / forums / viewtopic . php ? id = 15563 & p = 1"

  • Cheers for the link, its very helpful :)

  • is this music style the same as that of all the

    .mod music files?

  • Hi.

The style is the same but the format is different because ZX Spectrum has only 3 channels.

  • okey, thank you

  • That tracker progrma looks like Monotone (tracker/composer software for PC Speaker).... cool...

  • never had this tune . Amazing shit like the americans would say . lol 5 stars stuff . really .

  • Well, the song is kinda new. I made it this year or a year ago... or so. But if You want it on Your computer, it's in a game entitled "Kuiper Pursuit ". Get it from POUET. But the game is only for Spectrum 128.

  • WOW this tune is better than the shit in the uk charts !!!!! :-D Well done

  • Haha, thanks man. :)

  • Hehe, I like it. Very 80's sounding tune too. Reminds me of "The Hit Man And Her."

  • Heh, thanx. :) Well, it's possible as I love all the 80s music. :)

  • I thought it sounded like early 90's SNAP!

  • That might be too. :)

  • This sounds totally awsome!

what kind of synth is this? I know it's the CPU, but what kind of synth is it pulling off?

  • Many thanx.

Well, it comes from AY chip.

  • I beleive this falls under wavetable synthesis.

  • Actually I don't know any details about it so I can't tell You 'yes' or 'no'.

  • Well, midi and music module {Amiga mod) all fall into this category so I think this would too.

  • i don't think so ;) wavetables are looped waveforms. these are all samples. if anything it's sample + synthesis

  • Ah, so You are right of course. They're all samples. I didn't understand what he ment.

  • Hi from Czech! Sample Tracker was really amazing. Furthermore there was another dig. tracker in development by some guys from Prague. Never finished because PCs came to scene... I have entire tape casette with recorded digital... but quality after all those years.. not good :(

  • Hi from Czech! Yes sample tracker was extra amazing! I still have a whole tape casette with recorded digitals... but because of those years the quality not good... Even there was one more yet better digital tracker under development by some programmers of Prague. Unlucky it took so long that PCs came to the scene and it was never done.

  • Przecież gumiak lepszy od peceta! Wszyscy to wiedzą!

  • Potwierdza to tezę, że jakby z PC wycisnąć tyle co zrobiono z ZX Spectrum, to latałby on w kosmos

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA, DOBRE! :) Usmialem sie. :)

  • you are genius guys ! :) a module tracker on speccy :) megalol :) cool !!!!

  • That's actually a Czech program but yes, it's brilliant stuff considering it works on regular Rubber Spectrum (with or without AY interface).

They are maybe not real modules (only 3 channels) but I think it sound good enough. ;)

  • I think I've totally fallen in love with the AY/YM after hearing this song. Of course it's "weaker" than the SID/Pokey from the hardware side ... but that's what makes it interesting.

Do you have the track in Pentagon or +2 format? I'd love to play the way it's meant to be :)

  • Well, kida true, however SID, as analogue synthesizer (not regular soundchip) isn't designed to play digital music in this way (note by note, in every channel, like Amiga or ZX do). As for pokey, true: this mono chip has one more channel which is surely good for digital music.

If You remind my Your e'mail address, I will send You this song in TAP format.

  • True ... SID is half-analouge with it's Filters and stuff.

Anyways ... my email is mos6502c [at] gmail [dot] com

  • Yo, the TAP has been sent! ;) Worx on ZX48K+AY and higher models.

    Greetz!

  • Yup, got it :) Already enjoyed it. Thanks again.

  • I think it's harder to feed 4 channels with different replay frequencies on samples with CPU than mixing 4 channels with the CPU and playing them via one output channel. Ofcourse you can lock the update frequency of the 4 channels but then the result is just the same as CPU mixing.

  • That's why ZX trackers replay 3-channels frequecies on 3 channels of AY's sound. Just like Amiga500 does but with CPU's activity. The only chip making it better is pokey (from Atari XL/XE) - it has 4 channels and it can play regular MODs from Amiga500. Really cool stuff, You should listen to it one day. I can give You several e'mail addresses. The guyz will send You fine software.

  • Using only the hardware channels is quite limiting. And all you save from it is a few ADDs to join the channels into one (that's what the hardware does anyway when joining the channels to one output).

  • ...and that's what does when You choose playin from Z80 chip.

As far as I know, join channels into one can give You playin' 4chnls instead of 3 - and in this case I'd tend to agree.

  • I didn't know an 8-bit computer could do all that. BTW how long did it take you to learn how to use a tracker?

  • For ZX Spectrum and Atari XL it's an old feature. However Atari can play 4 channels.

As for the tracker, I think it doesn't take too much time to learn it but it takes some comsiderable time to experiment :) "what is where". ;)

  • Genius

  • We need more digitized stuff on the Spectrum! I remember one russian game had a digital sample music on its intro, but I forgot which one. :( Ever since my cousin showed me his TC2048 saying 'Of course I can talk' in Portuguese, loading sampled data from his FDD3000 back in 1987, I became instantly fascinated with the idea of putting digitized stuff on the Spectrum! Yerzmyey, was this music composed on a synth or on a computer? Thanks!

  • Hi there. :) I also like digital music from AY. :)

Well, this song has been composed on ZX Spectrum. The prog on the video is a ZX editor named "Sample-Tracker". :) A cool stuff producing music for Spectrum 48K with AY interface or Spectrum 128K. :)

  • No, no, there are no mixed samples (like drums with bass or something). :)

However it's a good idea, people from Amiga made it many times. Maybe I'll try it one day. ;)

  • szacun!

  • Simply the best !

     -Vin

  • Yerz, that's fucking amazing|! i want to use my spectrum +3, would it run this?

I'll send you a mail later about that amiga cable :)

    cheers!

    /akira

  • Pitiful youtube doesn't allowes me to write what I want. And this is a CENSORESHIP. Totalitarism.

Anywayz. I can send You the song in ZX format. :) Of course it will work on ZX 128K +3. :)

  • The best quality audio never seen on spectrum.

    Excelent.

  • One more thing... Since you have the talent... how about working on a converter to convert wav or mod files to compiled sample that the Spectrum can play? Or is it difficult because you need all tracks/instruments separately? :)

  • Sadly Spectrum still (maybe not too long?) cannot play 4 channels. Atari ST can do it (it has the same sound-chip: AY [YM]).

But I think one day will be possible to play even 4-channels MODs on Spectrum. :)

    Who knows. ;)

  • I wanted to give it 5 stars, but you have ratings disabled. :)

I would love to hear more stuff done with the Sample Tracker. I've always been fascinated with digitized audio and video on the Spectrum. I love the fact that digitized audio is no longer limited to 4 seconds. I don't know how to use that tracker but once in a while I listen to the 3 demos that come with it.

  • I will try to upload more of digital soundtracks demos soon (there are hundreds of them).

Meanwhile You can contact me with PM. :)

    Greetz!

  • very cool!
