  • same concept for all automatics?

  • How often do you have to polish the feeding ramp dude? is just one time job or is required after some time or number of shoots?

    Thank you

  • @Keysforge 1 time is all you really need.. I do like to buff it up after a couple thousand rounds but that is probably not even necessary.

  • FOCUS!! FOCUS!!!!

    Good info man.

  • Have you polished the ramp of your Bulgarian Makarov? Have you ever experienced any feeding problems with yours? I have one too and I was wondering if you recomend polishing the ramp for that pistol. Thanks Dietzeeeee!

  • @titocarrollton I never had feeding issues on my Bulgarian makarov before I polished it. I shot about 500 round through it and then polished it. I can tell it feeds with more ease now but i probably could have gotten away with not polishing it. As long as you do it right polishing the feed ramp of a semi auto pistol can only help performance.

  • Can you do a review on Para Ord P-13 Limited? If yes, when? Thanks!

  • Skip to 1:07 for the actual video

  • @meema1 Just trying to get people pumped up. A video with just a bunch of talk can get dull sometimes.

  • @Dietzeeeee Solid video, man. Thanks! :)

  • o cool i have a cz70 calibered in 32 acp

  • wow that was good.

  • Great video. I was actually about to do this to my gun. I have a Hi-Point S&W .40, two of them actually, but one was machined so poorly from the factory that it jams due to catching on the feed ramp. I've never done this before, and was surprised when Google actually finished my search for me, and had this as its top result just from typing in "feed ramp". Thought I was going to have to actually do some work to find a decent source of info.

  • As a substitute for the dremel and buffing wheel/compound, do you suppose that 2000-40 000 grit diamond sword polishing sheets would work? They're about 1 x 2" rectangles that I was going to order to mirror polish a few of my knives (the sheets are meant for katanas).

  • @BakaLord123 that should work but 1,000 grit or 1,500 grit would pobably work just fine. I have no idea how much the other stuff would cost. I know when I worked in the machine shop diamond files and diamond compound were very expensive.

  • hey good video, question? the grease compound is what u used to polish the feeding ramp with right? and if you dont have the buffing tool what else do you use to polish the feeding ramp?. thanks

  • @pretend2 Yes I used the compound. If you do not have a buffing wheel or dremel tool you can skip the mirror finish and just lightly sand out the machine marks and just a higher grit paper. You will still make your feed ramp feed better you might not get as good as a shine as you would with a buffing wheel and compound.

  • hey good video, question? the grease compound is what u used to polish the feeding ramp right? and if you dont have the buffing tool what else do you use to polish the feeding ramp?. thanks

  • Informative. Yet a video that was focused on the subject (not the background) and more stable would have helped greatly.

Sorry, but I'm a photographer who also does some detailed gun smithing etc.

  • Good vid man thanks

  • Great vids! Love the vantage point!

  • Where did you get that block of that grease compound? Do you think that is something that my local home depot will carry?

  • @Painkiller9013 you can get it online at brownells. I think any good hardware store should carry buffing compound.

  • wow, no way am i taking sand paper to a perfectly good feed ramp. to Polish a feed ramp is just that, Polishing!.... Pencil eraser, cotton rag/tshirt and some mothers polish and you have a mirror finish. Repeat every 2k rds or so

  • That first shot of an older Colt Commercial? Sights look like the early WWI-era style.

  • @MrFrancisxslaughtery auto ordinance take a look at my m1911 tribute its featured in that video.

  • i have had a feed problem on my 1911 since i bought it no matter what magazine i used, i just did this tutorial and its loading like a charm, thanks so much man!!!

  • Great video tutorial on this project. Thanks for taking the time to share and post.

  • Thanks man, this video helped because i wasnt sure what to use to polish it

  • Is polishing the inside of the chamber risky? I've seen it recommended as part of doing a feedramp job.

  • @RainmanE350 I know polishing the top of the chamber of a 1911 is recomended since the nose of the bullet will hit that part of the chamber... You want to use a very high grit mild compound if you do this. If you change the dimensions of the chamber that is bad... but shining it up just a little bit is not harmful at all.

  • After how many rounds do u repeat the process or is it a one time deal

  • @wafflelow Pretty much a one time deal. I guess after a couple thousand rounds you can buff it up again to get the shine back but really your just trying to get rid of the machine marks in the feed ramp and make it as smooth as possible, once those machine marks are gone they are gone for good.

  • quick question, where can you get that polishing compound? i'm bout to get a cheap 380 from a buddy (i'm not serious shooter so its a hi point) but i have a dremel and all that so these are my first plans, as a result of what i've heard bout hi points jams

  • @gannman51 I think brownells the website sells some.

  • @gannman51 I've heard of people using a quality polishing compound, such as Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish

  • @velocityhead oh sweet, i've got sum of that for my car. i've already polished it now, but i've also only put 50 round through it, only jam was when i +1 on the clip, idk if that was y or not....

  • Man that High Power made my dick hard : )

  • I think some people jump to the conclusion that when their pistol is not feeding correctly that they need to polish the feed ramp, you can actually make it feed worse if you take too much metal off (which you warned against). I thought I needed to polish the feed ramp on my 1911 to make it feed better but in reality I just needed a new magazine, I bought a wilson combat 8 rounder and it fixed the problem.

  • @jasondukebaird On a 1911 there are many factors on reliable feeding... feed ramp being polished, extractor claw tension not being to much and the claw being polished, having a powerful enough recoil spring, ammunitino shape and over all length ( FMJ of course being the most forgiving ) and of course as you mentioned magazines are very very important.

  • Dietz, thanks for the video. I have all of the tools required (Minus the sandpaper and compound). I was wondering if I used my Dremel tool with the buffing wheel can I use Rubbing Compound, the kind you use on cars to polish the feed ramp? If not where can I purchase the proper compound. I am dying to buy a Hi-Point JHP .45 but I was to feed cheap Russian surplus, if I have issues I am going to use your method to see if it solved any unforeseen feeding issues.

  • Just did this on my Hi Point 9mm. I used 800 grit though, and a dremel with jewelers rouge. Came out great....polished like a mirror. I used the pencil eraser technique with the sandpaper. Just picked up a Taurus PT-92 and was happy to see the ramp was already polished from the factory. Thanks for the video.

  • hello, i have a new ruger that sometimes fails to feed the 1st round when i pull back and release the slide(slide doesnt go foward). ive come to the conclusion that the cause is the magazines as the last round is almost impossible to push into the mag by hand...ive pushed on the bullet when its in and it takes alot of force to just push the bullet out of the mag. the gun hasnt even been fired yet,so its not residue. would it be ok to wipe down the mag interior with a tiny bit of break free clr?

  • @salamagogo Clean and lube as needed I would actually keep the magazine fully loaded to help break in that spring since it seems to actually have too much tension.

  • Would 400 grit work?

  • @armypenguin yes but I would finish up with a higher grit and lower grit will remove metal faster so use care when doing so.

  • @Dietzeeeee thanks dude can't find any 600 grit unless I go to a hardware store which isn't near.

  • What else could you use other than a dremel tool? Ive herd you can use a que tip. But what would you recommend?

  • @SkullKing11841 I guess in theory you could use a que tip but it would take a very very long time. just sanding it with the 600 grit and a pencil earaser is a good start.

  • @Dietzeeeee Instead of that grease compound stuff, can we use the lubing oil to polish the ramp?

  • My Taurus Pt-145 came with a mirror finish right out of the box. Thanks for the vid.. I will try this on another one of my pistols.. Have dremel-will polish.

  • The beginning of this video is so fucking inspiring, Jesus Christ thank you.

  • Teva sandals?

  • Im with jimbrady, best to remove the barrel for polish, on models where feed ramp and barrell are two parts. My usp9 has it as one piece.

  • @HKMadness Yes, I would have had the barrel on my example gun ( CZ-70 ) not been perminantly pinned to the frame. Had this been say a 1911, it would have been more work to try and polish it while it was attacthed to the frame in fact it would have looked sort of retarded. Unfortunately all my other pistols had their feed ramps polished so I waited on my CZ-70 before polishing it to make a video.

  • @TolitsPussyMagnet You feed it like cci minimag fmj ammo?

  • I like 32 ACP

  • is it just me, or does this sound like christian slater?

  • @djgrooveline Jesus your like the 20th person to say that.... LOL I promise you I am not him

  • @Dietzeeeee Good lord i think Mobsters movie when you had the 1911 and your christian slaters twin haha

  • @djgrooveline lmfao it does sound like christian slater

  • Is this man talking about polishing brand new guns,or just guns with alot of firing time? I just looked at my Springfield XD-9 and Taurus 24/7 pro and the ramps look polished already.

  • @demmylowther mostly surplus guns... Does your feed ramp have a mirror finish... I bet not.

  • Why in the world would you work on the feed ramp with the barrel still in the gun?

  • @jimbrady1776 because the barrel is permenatly pinned to the frame in that pistol along with many other small calber semi auto pistols.

  • @jimbrady1776 I believe that particular pistol has a fixed barrel.

  • did the intro make anyone else think of Call of Duty??? lol

  • What happened to the other reviews?

  • why a #2 pencil?

  • @LRooster4Prez LOL you could really use anything... I almost had a slip up where I was thinking about back when I was in school how you could only use #2 pencils on scan tron tests... yeah it was a blooper that never got edited out LOL.

  • @LRooster4Prez sorry I was the jackass in class that would catch the teacher with stuff like that. Then call them on it. Other than that the video was very good

  • what gun is that haha

  • @TheTreadstone22 The gun I demonstrated on was a CZ-70 in 32 auto

  • I did it the poor man way with a little bit of Mothers hag wheel polish.

  • what type of "grit compound" are you using?

    I found several different types.

Also do you shine the rails ?

  • @frankgon4 I leave the rails alone. I do not know off hand what type of compound it is all I know is it was a high grit compound that brownells sells.

  • Good video, but in the future, can you PLEASE take some time to work on your camera's focusing? All the detail of what you were working on or talking about was completely out of focus, whereas the background clutter was sharp and clear. Either try manual focus or set the focus area to the center of the frame.

  • @silvermediastudio my camera sucks at close up anything peroid... I have tried everything and someday when I get a better camera I may redo this video will see.

  • @Dietzeeeee Roger that. As I said, the information/narration/demo was all solid. I have a little Canon point-n-shoot camera, the Powershot SD780 IS digital elph, in addition to 12MP sensor, does some excellent HD video at 30fps, and has a macro mode for close up detail. They can be had around $60. No manual mode for photos, either automatic or program, but with good lighting the images are quite good.

  • great video , cci makes some awesome ammo . i have an old semi auto .22 , and thats all it wants to shoot .

  • Man guns are the cause of all the violence in America!! HAAAAAA HA HA HA!!!! If you think I actually believe that I got a bridge to sell you. LOL! Nice vid thanks for the info :-)

  • @mattxr2i LOL the funny thing is I usually get the " you know nothing I know everything your a stupid poo poo face " line long before I get the "guns are evil" line... LOL Glad you liked it. I really notice a differance on feeding when I give the feed ramp a good shine.

  • @Dietzeeeee Yeah, I'll be doing the old "fluff and buff" on my RIA 1911 here soon. I'm having slight issues with feeding hollowpoints. No actual failures yet though. I just notice after I chamber one and then eject it the bullet is actualy slightly pushed into the casing. Not a huge big deal but somewhat annoying.

  • @mattxr2i 1911 are known for doing that. You want to make sure your ammo has a good firm crimp on it before feeding it into a 1911. but I know exactly what you are talking about. Thats why I like to handload my own because I can crimp it just right for a 1911.

  • 30 minutes of sanding....

you realize that if you remove too much material you will ruin the barrel and if you shoot it without knowing you will guppy belly all your brass

  • @Beermetoo Yes it usually only takes a few minutes... I rarely have a barrel that takes that long a slip up on my part. All you want to do is remove the machine marks there is not really a need to polish the inside of the chamber at all.

  • anyone competent in using a dremel shouldn't have a problem.

  • @skiendog Yes it really is hard to screw this job up LOL even for a beginner.

  • Thank you for the tips Dietzeee...but I actually have a non-gun related question....Where do you get your EPIC MUSIC for these videos? Because I would enjoy listening to it : P

  • @atrician I got that music from command and conquer generals Its a computer game LOL.... I try to find music that is not owned by WMG because there is a good chance your video will be muted.

  • i'll save you a lot of time... use a fine-grit dremel sander for the sanding job..

  • @skiendog I just like that methood because its slower and much harder to mess anything up... I am sure with more experiance I would be able to do that and not worry about slipping and messing anything up.

  • @skiendog There's a risk to that - A gentleman on another forum I watch recently screwed up with his dremel on a feed-ramp, and ground a divot out. The sandpaper and eraser method is slower, but much safer.

  • @skiendog

Don't use a Dremel tool. When polishing, you need to do it slowly and a little bit at a time.

Polishing may entail the actual removal of metal from the feed ramp. The problem with a Dremel is that it's easy to take away too much metal rather quickly.

Take too much metal away and you can alter the feed ramp angle and clearance, which will negatively impact feeding performance, making the pistol unreliable.

Repair of such damage is costly as it is difficult to perform correctly.

  • @Watcher3223

Do you think that Dremels only come with one tool?

  • @skiendog

Considering that it only takes ONE mistake to ruin the feed ramp with a Dremel tool, regardless of its attachment, I still stand by my contention.

Are you willing to risk destroying your gun just to save some time? I'd rather take the time and make sure it's done RIGHT.

You can go too far with polishing if you're aiming to make it LOOK shiny as opposed to just making it FEEL smooth.

  • If you're removing material, it can be very easy to remove too much with a Dremel, risking the feed ramp angle. Alter the angle and you GUARANTEE it won't feed reliably with ANYTHING.

And, if you make a mistake with the tool and put a ding or nick in the ramp, that's more work you've got to do.

  • @skiendog

With a botched polish job where too much metal was removed from the receiver feed ramp, there are only three options.

    1. Weld new metal and reshape the ramp to the correct specifications in angle and clearance.

    2. Cut away material in the receiver to accommodate a barrel with an integrated feed ramp.

    3. Scrap the pistol and get a new one.

  • I'm making a vid on polishing my knob but they won't let me post it here...

  • Life as a plastic bottle ain't easy. 1st somebody sucks the fluid out of you and as thanks you get shot up...life ain't fair.

  • Poor lawn XD, nice video!

  • @jjk1224 Yeah that shooting range has been used a lot... Glad you liked the video.

  • hi man!,im planning to buy that dremel tool too, do u remember how much did u pay for it?thanks again.

  • @dozzy000 I want to say 50-70 but that was at least 5 years ago at walmart... It could be more due to inflation

  • @Dietzeeeee for that much, you can get a really nice set with it.

  • @skiendog yeah mine came with a good amount of cutting wheels and other wheels and tips for the dremel.

  • Thank you! Nice video review.

  • @Aonexia glad you liked it.

  • worked like a charm

  • @gtrdriven I am hoping to get more videos out on how to do easy improvments to pistols.

  • The feeding ramp has been polished to a mirror sheen! =D

  • Awesome detailed video thanks for the upload. If you do more in the future, subscribed.

  • @mrfiux Thanks. I am glad you liked it. I am hoping to have some free time this summer and hopefully the snow will go away and I will be able to crank out some more reviews.

  • thank you this has been very informative.

  • @eviloldskool glad you liked it !

  • thanks for the video man, i wanna polish mine too :)

  • @dozzy000 All my semi auto pistols have a polished feed ramp and you can feel the differance when you rack a around how smoothly the round goes into battery.

  • i have a doubt though, where can i get the high grit compound?? is it like a soap?

  • @dozzy000 It does almost have the consistancy of soap. You can get it from brownells web site. you can also probably get it from a good hardware store as well... anything that sells a good revarity of metal working tools should have buffing compound as well.

  • like that video - now i know what do 2 make my gun workin better - gd idea 2 show that polishin

    thx

  • @energygreen84 Glad you liked it. I want to get a video out on how to polish your extractor claw when i get a chance.

  • i just took a rag and put flitz on it and rub the feedramp on my kimber hope that works

  • @jtmoney606 A kimber shouldn't have very deep machine marks on the feed ramp so yeah... that should probably do the trick.

  • Great video. Nice tips. I did this on my .45.

  • Hey bro, great video. and just a heads up, ive got a 40 cal sigma and have put close to 2000 rounds threw it. It has only jammed on me once and that was in the first 100 rounds....first day i got it. I bought a couple boxes of MagTech and they wouldnt even feed. Took it in to the place i bought the ammo, field stripped it and showed them the rounds didnt even fit the barrel. the manager had been there 3 years and i got his first ever approvel for an ammo refund. Careful with MagTech ammo

  • @Jonnyirish79 NO kidding. WOW.... This was 40 S&W... well I havent had a problem yet I only have a few boxs of it. I plain to reload the rounds. I am guessing perhaps the didn't size the casings correctly for the manufactor or they werent seated deep enough... Perhaps a bad Lot... I have had factory ammo fail on me. Once with winchester white box 45 acp primmer failure even after multipule strikes and S&B 9mm Makarov squibed a JACKET no lead in the bullet just a jacket....

  • @Dietzeeeee This is why I handload most of my pistol ammo... as reliable as factory ammo is, when you handload and take your time you know what you got and have no suprises...

  • Thansk for this Video man. I have exactly the same model, exept mine is a Walther PP gas pistol. But i didn't really know how to do that cause the barrel is not removeable. So you helped me alot.

  • @Flakkkaw Sure thing. Glad it helped !

  • Where can you get metal polishing compound and supplies? Let me know ok? Also, what about polishing the tipover area at the top of the ramp and chamber + feed lips?

  • I don't generally polish the feed lips on magazines... at the top of the ramp I lightly blend it in to the chamber I generally do not sand this area that I leave to the buffer wheel.

Check out brownells they have many gunsmith supplies in cluding compounds for polishing.

  • Please give your opinion on the cmmg kit. I own both, the kit and the same ammo. Got a bad one. Talked first hand with cmmg and they actually told me to do the mods myself. Really?! No shit! I want your opinion. If you don't believe me, I have the guys name who I spoke with at cmmg. Maybe you could get some answers. Thanks!

  • whats wrong with the kit... feeding, failure to fire, failure to eject extract ? and did you get it through brownells or directly from CMMG ?

As for my CMMG conversion kit it works great with CCI mini mag ammo.

  • Hey,

you don´t have to make it that difficult(rouge and stuff)!

what you need is wet and dry paper of different grits 60-1000 and and make a "mirror shine" on the ramp, and Bob´s your uncle!! It worked perfectly on my 1911A1 made in ´43 it shoots like a dream up to 140 yards.

  • I do not have an uncle named bob... but yeah you can work you way up from a lower grit if you want I was just trying to keep it simple sticking with one type of sand paper.

  • Sorry about Bob´s your uncle it is a british term meaning " and there ya go"!!

  • LOL yeah I am a bit behind on the British slang.

  • What´s the hangfire?

  • well a hangfire is a noticable delay between between pulling the trigger and the gun firing.

  • Sorry ´bout this too! It should have been written; What about the hangfires? Or where you that fast on the trigger?

  • Thanks for posting this video, I had done some work on a Browning HP that I had feed issue's with but it still wasn't 100 percent reliable so I polished out the feed ramp and now it feeds everything I have with no problems.

I got the white polishing compound that Sears sells and it worked great.

  • Nice I am glad my video helped save the day. I will be coming out with a video on out to polish the extractor claw if i ever find a shred of free time. that will even help more.. but its true you can feel the difference when that ramp is polished it just "wants" to feed.

  • i need to polish the ramp on my taurus pt140pro. It has terrible horizontal feedmarks on the feedramp, and will jam on any cartridge with an OAL of 1.13" or more. This is the high side of .40S&W OAL, but many manufacturers toe that line for some reason.

Need to find some rouge.......where is the best place to buy it ?

  • tool marks, not feedmarks. sorry.

  • Or as I like to call machine marks.... Same thing.... I get my polishing compound from brownells. You want a very very high grit compound. Hope this helps with your feeding issues. another thing to check.... Make sure your extractor claws does not have a burr on it or is scuffing the rims of your casings. That could be another reason for failure, If so you may need to polish the extractor claw as well. I will have to make a videos on that too down the road.

  • i like your vids. very instructional, useful, self-reliant and you cut to the damn point, some vids out there just yak yak and more yak.

  • I am to busy to yak a lot. I really do just try and bang out the important talking points. If you want demension and stuff like that you can google it. I am just trying to get the info out that you really can't just look up.

  • I have been polishing for a living for 12 years now .you need to put some wd40 on the sand paper it will last twice aslong and cut the time in half. good choice in 600 i like black ice paper myself, but it is expensive .black rouge is normally a better ruffing compound . I think it is inportant for you to make videos like this for the guys in the garage. there don't seem to be many videos like this.I should try to put up videos like this to help out like Dietzeeeee good work

  • yeah if your paper starts to get loaded up with metal and turns a greyish color WD 40 helps alot. I just hate getting WD 40 near my guns when it evaporates it can leave behind mositure which equals rust, but if you clean up well after using WD 40 then you should be fine.

  • like the video. the compound is called rouge

  • Yeah I forget what type I was using. I have used all sorts the grease type, greaseless, the stuff that comes in a syringe, and diamond compound.

  • Thanks Bro~ This was a reminder to polish off a couple of new aquisitions. Good Stuff~

  • Thanks ! ! ! It is good to hear such good feed back from a fellow gun reviewer.

  • COME ON DAMN IT MORE VIDS!!! Interested to see what you have to say on the Browning Hi Power. Just got one of those myself.

Great vid. Polished a few feed ramps myself and its a good idea if it looks rough. Might just end any feeding problems too.

  • feed ramp is just half the battle. Then you have to polish your extractor claw and the bottum of your slide where the slide rubs against the round in the top of the magazine. then your polished up...

I will get the videos out when I can I am working a full time job and going to school full time... I still don't know how I even have time to sleep.

  • Well, instead of sleep, vids :) I know what you mean though. I haven't had much time lately to do much in the way of vids, or tinkering with a few of my guns. At least I am all caught up on shooting them all. Keep em coming when you can!

  • Anyone wanting to do anything DIY(guns or not) show a dremel. Great vid.

  • Thanks Glad you liked it. I am hoping to get more do it yourself videos out on improving reliability one semi auto pistols.

  • How do you like your CZ-70? I got a guy who wants to sell me one for $160 is that a good deal?

  • I like it so far. The mag release takes some practice. to get used to. So does the safety but the safety is good. Ummm... I really like the feel in my hand. Good size and wieght. I bit bulky for a 8 shot 32 caliber, but I think it will have little recoil so it will be a fun little gun to shoot. So far I don't see any reason it wouldnt cycle FMJ reliably. I just need to get out and shoot it. Oh I love the trigger reset it is short and the trigger pull on single action is pretty good.

  • I like your AR-15 too. I seem to prefer the m16A2 setup more than the typical m4 style.

  • I would have to agree with you I like the longer barrel. Although I could see the M4 being a better set up indoors but when accuracy counts I love the 20 inch barrel.

  • FOCUS!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Music sounds like its from the first rainbow six.

  • It is from the game command and conquer generals but it does sound alot like the Tom Clancy Rainbow Six music.

  • thanks for the video!

  • No problem

  • Great Job love the vids.

  • Thanks.
