Ive been to 2, going to my 3rd show in December. and oh my god, i know its something they probably wouldnt do; but i would die a peaceful death if they played Blackened live. . . that is at a show id be at.
If they ever DID cover George Michael's 'Careless Whisper' (like they said they might do in some other interview) I would probably die from knowing about a band with such greatness.
@KDF10580 they were considering People are Strange for there "...Anatomy of" cd. But it unfortunately didnt make it. I totally agree, it would have been perfect.
I think because Colors was such a dramatic turn in style from their previous albums that it gets held on such a pedestal. I'm NOT trying to say that Colors isn't an amazing album (because it definitely is), only that if Great Misdirect came out before Colors, most people would still prefer Great Misdirect when Colors comes out.
@ObscureAlchemist Well idk about you but watching a performance video would be boring cuz it's just the track played over a video of them playing. Live is a different story though haha
k to set it straight.. beatles and pink floyd are the furthest things from "sell outs". First off, back when both bands were at their creative peak, they were selling so many albums to begin with, that the fact they made movies and sold other shit was soully for their fans and the love of what they do. Two, back then, things like Apple and MTV either didn't exist, or if it did, then it definately kicked ass and was at least bearable to watch. Back then, artists were artists..
This is a band that has survived over a decade. In pop music how many artist from 2000-2001 do you still hear from? not very many. You dont need to be famous or be super rich or appear on tv and radio to be one of the greatest bands of our generation. You just need 5-6 guys with the same mentality to write great music for the love of music. Not for money or fame.
@bigthunk Paul said it best: "... For a band like us we never really thought a video would help." They should never do a movie like Pink Floyd or the Beatles.
This band sounds like no other band I've ever heard. You simply can't say that BTBAM sounds like ANY other progressive metal band. Their sound is incredibly unique and when you do sit down and pay attention to a full album (cause sometimes its hard not to zone out), it's a truly thrilling journey.
I fucking love these guys. I just started listening to them this past summer when my cousins put The Great Misdirect in and I fell in love immediately. I never thought there would be a 17 minute song that would keep my attention, but these guys are so fantastic that I sat completely focused on the music the whole time. Marry me, BTBAM.
You know, I truly love bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. Without a shadow of a lie, the greatest bands in existence, and I love them to death. But we have a new generation of metal heads and gods forming, Bands like Scale The Summit, Trivium, Between The Buried And Me, and such.
You know, maybe I'm wrong. But...I think metal is collectively...Just the most amazing genre in musical existence.
I really appreciate the level of maturity this band has as musicians and as people. There are plenty of bands whose music I love but I can't stand how immature they act during interviews and while they are playing live.
Between the Buried and Me is the only band that can have a 14 minute song or a 17 minute song and keep it interesting the whole time. BTBAM has been my favorite band since I first heard them. BTBAM for LIFE! Keep blowing peoples minds, some people just cant appreciate true beauty in music, but that is not me.
Their songs ARE too long. I appreciate their technicallity and progressive nature but a lot of their songs just drag on and on and others feel like they TRIED to make long, and lack content. Their old stuff was amazing, but I just can't get into Colors. TGM is good though. This is coming from the eyes of someone with ADHD though, so each to his own.
Don't listen to colors as songs. start from the beginning and listen to it to the end. It's one piece of music and I think should be listened to as such. It is my favorite record ever written.
I get up earlier in the morning to walk a longer route to listen too colours one day, the great misdirect the next. Alaska is squeezed in there at times!
I wouldn't class myself as a die hard fan, but i'll definatley be sticking around untill the day i die.
That is so true about all these coments.!!!!! Btbam is like the greatest band out there. I cant think any other band this musically talented.! I think they are my fav band.! Every of there songs are amazing and epic. Like the great misdirect you cant just listen to one song.! You gotta listen to the whole album non stop.!! They are fucken epic.!!!
I think this fuck was pissing Tommy off a bit. If you ever read other interviews of BTBAM they express their distaste for judgment based on how they write longer songs...which is what this was. 10:00 minutes of crying about song length.
is it just me or does tommy look like he's tripping balls? and not just now, but also in the colors_live show especially. not to mention he comes out on stage practically going more psychotic than jim morrison at a doors show
i dont see why suicide silence is in the recommended video's list. suicide silence is some easy listening, but between the buried and me seriously tops them. hard.
i recently re-discovered between the buried and me, and their music stays in your head. when i go to bed, their music is still spinning in my head, man! it's insane, awesome, great!
@laurensDG Couldn't agree with you more. SS is not even in the same category as BTBAM. Try listening to Colors and then switch to anything made by SS. Disappointment will ensue.
I want to know why these interviewers never ask these guys about the meaning of songs or the albums overall concept? I'd like to hear them talk about the great misdirect in better detail man GEEZUS!
BTBAM is my favorite band and I honestly can't see how or why that would ever change. I can't foresee a band that I like more than them ever coming along. Simply astounding.
Well, anybody who has OnDemand can watch the Obfuscation video on there. I just checked it out yesterday when surfing through the gazillion music videos that are on there. I mean, it is some exposure at least...for someone who's bored and just randomly checking out some bands or whatever.
I thought I couldn't love these guys any more than I already do, but what Paul says from 2:49 - 3:30 just amplified it a thousand-fold. They're here for the true music fans, not to be famous, not to make money. And what Tommy said right before that was great too. They don't plan out how an album is going to sound, they just write what comes to them. And that's the way it should be. Greatest fucking band ever!
@volcom621 haha thank you. it's so great to talk to people that listen to this band because anyone that does would agree that they're insanely talented, and their music is just fucking awesome
@schecter26guitarist No kidding. People don't listen long enough, in my opinion. They just think BTBAM is like any other metal band but they are so much more than that, they have so many influences. Seeing them this month in Toronto, can't wait!
@SpRoAtMEALWiThMiLk So true. People don't have much of an attention span these days. Dude, I'm so jealous. If they come to Florida during this tour, I'm definitely going to go see them.
@schecter26guitarist They are coming to Williamsville, NY which is pretty damn close to me. The bad thing about it is, I'm not old enough to drive and NONE of my friends are into them. Lame. I don't like that Job For a Cowgirl is opening for them either. Don't deserve to share the same stage with them.
@ImNIClK Saaaame situation here. Yeah, nobody can compare to these guys. I wish they were still touring with Dream Theater. I would pay any amount in a heartbeat to see that.
@schecter26guitarist id like there to be more fans of BTBAM, but then again, i wouldnt really. when bands have too many fans, their music starts to get worse and worse (if anyone else noticed that pattern) and i dont want that to ruin their progressive spirit.
@HandShake44 That's true. I just want them to get more credit for what they do, because it's not fair that shitty "musicians" make millions off of some over produced piece of shit, and these guys make next to nothing compared to them. :/
@schecter26guitarist a lot of ppl don't really understand music, lets just say there is a difference between liking music and loving music, ppl that say bad music and good music don't understand music cause music is all opinionated, but there is music for ppl which music talks to and they understand like BTBAM for example, its a hard to explain
@jepsencody haha, nuts. I listen to them a lot also but I can't say every day...the awesomeness of BTBAM is pretty much off the charts tho. Once you press play and start either one of those records it's very difficult to pause it to do anything else, ha, ya know?
I love doing that. It's so awesome that their music does that unintentionally. It's kind of like PInk Floyd's album mixing with The Wizard of Oz almost perfectly.
They've definitely completed their dream.

@schecter26guitarist thats not opinion. that is a plain and simple fact.

@schecter26guitarist id like there to be more fans of BTBAM, but then again, i wouldnt really. when bands have too many fans, their music starts to get worse and worse (if anyone else noticed that pattern) and i dont want that to ruin their progressive spirit.
HandShake44 9 months ago
@HandShake44 That's true. I just want them to get more credit for what they do, because it's not fair that shitty "musicians" make millions off of some over produced piece of shit, and these guys make next to nothing compared to them. :/

@schecter26guitarist
very well put. i would have to agree with you on that

@GravesMetal
I love doing that. It's so awesome that their music does that unintentionally. It's kind of like PInk Floyd's album mixing with The Wizard of Oz almost perfectly.

@jepsencody i have all of their albums and i pretty much listen to all of them all the way through every day. haha
