I don't get it. How in the span of 30 years or so does a film maker go from being able to have an actor being able to convey complex emotions from behind a mask to not being able for two unmasked actors to be able to convey any indication of being in love? What happened?

you know whats weird. ian mcdiarmond was only in his 30s when they made these movies but now hes in his late 60s and senator palpatine looks kinda like the emperor. also, thumbs up if you knew palpatine was the emperor the entire time while watching the prequels.

When I first saw the emperor using his Dark Side lighting power, I found it to be such a weak and useless thing for him to use for someone who looks old and deformed. But now I understand that it is powerful and deadly.
i just realized that episode one ends with a sith falling down a reactor shaft and episode six ends the same way lol, i discover if a reactor shaft is in the same room as a sith, they are done for
The most triumphant scene of the series is where you can't see Vader's face, but you can see the struggle he's going through, simply by how his head turns. The best part then comes where he lunges and swiftly lifts the Emperor off his feet. This is pure cinematic dynamite! I love it!
for anyone who does not know why this killed vader its because the emperors lighting shorted out his suits life support so he died, the suits the only thing keeping him alive. For me the best part of this scene is the music accompanying it.
@MAnnaconduit1 absolutly, we can bash the prequels till kingdom coems but the music of ALL the SW films is epic. I never thought about that explanation, it seems so obvious now, of course the lightning shorted out his suit and killed him bcos the suit couldn't keep him alive anymore

@concretedoor100 I don't think so. Palpatine was shocked at point blank range while Luke is getting shocked from a distance. Plus for Palpatine the electricity was directed at his face while the electricity is running throughout Luke's body.
So all of vader's conspiracies from training apprentices to kill him but failed to kill the emperor but throwing him down a hole worked, bet he wished he thought of that earlier.
I just wish they would have just expanded it a bit and had Vader have a little force battle with the Emporer rather then just throwing him down a hole.
@Kagekotsu For what point? Flashy violence? It would be unnecessary and it would take away too much from the emotion you're supposed to feel in this scene. Everything you need to know was conveyed in the simplest actions. Vader was redeemed and he made a decision to save his son rather than side with the Emperor. No flashy, boring, uninteresting, pointless battle was needed to convey that. Such is the language of cinema, something that the prequels don't understand.

Most of the action in the prequels did not advance the story along so much as just looked cool. When I first saw the emperor using his Dark Side lighting power, I found it to be such a weak and useless thing for him to use for someone who looks old and deformed. But now I understand that it is powerful and deadly.

The most triumphant scene of the series is where you can't see Vader's face, but you can see the struggle he's going through, simply by how his head turns. The best part then comes where he lunges and swiftly lifts the Emperor off his feet. This is pure cinematic dynamite! I love it!

for anyone who does not know why this killed vader its because the emperors lighting shorted out his suits life support so he died, the suits the only thing keeping him alive. For me the best part of this scene is the music accompanying it.

@MAnnaconduit1 absolutly, we can bash the prequels till kingdom coems but the music of ALL the SW films is epic. I never thought about that explanation, it seems so obvious now, of course the lightning shorted out his suit and killed him bcos the suit couldn't keep him alive anymore

@7009Rice Well it was a suprise attack and Palpatine was also being shocked by the force lightning so there was nothing he could do except pray that Vader would collapse while carrying him

@concretedoor100 I don't think so. Palpatine was shocked at point blank range while Luke is getting shocked from a distance. Plus for Palpatine the electricity was directed at his face while the electricity is running throughout Luke's body.

@Kagekotsu For what point? Flashy violence? It would be unnecessary and it would take away too much from the emotion you're supposed to feel in this scene. Everything you need to know was conveyed in the simplest actions. Vader was redeemed and he made a decision to save his son rather than side with the Emperor. No flashy, boring, uninteresting, pointless battle was needed to convey that. Such is the language of cinema, something that the prequels don't understand.

I'm not hating on the flashy violence, I'm hating on pointless flashy violence that does not move the story along but instead distracts from how bad the story is. Most of the action in the prequels did not advance the story along so much as just looked cool. People focused on how cool the battles looked instead of questioning "Wait, why do we have to leave Naboo?" "Because they are going to kill the Queen" "But she has to sign a treaty?"
