  • They've definitely completed their dream.

  • What is wrong with Tommy's eye?

  • @thisiskenney The better question is what's wrong with our eyes that make them not look like Tommy's?

  • CARGO FUCKING SHORTS STOP IT

  • I get what everyone loves so much about colors. I like the great misdirect and the ep way more.

  • "we're actually gonna do an EP"

    hypersleep DIALOGUESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Doesnt paul sound like kenny powers?

  • @shaefnutz kenny powers is from north carolina..

  • Waggoner and Richardson are so goddamn talented.

  • pause at 1:11 hahaha...i love tommy

  • @theflavasava2 whats the new prog wave haha

  • i love these guys. paul called me a motherfucker once. i was honored.

  • Redo some Dream Theater songs with a better singer and maybe some screams. That would make my life.

  • between the burrrrrrayed and meiiiiiiiii

  • I just realized how much Paul looks like Jon Krasinski (Jim) from the Office with long hair and a beard

  • Poor Paul, he's barely gettin a word in edgewise...

  • 1:37 he says FUCK YOU we don't get stale with our sound, we change with each record, lol.

  • I was disappointed that Prequel to the Sequel wasn't full.

  • art for arts sake. i love it!

  • Tommy needs to rap on the next full length.

  • these guys are musician gods.

  • colors 2 kind of sounds like a cool concept...most movies have sequels why not more albums?

  • I freaking love these guys.

  • at 1:38 tommy flips off the camera lol

  • Ive been to 2, going to my 3rd show in December. and oh my god, i know its something they probably wouldnt do; but i would die a peaceful death if they played Blackened live. . . that is at a show id be at.

  • A Type O Negative cover would be brilliant.

  • I saw them live together with Animals as Leaders... it was the best night of my life.

  • @TheWezel1995 ahhh im seeing them next month i cant wait

  • If they ever DID cover George Michael's 'Careless Whisper' (like they said they might do in some other interview) I would probably die from knowing about a band with such greatness.

  • They should do a Doors cover. Thatd be some sickk shit.

  • @KDF10580 they were considering People are Strange for there "...Anatomy of" cd. But it unfortunately didnt make it. I totally agree, it would have been perfect.

  • I think because Colors was such a dramatic turn in style from their previous albums that it gets held on such a pedestal. I'm NOT trying to say that Colors isn't an amazing album (because it definitely is), only that if Great Misdirect came out before Colors, most people would still prefer Great Misdirect when Colors comes out.

  • These guys are the beatles of heavy metal.

  • Man i hate interviewers, they never ask the questions i want them to ask.

  • A ten minute performance video would put anybody to sleept? It would not put me to sleep. I guess I am not anybody.

  • @ObscureAlchemist Well idk about you but watching a performance video would be boring cuz it's just the track played over a video of them playing. Live is a different story though haha

  • Great Misdirect seems kinda like one piece of music, it just has Desert of Song in the middle.

  • The next RUSH

  • i saw a doors shirt on tommy

  • They totally did an EP. They did the fuck out of an EP

  • wasn't Informal Gluttony on Headbanger's Ball? X)

  • @MrDudeface23 How could it be if there wasn't a video for it?

  • @nonzerobeast maybe im trippin then. didnt know there had to be a video.

  • dream theater cover?

  • As a huge post-rock fan, I love longer songs.

  • I want to start off by saying that at first i thought they had "hicky" accents.

I also want to make it clear that they're from the same state as me...

  • @ShredWithMe Are you from the east of NC as well? I tell people I'm from the south then ALL OF A SUDDEN i have an accent

  • guitar hero is pretty cool

  • After hearing these guys for a few years, 5 minute songs seem sort to me.

  • lolwut

  • This was an awesome interview. Good questions that received good answers.

    Respect.

  • Oh man, please do an ELP cover, would be amazing

  • I would love to hear BtBaM do When You're Strange, it's such a great song.

  • ..now, artists are just a category on itunes, so fuck off with that whole sell out bullshit because you know damn well they didn't sell out!

  • k to set it straight.. beatles and pink floyd are the furthest things from "sell outs". First off, back when both bands were at their creative peak, they were selling so many albums to begin with, that the fact they made movies and sold other shit was soully for their fans and the love of what they do. Two, back then, things like Apple and MTV either didn't exist, or if it did, then it definately kicked ass and was at least bearable to watch. Back then, artists were artists..

  • Obfuscation was playing at the very end of the video, but sounded very strange. It sounded muffled and almost 8-bit with a non-electronic drum kit.

  • This is a band that has survived over a decade. In pop music how many artist from 2000-2001 do you still hear from? not very many. You dont need to be famous or be super rich or appear on tv and radio to be one of the greatest bands of our generation. You just need 5-6 guys with the same mentality to write great music for the love of music. Not for money or fame.

  • good interviewer

  • 7:24

  • Whats up im Paul

    and im Thommy

Were from the band Between the Buried and me

and we are the geniuses of the new prog wave

  • @theflavasava2 lol i think they've extended past the mere title of geniuses probably more like demi-gods.

  • i want opeth to have a ten minute video like these guys do

  • Come to my house and watch me shred "Obfuscation." Expert Guitar hahahaha

  • Words can't express how stoked I would be to hear these dudes do a Type O Negative song and an Emerson Lake song.

  • What did they do after this interview? They went home and wrote a masterpiece, The Parallax. It would be pretty fuckin awesome to be that talented.

  • Love the EP, they mentioned

  • Tommy looks stoned as fuck

  • Is Tommy's hair really going gray or is it just the lighting?

  • @terryk1233 I'm pretty sure it's just the lighting. The "gray" spot seems to move around whenever he moves his head.

  • Between the Buried and Me should produce a movie like Pink Floyd and The Beatles did.

  • @bigthunk no they dont need to be sell outs stick to what they do best making awesome music

  • @WarpedGuy28 Wow. You should get your ass kicked for calling Pink Floyd and The Beatles sell outs.

  • @bigthunk Paul said it best: "... For a band like us we never really thought a video would help." They should never do a movie like Pink Floyd or the Beatles.

  • @85zeitgeist Yes. "We never really thought" Keyword. "THOUGHT" ...doesn't necessarily disqualify the idea as being a damn good one.

  • @bigthunk Like sell out? nah

  • @bigthunk And after that, Guitar Hero: BTBAM.

  • @bigthunk I've been saying that for the longest time.

  • paul waggoner is jesus

  • Amazing band!...Propper cool guys aswel!!

    BTBAM Rule!!

  • This band sounds like no other band I've ever heard. You simply can't say that BTBAM sounds like ANY other progressive metal band. Their sound is incredibly unique and when you do sit down and pay attention to a full album (cause sometimes its hard not to zone out), it's a truly thrilling journey.

  • @Skataelan look up collisions in grey and red, they are a lot alike

  • why would you complain about longer songs?? BTBAM to dope to only play under 8 minutes

  • Possibly the most talented group of musicians on the earth.

  • 6:11-6:15 Dan's a BEAST

  • BTBAM should get Wes Richardson to do a video for them!

  • lol 1:36 FUCK YOU TOO!

  • HOLY CRAP at 2:28 Blake has long hair. He's always had short hair!!!

  • He said they wanted to make another cover CD.... PLEASE DO! haha, I would love to see it.

  • I fucking love these guys. I just started listening to them this past summer when my cousins put The Great Misdirect in and I fell in love immediately. I never thought there would be a 17 minute song that would keep my attention, but these guys are so fantastic that I sat completely focused on the music the whole time. Marry me, BTBAM.

  • @auwekama hahaha yeah i cant stand 3 minute songs all my favorite bands have 12 minute songs haha

  • You listen to BTBAM and you've listened to like 37 different types of music in one album. It's great

  • You know, I truly love bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. Without a shadow of a lie, the greatest bands in existence, and I love them to death. But we have a new generation of metal heads and gods forming, Bands like Scale The Summit, Trivium, Between The Buried And Me, and such.

You know, maybe I'm wrong. But...I think metal is collectively...Just the most amazing genre in musical existence.

  • They seem to share all of my influences including King Crimson and Alice In Chains.

  • they are easily the modern beethoven in a band form

  • They should do a movie like The Who did with Tommy.

  • paul waggoner kinda sounds like seth rogan. just saying.

  • I really appreciate the level of maturity this band has as musicians and as people. There are plenty of bands whose music I love but I can't stand how immature they act during interviews and while they are playing live.

  • this bands music is EPIC!

  • that's right....NO DISLIKES!

  • Between the Buried and Me is the only band that can have a 14 minute song or a 17 minute song and keep it interesting the whole time. BTBAM has been my favorite band since I first heard them. BTBAM for LIFE! Keep blowing peoples minds, some people just cant appreciate true beauty in music, but that is not me.

  • Their songs ARE too long. I appreciate their technicallity and progressive nature but a lot of their songs just drag on and on and others feel like they TRIED to make long, and lack content. Their old stuff was amazing, but I just can't get into Colors. TGM is good though. This is coming from the eyes of someone with ADHD though, so each to his own.

  • @Beenyad

Don't listen to colors as songs. start from the beginning and listen to it to the end. It's one piece of music and I think should be listened to as such. It is my favorite record ever written.

  • @distantplanetTrance the great misdirect is better in my opinion

  • @Beenyad Thats no excuse, I have major ADHD and I can listen to Between the Buried and Me all day..I can respect your view, but I'm just saying.

  • I get up earlier in the morning to walk a longer route to listen too colours one day, the great misdirect the next. Alaska is squeezed in there at times!

I wouldn't class myself as a die hard fan, but i'll definatley be sticking around untill the day i die.

  • 3 people-3 microphones. eliminates the confusion.

  • That is so true about all these coments.!!!!! Btbam is like the greatest band out there. I cant think any other band this musically talented.! I think they are my fav band.! Every of there songs are amazing and epic. Like the great misdirect you cant just listen to one song.! You gotta listen to the whole album non stop.!! They are fucken epic.!!!

  • Wow. Imagine this, but Dustie instead of Tommy. "Viewer discretion is advised"

  • I think this fuck was pissing Tommy off a bit. If you ever read other interviews of BTBAM they express their distaste for judgment based on how they write longer songs...which is what this was. 10:00 minutes of crying about song length.

  • Lol, fuck! A serious interview?

  • is it just me or does tommy look like he's tripping balls? and not just now, but also in the colors_live show especially. not to mention he comes out on stage practically going more psychotic than jim morrison at a doors show

  • i dont see why suicide silence is in the recommended video's list. suicide silence is some easy listening, but between the buried and me seriously tops them. hard.

i recently re-discovered between the buried and me, and their music stays in your head. when i go to bed, their music is still spinning in my head, man! it's insane, awesome, great!

  • @laurensDG Couldn't agree with you more. SS is not even in the same category as BTBAM. Try listening to Colors and then switch to anything made by SS. Disappointment will ensue.

  • Between The Buried and Me, the Beethoven's of this era!!! These guys are musical geniuses . I need to see them in concert!!!

  • Forever and always my guitar will be tuned to C# Standard...... <3

  • @levipearl2112 hell yesss!!

  • @levipearl2112 they also tune to Drop C# on some of their songs

  • @Draeku nope

  • @SOADchuchufan39 dude, colors live, after informal gluttoney they tune every string except the 6th up, only explanation: drop C#

  • @levipearl2112 i would love to ask them why c# standard. or is it unwise to question divinity

  • @BEGICFMP It's best not to question that which is set by gods

  • I want to know why these interviewers never ask these guys about the meaning of songs or the albums overall concept? I'd like to hear them talk about the great misdirect in better detail man GEEZUS!

  • funny thing is about the whole RB/GH thing is that all the bands love it, but all of their die-hard fans bitch about it.

  • Hell, I'd be fine with another Colors...

  • @Kurtplox you'd get bored bro. trust me.

  • Who decided it was okay to have the worst camera man of all time record the greatest band ever?

  • BTBAM is my favorite band and I honestly can't see how or why that would ever change. I can't foresee a band that I like more than them ever coming along. Simply astounding.

  • i love everything about these guys. They play INCREDIBLE music and theyre some of the most enjoyable dudes to be around in metal

  • hHahahah... The mic-swithcing in the beggining was hilarious!!

  • fuck all the shitty bands out there, btbam is the real shit!

  • It would be crazy if they covered yes or elp. I don't think Tommy could handle Keith's playing to tell you the truth.

  • Well, anybody who has OnDemand can watch the Obfuscation video on there. I just checked it out yesterday when surfing through the gazillion music videos that are on there. I mean, it is some exposure at least...for someone who's bored and just randomly checking out some bands or whatever.

  • I cans safely say i'll be listening to BTBAM for decades

  • @meatwad21121 will you listen to BTBAM for decades of statues?

  • One of the most down-to-earth bands out there.

  • Ironically I got into to BTBAM after I saw Alaska on Handbanger's Ball in '05.

  • I thought I couldn't love these guys any more than I already do, but what Paul says from 2:49 - 3:30 just amplified it a thousand-fold. They're here for the true music fans, not to be famous, not to make money. And what Tommy said right before that was great too. They don't plan out how an album is going to sound, they just write what comes to them. And that's the way it should be. Greatest fucking band ever!

  • This interviewer asks stupid questions.

  • I love this band so much. What a great interview too.

  • ....Please do Yes and ELP. Pleasey please.

  • They are amazing they should be bigger. August Burns Red says BTBAM is their biggest influence as a band

  • i fucking love this band!

  • tommy looks so aged

  • This was a really good interview.

if btbam covered an emerson lake an palmer/yes song, I would die and come back to life while listening to it.

  • I don't understand why they don't have more fans. They're one of the best bands around right now, in my opinion.

  • @schecter26guitarist

    They are

    THE

best band around right now. Hahahaha

  • @volcom621 I can't argue with that statement.

  • @volcom621 the best band in the history of planet

  • @FuCkInGWhItEcHaPeL

    100 % agreed.

  • @volcom621 haha thank you. it's so great to talk to people that listen to this band because anyone that does would agree that they're insanely talented, and their music is just fucking awesome

  • @schecter26guitarist Yea dude me neither, unfortunately there are just a lot of people who don't like screamo :/

  • @knelly1992 btbam is no way, shape or form of screamo. their progressive/hardcore.

  • @schecter26guitarist dude i agree man

  • @schecter26guitarist No kidding. People don't listen long enough, in my opinion. They just think BTBAM is like any other metal band but they are so much more than that, they have so many influences. Seeing them this month in Toronto, can't wait!

  • @SpRoAtMEALWiThMiLk So true. People don't have much of an attention span these days. Dude, I'm so jealous. If they come to Florida during this tour, I'm definitely going to go see them.

  • @schecter26guitarist They are coming to Williamsville, NY which is pretty damn close to me. The bad thing about it is, I'm not old enough to drive and NONE of my friends are into them. Lame. I don't like that Job For a Cowgirl is opening for them either. Don't deserve to share the same stage with them.

  • @ImNIClK Saaaame situation here. Yeah, nobody can compare to these guys. I wish they were still touring with Dream Theater. I would pay any amount in a heartbeat to see that.

  • @schecter26guitarist thats not opinion. that is a plain and simple fact.

  • @schecter26guitarist id like there to be more fans of BTBAM, but then again, i wouldnt really. when bands have too many fans, their music starts to get worse and worse (if anyone else noticed that pattern) and i dont want that to ruin their progressive spirit.

  • @HandShake44 That's true. I just want them to get more credit for what they do, because it's not fair that shitty "musicians" make millions off of some over produced piece of shit, and these guys make next to nothing compared to them. :/

  • @schecter26guitarist

very well put. i would have to agree with you on that

  • @schecter26guitarist a lot of ppl don't really understand music, lets just say there is a difference between liking music and loving music, ppl that say bad music and good music don't understand music cause music is all opinionated, but there is music for ppl which music talks to and they understand like BTBAM for example, its a hard to explain

  • i listen to Colors and The Great Misdirect all the way through, every day. No lie.

  • @jepsencody same her, dude. same here.

  • @jepsencody haha, nuts. I listen to them a lot also but I can't say every day...the awesomeness of BTBAM is pretty much off the charts tho. Once you press play and start either one of those records it's very difficult to pause it to do anything else, ha, ya know?

  • @jepsencody i do every day in spanish class then in geometry

  • @jepsencody i do too man.. playing left 4 dead while listening to colors is intense.. especially during the final stage when white walls comes on....

  • @GravesMetal

I love doing that. It's so awesome that their music does that unintentionally. It's kind of like PInk Floyd's album mixing with The Wizard of Oz almost perfectly.

  • @jepsencody i have all of their albums and i pretty much listen to all of them all the way through every day. haha
