  • i like your video thanks alot. i subbed. is that a leatherman wave? i have the charge ti which is exactly the same but, with titanium handles. i also like the dog. german shephards are great dogs. keep it up with the great videos. i always enjoy learning.

  • And if you really are prepared why wouldnt you just have a flashlight? noob.

  • Great!!! Thank you!

  • if you only have string or vines to lash the torch together with you can pinch it inbetween 3 or 4 (or more) sticks and lash the sticks together where the string wont burn. using a bunch of sticks can also help increase the duration that the torch will last by slightly limiting oxygen to the flame.

  • Can you use coal?

  • try adding some pine sap/pitch for a longer burn

  • sweet torch

  • say you don't have snare wire, could you use roots?

  • A nice tourch. Here is another one..handy if you have no wire. Take a stick about 5-8 inches wide...and at least the length of your forarm long. Cut a wide X on the bigger end of your stick. Cut it about 4-6 inches deep and each cut should be about a half inch wide.

Stuff the X with good dry tinder. Light it up and you have a long burning tourch. Do the same thing with a bigger around stump or log and you have a stove that will burn a long time and you can set a pot on.

  • Hey could you please make a video like if a plane crashed cant find or reach wire and need to hurry to safety cause you know that there is a slim chance you wont survive? If you can I think that could help a lot of peaple

  • @rhettman413 See my post about a fast torch. Also, a dried mullein stock with the seed head still on makes a great torch. Even better still if you have either oil pour on it or some wax or old crayons or animal fat to melt onto it.

  • i like your partner the best one ther is:)

  • a big "lol"

  • nice but I would like to see how to do it will all natural materials I can find, without wire.

  • @yardsalefrog read my two posts about natural and fast torches...

  • how long will this last the one in ur hand

  • do u hav a dog

  • youre dog is beautiful. i also liked your video a lot.

  • great video bro i tried it and it worked like a charm

  • i think im going to use ranger bands, its rubber yes, but they burn for a while, do you advise me doing that?

  • say mate, mind if i ask whats the name of the knife u are using? seen it before but dont remember the name.

  • THANK you so much for posting this video

  • dude thats sick im gonna try and do that. it looks like it works really good

  • Saving time and having no wire, try finding a fallen Pine tree, depending how rotten the trunk is you could either rip out a branch (make sure you get the knotty bit inside the trunk) or with your small hatchet chop it out and there is so much resin inside the knotty bit that your will have a torch that will last depending on size for upto and over an hour.

  • do you have a video camra recorder or so how do you make a best tourch that would last some good time i dont just want a big fire then it burning my stick and end up walking in the dark

  • Will see what i can do, but with work commitments it can be hard to get out in the field.

  • i know how to make a much better torch

I only need a long stick

    some walnuts

a stone some fibered bark flint

Oh and how did he make the torch burn oh yeah a lighter very natural.

  • Okay do it your way then. Why don't you make a bow drill or whatever natural way you want to make a fire and put it on you torch...which is faster? If you have a survival kit with you, you might as well use it...

  • HE is an amateur? I do NOT think so. You're 19 years old. He is 24 years old. He has had 5 more years of experience than you. And take a look at his channel. On the "About Me" section, It reads "I'm an active member of a local Constitutional Patriot group. I have experience in the wilderness. I am outdoors regularly practicing my skills." Perhaps you would need a bigger torch, but just because it didn't work for you doesn't mean you need to call him an amateur.

  • Thanks Nighthawk! You are the man. Its funny how people post comments like that and you can tell they obviously dont know what they are talking about. The guy hasnt even made a video himself but is criticizing others. Also he doesnt offer any better suggestions on tourches. Thanks again Bro. You are a good friend.

  • @Nighthawk961 good job standing up for a good video

  • Just make a cut from the top to the tip of the dead birch branch and just unwrap it! Much more simple... I made it this morning

  • Why not use/grab an old stick made from a dead birch tree and just use it?

  • Another great video. Thank you.

  • Thanks Buddy!

  • thnks D7eadnaught

  • if you remove too much bark from a living tree, you expose the bark (cork) cambium, bark producing layer gets infected real quick, look after trees they will look after us

  • @D7eadnaught it will survive as long as you dont ring bark it.

  • it worked awsome and it stayed lite about 10 mins. thnk ryan

  • Thanks alot im going camping this weekend and im going to try this really usefull ***** awsome

  • is there anything you can inprovise the wire with btw nice dog

  • small thin wet roots, or withies, enjoy weed roots anykind so long as there wet through

  • thanx dude

    thumbs up

been lookin for this for awhile n other people dont seem to know what the hell there doing

    how do i subscribe

  • blind leading the blind

  • Dude! Once more: Very, very useful!

    5 stars

  • I bet that using cattails would be good for starting it with a flint, then the birch could take over.

  • hey cool thats a knife that laneakjk made(laneakjk is a youtube account so you can look him up)

  • Hey Ryan...great vid. I wanna make a burning torch for a film sequence but it doesn't need to be natural materials. Do I just wrap cloth around a stick and soak in kerosene or is there some trick to make it burn properly and long as possible?

  • Nice man that's a real good video!!!

Now i know how to make 1 thx!!!!

  • Thanks for the support Man

  • That was rally cool, but it looks like you threw the wire in the water and you didn't check to see if you could use it again.

  • This was just a demo. In an actual survival situation I would of kept the wire. You could use it again for sure, at least the thicker wire I was using in the vid. Thanks Man, much appreciated

  • Have you ever seen a bushcraft split log torch in action?

  • Nope, I Believe I've read about it though. If it's good let me know the details. Thanks

  • At the coventry meet, we split green coppice (about thumb stick thick) and folded dropped birch bark and pushed it into the split, lit them and they worked a treat, no wires needed :)

  • how do you make your good quality snare trap

  • There are many different types of traps. I will have videos on some of these in the future. The most basic is a loop that works like a noose, caputuring the prey around the neck.

  • Great video Ryan. It has been a while since I have made a natural torch

  • Hey Ryan,

    thanks for the video response.

    i'm walking in your shadow.

  • No Problem, Thanks for the great question!

  • Pretty cool vid man. Wish we had birch here.

  • nice demo bro. 5/5 also splintering the end of the branch and fanning it out before adding the bark might add to the life of the flame, just a thought.

  • EXCELLENT suggestion! I'll hafta try that next time. Thanks man.

  • Thanks for uploading. Good tips! Specially on the wire, which is an excellent choice for the torch. Gonna check out the other vids now 5/5

  • awesome vid and idea. You Ryan are one of the few ppl on youtube that actually respond to ppl that comment to you. please Keep up the great work. Kinda sux there is no birch trees around here, but in west texas if i were to have to make a torch i would use the native evergreen trees/bushes that are everywhere around here. Also if you are around where there are mesquite trees, you can eat the mesquite bean outsides, also if you catch them when they are kinda red they taste like apple sauce. A+vid

  • i ment to say the outside of the mesquite bean shell. kinda like eating the shell of a green bean, leaving the beans alone. i just wanted to clairfy that. a++++++++ vid 5 stars. ryan rocks

  • The Knots or where the branches enter the tree is very saturated with resin. You can only harvest them from dead decaying pine trees. And still the branches will be hard to remove from the tree, even after it has started to rot. Be safe and be a good woodsman. Respect the land and leave no trace. Thats the best way. Jet over and out

  • Thanks Jetfuel, Great explanation. It sounds like if all these conditions were in your favor it would work good.

  • Great video dude, Got to love birch bark, stuff is magic. The last time i brought a friend hiking I showed him some fire making skills. for my tinder I was using birch bark and this stuff will light with a flint. Once it caught my buddy goes did you put gas on that, Lol. Like I said its magic.

What rt4mf is refering to is called Pine Knots. You need to have a fire to get one burning but once they are light they glow for a long time.

  • thanks, couldn think at the time wat they were called,(",)

  • Good Stuff Ryan. Gonna have to try this next time I come across a dead white birch.

Like you didnt know I was gonna do this,

    5 Stars....

  • Thanks Man

  • I hope you picked up your multi tool that you dropped by the log.

  • You scared me, I got It. I just checked my gear. Good Eyes! I checked each area after filming there, but theres so many leaves, it would be easy to loose something like that. Thanks

  • Nice video, btw nice knive and gloves.

  • Great vid.

Also very thoughtful and responsible of you to stress fire safety and wilderness conservation when practising these skills.

    Cheers.

  • Yeah It's important to stress those points since this video will be viewd by a mass audience. Thanks Sage

  • another way,is a fallen or broken pine tree branch, break the branch off so u get like a bulb at the end, that should be the bit thats in the tree,if u put it on a fire it glows n it can stay alight 4 days!ill do a vid,if ne1 didn understan.again great vid (",)

  • Great Suggestion. Thanks for sharing. I've never tried it but it sounds like it'd be excellent. Thanks :)
