Apparently, from what I've read, the penguin's attract each other by singing their heart song. This one penguin named Mumble can't sing, and worse, he tap dances which is an embarrassment to his family. Then he meets 5 Latino penguins from another colony, and learns about the world. Also, I guess there's some sort of unexplained fish shortage that occasionally figures in to the movie, in addition to constant catchy tunes.
