I first heard the song on The Rising and thought it was good but not great...Then I heard Johnny Cash's version and it really brought out the lyrics and the lyrical melody, I loved it...Then I heard this version and realized what a genius Bruce is at arranging his own music...
Upon watching this video, I have gained a whole new respect for the talent of Bruce Springsteen. I never realized his diversity in musical styles. You go Boss!!
Louis Armstrong sung it, it was way before him in...yep... the bible...believe it .. do not believe it.. you will hopely find out any way ,anywhere, anyhow: further up the road some will hurt you like you hurt me...ERIC CLAPTON!
@lekezenman: This is not the same song that Eric plays. It's the same title, but completely different lyrics and probably a different harmony too. The only thing the two songs have in common is the title. I don't know about Armstrong's version, though. This one was written by Bruce around 2001 or 2002, so I doubt Armstrong played it :)
This is a cool cover, but it def doesn't beat the original for me.

This is truly a modern classic. The song is dark and rocking. Made even Johnny Cash sing it on his death bed. Bless his soul. And bruce´s...
