  • Martin D-28 Marquis a great guitar one of my favorites. Imagine is it had a LSH it would be the best Martin.

  • lol i really want tabs for what he started playing at 1:47!

  • Really nice playing. Do you prefer the D28 over the HD28? Just curious. The D28 seems more focused to me, although not as warm.

  • @peterpulpitpounder If you have the means, the HD 28 does have a little fuller sound, and has a little more eye candy. The D28 is the meat and potatoes workhorse acoustic. They both are legendary and you can't go wrong either way.

  • @NstuffMusic

Thanks for the input. I've got the HD28 now, but to me I'm wondering if it lacks the articulation I want, which the standard D28 seems to have. The HD28 has such a long decay to it, not sure I'm gonna like long term.

  • @peterpulpitpounder HD all the way, for deeper bass and clearer mids and highs. With more sustain and vol. Now the Clarence White D-28 is better then the HD-28. The Clarence White D-28 has Prewar scalloped bracing.,if this is to much money for you. Check out the Martin HD-16R LSH it has Hybrid Scalloped bracing. Has a mod. low profile neck 1/34 nut. This is a great sounding guitar from, with deep bass, super clear mids and highs. Very fast action.

  • @peterpulpitpounder With factory saddle and pins. it sounded great. Still sounded as good as a HD-28, if not better. I upgraded saddle to bone and push pins, strap pin,and end button to bone. Now it crushes a HD-28. It will hold its own to a Clarence White D-28 LSH,and a HD28V LSH Martin doesn't make a HD-28V LSH anymore. HD-16R LSH list around 2699. Sells for 1999.95.

You're supposed to tell me the HD28 can't be beat! I'm actually now the "official" owner of a new HD28. Bought it from Guitar Center 2 months back, it being the Xmas season I had it for 60 days. As I mentioned, I wasn't sure it was articulate/bright enough for me, so I was contemplating the D28. In any case, it's mine now, so I'm gonna have to make it my own. I may in the future switch it out for something else. Thanks!

  • @peterpulpitpounder Just put bone pins in it.That will bring out your mids and highs. I did tell you. To get the Hd-28

  • flea balzary voice!

  • He said "CLASSIC Martin-type saddle" not plastic saddle!

  • So sorry you haven't corrected that horrible mistake regarding the thickness of the top. A 5/16" thick top would require that it be vibrated with a sledge hammer. The D28 Marquis is a super, super instrument, so please do it justice by stating all the appointments correcrly. I called your co. about this about a month ago. You should have said,.095 to .120 in. thick.

  • D-28 Marquis has the scalloped bracing too.

  • thanks! you threw me when you said "Martin plastic type saddle": in your video.

  • did you say it has "Martin plastic type saddles" ? I think you mean't to say Martin Fossilized Ivory saddle which is an upgrade on the standand bone saddles that Martin uses.

  • @jaywilkinsband No on the Martin D-28 Marquis has bone nut and bone saddle. Even on my HD-28 came with bone nut and bone saddle. It is not plastic,or Fossilized fake Ivory.

  • @bluegrasssingingman From the D-16 line up are bone.

  • @bluegrasssingingman Sorry D-16 uses : White Corian and tusq

  • very nice demo and tastefuly done. great guitar and a great player. i own an old 1978 d 28 and i will never part with it. but i am very impressed with the santa cruz line ,some thing must be said for the 30 year old wood that they construct with, and they are a very play able instrument. i have choosen to keep my martin as a traditional style blue grass guitar, but i finger pick it al so. but when you get right down to it there is no other guitar that sounds as a cf martin

  • I owned an HD-28 for about a year, and eventually traded it in on a D-28 Marquis. If you like an HD-28, the Marquis has more of everything the HD-28 has and more. The finish is better, the sound is better, fuller, richer, the adirondack top really makes a difference, but it does take a while to open up. So, if you listen to a brand new D-28 Marquis, be aware it will open up a lot over time. The HD-28 not so much.

  • Does the HD28 have Herringbone binding?

  • @goredeathrot Yes.

  • Nice playing. And doesn`t that martin sound good !

  • How would you compare this to an HD-28? I play fingerstyle and like a raw woody growl with a light touch. I camt play one of these what would you say?

  • @clueworm82 The HD28 sounds fuller and louder because it has the scalloped X bracing.

  • @NstuffMusic Thanks for the reply! I totally agree. I was able to play one of these finally and surprisingly I did like the hd28 better. However, I did end up with a d-28 custom that put them all to shame. Wonderful guitar.

  • @NstuffMusic The D-28 Marquis has scalloped bracing too.

  • @clueworm82 The D-28 Marquis also has scalloped X bracing

  • @clueworm82

I just bought an HD28, and although it sounds fuller to me, it is not as distinct or focused as the D28, which I do not like. To me, it resonates too much. I think I'm going to take it back and get the D28.

  • Great playing but that mic is too much of a whimp for that guitar!

  • hi mark. thanks for the vid. what mic are you using in this setup?

  • @nhojcam We used a Audio Technica AT4081 ribbon mic $624.99 at nstuffmusic.

  • How would you compare this guitar with the Santa Cruz Vintage Artist?

  • @pelekon We do not sale the Santa Cruz guitars so I'm not familiar with them. It's pretty hard to beat the Martin though.

  • What strings have you used here? Brand, type, gauge?

  • @pelekon I believe they are the Martin SP 80/20 bronze medium gauge.

  • great playing! I would literally do anything for that guitar haha

  • @nickodood Go to work and earn some money and buy it? ;)
