Having read the comments below, all I can say is that, after around 200hrs flying the D18, it's one of the nicest handling aeroplanes I've ever flown. Yes, with a VW (as mine had) the performance isn't sparkling, at least with two on board. But the Revmaster 2100 in the D18 in the film produces a climb rate of 1000 fpm one-up and not far off that with two, with an easy 90kt cruise. As far as the cabin width is concerned, I'm a big bloke but it's no worse than a Cessna 150. I wouldn't swap mine!
The Jodel D18 hasn't got enough wing area. The power loading is also to high. Jodel's are good aeroplane to fly. The best part is the excellent nose down visibility. A VW engine I haven't seen one yet that will really put out 60 h.p. at 65% power. The Jabiru I wouldn't fly behind at any price. The D18 needs a the 80 h.p. Rotax 912. to make it fly well. But at the end of the day its short of 14 sq feet of wing area. If you fly one you will notice it won't come up on the step.
How good is the Jodel D18 performance. The D18 figures don't seem to stack up. I can see the aircraft would go well with a Rotax 912 but with a VW trying to put out 65 h.p. is near impossible. The cockpit width under 1 M is completely unnecessary as test shows it could be 1100 m.m. and probably go faster.
The Jodel goes ok with a VW but better with a Jabiru, which is more powerful and lighter. A 912 would be ok but is heavier than the Jab. The airframe is rated to 80 hp. There is a wider version. All in the performance isn't bad aginst a number of more recent designs., and its wood!
Excellent video !!!

How ever it performs I must say the music and view are stunning, I just ordered plans, who cares if it's not as fast as
a plastic carbon fiber epoxy clone, she is beautiful.
