  • Sin of sins, would it go in a GU patrol??

  • Wonder where i could pick up the motor and box from :s

  • you reckon this would fit into an 80series GXL? i have a 4.2l turbo diesel (factory) which just shit it self. just need info thanks mate

  • @venn54 You could probably get it in there. Is far as I know, the chassis rails are the same from 80-105, so that leaves the guards and bonnet which will probably need some modifying. But, where there's a will there's a way!

  • @AustImages

have u seen the mechanical injection conversions to things like duramax and powerstrokes in USA?

they use it for tractor pulling etc; I guess its a lot less clean etc but interesting.

U have to somehow make adaptors for mech injectors.

Good conversion btw, but electronic trickery puts me off.

I still drive an old ford 1.8 diesel, no electronics and 55mpg ish.

  • would ya be able to fit this in an 08 lux?

  • @AUSfmx99 No chance. This engine is way, way to big to fit in a hilux.

  • Do you think that engine would fit in the 1992 75 series landcruiser.

  • @random23hero666 I don't think so. Toyota had to widen the chassis and front bodywork considerably to fit it into the new 70 series, so I don't think the '92 75-series would have the space.

  • @AustImages be good if it had a mechanical injection pump conversion otherwise u loose the essence of the land cruiser, that is simplicity for ease of repair in the bush and rugged reliability.

    sounds lovely.

  • @tpvalley Unfortunately, that's the way it is now. There's no way a mechanical system would be able to meet the emission regulations these days.

  • @AustImages

yes multi shot injection is the key to todays systems and ultra high pressure.

u can retro fit mechanical pumps to them still though, they smoke a bit more and u have to mount the pump but it makes the engine more third world and home repair friendly.

  • Thats just brutal man

  • bloody nice bloke. i was looking at putting one of these in my HZJ79 ute, where can u get a motor from?

  • @FeralHQute I got the motor by buying a written-off 79-series ute, and removing the engine, driveline and electrics. See the webpage linked in the description for more details.

  • @AustImages cheers mate. i just have to say well done, youve done bloody awesome job on your 100 series!

  • nice car mate, do you reckon that motor would fit in a v6 100 series engine bay? and would you have a rough estimate on the price of the engine?

  • @phatGTO1 A V6 100-series? The 100 only came as I6 or V8. It should fit similarly in either, perhaps more easily in the V8 due to IFS and slightly wider chassis. I didn't really look into it.

  • @AustImages yeah its a 98 100 series cruiser the first ones that came out, non ifs straight 6 diesel the 105's have turbo diesel 6's so i dunno, cheers anyway

  • @phatGTO1 That's exactly the same as my car. It was originally a I6 diesel (1Hz).

  • @AustImages yeah mate thats the way to go, do you know if they fixed the big end bearing problem in the 1hz's by the time the 100's came out cause i read in a magazine they had that problem when they had the engine in the 80 series cruisers so do you know if they fixed it by the time they brough the 100 series out or did they just stick the same engine in it?

  • @phatGTO1 I think the big end problem was with the Turbo 80-series, not the plain 1Hz. And AFAIK it was a batch issue and fixed long ago.

  • @AustImages ok thanks for the help mate cant wait to start modding my car

  • a 1hd-fte with a few bolt on's will pull just as hard

  • Yes, that's true, the 1HD is a nice motor. But it's old-tech, and getting more out of it means more stress and more fuel. Add a chip to the 1VD and it will blow it away, while also remaining relatively un-stressed and using much less fuel. Remember it's built to make at least 205kW.

Even with a heavy foot, I'm getting 9-12L/100km out of the 1VD, and an amazing 14-15 fully laden towing a 1000kg camper-trailer. My old 1Hz-Turbo used more than that amount empty!

  • Nice lc pls can u advise me I'm after a lc and was wondering which one is best the 80 series or 100 series thank u

  • 80 is cheaper, older. Pretty much the same mechanicals as the 100-series, at least for a later model 80.

The 100 is more modern, quieter, better interior. More engine options. It all depends on what's important to you.

  • can you show me where to get one? I live in the philippines

  • how did you get a new D4D V8 engine, when it just came out in the market?

  • This engine has been out in Australia since January 2007. I got it by purchasing a crashed vehicle and removing the engine. I can't tell you where to get one in your country, other than keeping an eye out at crashed vehicle auctions or wrecking yards. More info on the webpage in the video description.

  • hey mate

so these motors will go into the chassis rails of the 100 and 79 series with no real dramas??

  • It only *just* fits between the 100-series rails. About 10mm on the left side between the turbo and the chassis rail. 20mm on the right side between the exhaust manifold and the steering shaft. Technically, this is actually the 105-series (the 4.5L petrol six and 4.2L non-turbo diesel with solid front axle). I believe the true 100-series (the 4.7L petrol V8 and 4.2L T/D with independent front suspension) have slightly wider chassis rails and it should therefore fit more easily into these models.

  • As for the old 78/79-series (pre-V8), I doubt whether the engine would fit without major chassis surgery. If that's what you're planning, make sure you measure it first. The V8 76/78/79 have a considerably wider chassis from the firewall forwards.

  • i see. yeah i was thinkin the 79 and 100 series all had the same chassis. thanks for the info cheers

  • Congrats!

    Thanx for sharing.

    Great work.

  • This is interesting.

I wonder how well it fits and how easy is it ?

  • It's a tight fit, and it's not very easy!! See the conversion page in the video description.

  • Thanks. I just looked at your conversion website.

You have been very busy ! I could never do such a thing, i don't have the patients or time or the skill.

It is nice to see you succeeded. I would have just put in a chev 6.5. But then again, that costs 25000 from Brunswick Diesels.

That is what I am doing to my 2006 79 series. ( I think.... )

Thanks for the explanation and good video. Best of luck with everything !

  • impressive work!
