Same thing happened to me, we were fishing the ocean side of the north jetty of tillamook at barview. A whole storm of those exact guys were fishing the area. My first cast with a 5 oz pyramid with a whole sand shrimp came up with a pretty weird fight with a swimming bird. The best thing to do is get something to cover their eyes. They get completely calm after getting their eyes covered. I learned the pecky part of their scrawking and came out of the battle with some blood.
Poor critter, next time it happen try and constrain the bird as much as possible. Wrap it in a cloth or something, because they will cause more damage to themselves if they are allowed to flap around like that. Besides that the video was a little funny.

my uncle was fishing a popper when a goose that was taking off the water got it in the feather. The bird got away and gave us back the $8.99 lure....

that happened me with a seagull! oh my god.

when i got him off the hook, he was flying around the pier in circles. hahah cos of the hole in his wing. haha
