This was a musically interesting song (to say the very least) from their early 1970's album "Music Is The Message".

The album (musically) should be graded as a whole, which would include the title track (Music Is The Message) amongst others.

As for "early Kool and the Gang", this (as a whole) is musically no doubt one of their better albums.

The more commercially viable r&b/pop stuff (Jungle Boogie, Funky Stuff, Hollywood Swinging) wasn't to come for a couple more years in the their future.
