I am not saying the Marine Corp is weak or anything such as that and I am not here to start some insult war here. I am just very curious as to why the USMC PT test uses crunches? I know a couple of years ago it was sit ups but why did they change to crunches? I am honestly very curious as to why this is? Also is there any talk of the USMC changing their PT test just like the US ARMY is changing it's PT test? Thanks
@R4LAXED Give me a break. The only way you're going to trim your waistline is from doing cardio and good nutrition. Crunches and situps will just give you bigger ab muscles.
@h3lassasin it all depends on the fitness level. even doing one crunch is contracting your abs. I personally do two sets of 50 crunches at the end of my workouts. some people can only do 10, other people can do 200. Just work your way up and keep doing more and more
My routine crunch sit-up leg raise jack knife and I don't know what its called but you have your knees bent 90 deg in the air and yu move your right elbow to left thigh and repeat good burn
@HellzHonour Yes. Later on, you will notice that the soreness is actually a good thing, when trying to induce muscle growth, but after never having targeted a certain muscle group before, or even after two weeks break in your exercise, this will occur with additional discomfort. Which is, again, a good thing. Go for it
hey i have 143 pounds and i am doing 100 abdominal crunches,200 sit-ups, every morning 1 hour walk, every evening running and in the day i ride my bicycle. I want to know if i can get abs in 3 months by doing this every day?
Hey, looks like your sure working hard for those abs. Sounds like a great routine, just make sure your eating healthy, drinking heaps of water and always have your breakfast!
There all important because running helps you lose stomach fat and sit ups/crunches build the abdominal muscles. You need them all, if you stick to running you'll lose fat but won't build the muscles without crunches/sit ups. And if you only do crunches/sit ups, it will build your abs behind your layer of fat.
hey i did 50 crunches and im new at it .it kinda hurt in my abdominal part is it really suppose to hurt?and i didnt sweat does that mean it didnt work?
1) Cradle the neck with the hands, as low down the neck and onto the upper back as possible, to support the head and prevent neck strain.
2) Before doing the sit-up/crunch, flatten the lower back against the floor and pull the stomach muscles in. This aligns and protects the low back.
3) Do the sit up/crunch as in the vid but do it to the side, i.e. slightly twisting the body. This uses the obliques as well as the rectus abdominis for better core strength.
@KentAllard pull in; I wouldn't use the word 'suck' as this might imply doing something with the breathing, or lifting the thorax. Just flatten the spine against the floor and pull the abs in the same direction. Hope this is useful.
@XenoBladez You know, hypocritical comments like yours often land a person in the wrong spotlight. You don't need abs to teach someone how to do something.
Forever. It wont get you a six paack. sure it will build strength and siz eof abs but it wont give you a six pack. To get a sic pack you have to do cardiovascular exercise(running, jogging...) This burns the fat over the abs and eventualy will show a six pack! You dont have to do any ab exercises to get one justt lose fat. i do reccomend you do abs though to shape and define ur abs as well as for health.
Advice on how to not use back or neck muscels when doing crunchs cause when i do them i think i lift from my back and my neck is always in pain after nd my stomach feels barely anything nd im fat im fat enough to have moobs
if you find it difficoult to keep your hands behind your head while doing the crunches, do like I do and cross your arms over your chest and keep your hands on your shoulders. Hope this helps ;)
i really need a 6 pack and i've almost got one, i've got a vague 4 pack. if anyone needs 2 know da best exercises to do, i suggest crunches, sit ups, leg lifts and static holds

@UltimatePineapple you my friend,.,, are a retard. As if you would waste your time writing this crap. Did you think you were funny at the time or something?
@APriceProduction however easy they look and however easy the 1st 3 or so may be, after you done 10-15 of them, you know about it, as if you do 50 sit ups, then you know about it
@juan15806 Getting a 6 pack is one of the hardest things to do. You should worry about three things. 1) Diet....get rid of junk food, stick with water, and start eating your fruits and veggies. 2) Strengthen all your muscles and put extra effort into your abs 3) Cardio. This takes time and effort.
@CapChronic From What I heard your BMI has to be at 8-10 % which is extremely low for your 6 pack to be defined....remember this is what I have heard. If your really thin you should worry about toning your muscles
@foreverlatino Well you heard wrong, BMI isn't measured in percentage, you're referring to body fat. BMI isn't that accurate either, as it doesn't take in to account people with lots of muscle, it would say they are overweight, when really, they are extremely fit and muscular.
@foreverlatino well i can live without junk food and im going to drink more water but i dont eat much fruits or veggies epcept in my salads and i work out my abs everyday and i bike fixed geared 10-20miles every day so do you think that i can lose enough weight in like 2 months because ive been doing that and ive already noticed a bit of a difference
it doesnt matter how many you do, just as you feel the burn keep going until you cant any longer, you should be able to do a couple more of each every week or so.
@Bl1ng3r say if i do crunches and cardio and fully bodytraining and dieting will i get a 6 pack i i increase the resitance every 4 weeks like using a weight or medine ball

im just starting out with this, what do you all think of 3 sets of 10 a day? could someone please reply, because i dont want to be wasting my time or not doing enough
hey thanks for the reply, really helpful! honestly! im going to do my 3 sets of 10 for 2 weeks get my body ready, then start pushing out about 150 a day maybe. what do you reckon? im not fat, actually very slim, know you wernt saying i am :).
i also run 3 times a week, help me with just cardio, also doing other forms of excerise like tricep dips, push ups. because i cant afford a gym membership.
@roninjames101 Well I dont believe in Gym or some snazzy contraption to build muscle.
Its all about keeping at it an hour everyday.
if you r starting then your muscles which you are going to get into play for the first time are going to hurt, but if the muscle still hurt for more than a week and half then you are doing something wrong.
Your body fat should be 10% to your actual weight, you can get those charts on the internet.
Well i still think you should do 150 aitups a day.
Hi,well I currently weigh 152 lbs(68.9 kg) & I'm 20 yrs old. Isn't it bad to exercise everyday of the week or is it a must to do pushups and crunches everyday in order to keep in shape? and I do exercise an hour 3 times a week
@BiniamBarcelona At your age I could exercise 3 times a day 7 days a week. Excercise is never bad, keeps your body tight and you feel energetic.
To me fitness is what shape you want to be in, are you happy being at 68 kilos, 70 kilos, 72 to or 75 kilos, the way you feel good.
Once you have reached the level where you think u r allright, just keep monitoring you extra weight and get rid of that doing some aerobic excercise such as running, swiming, walking, jogging.
@Shutkaroo : I want to stay at 70-75Kgs and not go beyond.Push-ups have really worked for me and I'm thinking of doing them everyday coz they work out back, triceps, biceps and the chest. Is it bad to do them everyday?
@BiniamBarcelona Nutrition is very Important also, basically proteins, if you are vegetarian you should eat lot of cereals such as beans, lentils which are full of proteins and milk, if you are a carnivore blood thirsty devils standup sinner then there should be a daily dose of meat.
At ur age, your body will respond quicker to ab excercises if ur trying to get a 6 pack, three days shud b ok.
if u have excercised your ab muscles when u are young, u will have a flat tummy all your life.
"if your chin is touching your chest your abs are not being used." Wrong, its actually more effective because it curles your entire stomach, but it could damage your neck.
@pinatamurderur I'm the same way EXCEPT I can only do like 5 sets of 10 people I fall out haha but then again I weight 345 lbs so I guess its not extraordinary bad for my weight.
no u are not supposed to it means u are pulling yourself up with your hands and that would hurt your head but u should be using your tummy muclses to pull u up
Cardio(running) should be done every other day so you give your body some time to rest. otherwise you are not giving your body enough time to grow muscle.

Variations, more effective and safer:
1) Cradle the neck with the hands, as low down the neck and onto the upper back as possible, to support the head and prevent neck strain.

But if you are serious and want a six pack atleast 200 a day.
Results will be in 16 weeks, first month you wont see anything dont get disheartned, be pressistant and dedicated.
mind you if you are obesse/pear shaped (sorry to use the words) this wont help.
U need to do something like an hour of jogging, swiming, running or power walk.
and if you still have energy do situps or crunches atleast a 100.

hey thanks for the reply, really helpful! honestly! im going to do my 3 sets of 10 for 2 weeks get my body ready, then start pushing out about 150 a day maybe. what do you reckon? im not fat, actually very slim, know you wernt saying i am :).
i also run 3 times a week, help me with just cardio, also doing other forms of excerise like tricep dips, push ups. because i cant afford a gym membership.
thanks again

BiniamBarcelona 1 year ago

BiniamBarcelona 1 year ago
@BiniamBarcelona Nutrition is very Important also, basically proteins, if you are vegetarian you should eat lot of cereals such as beans, lentils which are full of proteins and milk, if you are a carnivore blood thirsty devils standup sinner then there should be a daily dose of meat.
At ur age, your body will respond quicker to ab excercises if ur trying to get a 6 pack, three days shud b ok.
if u have excercised your ab muscles when u are young, u will have a flat tummy all your life.

Just leave a day, once every week for your muscles to repair and fix themselfs

"if your chin is touching your chest your abs are not being used." Wrong, its actually more effective because it curles your entire stomach, but it could damage your neck.
EricLesher 1 year ago
But they r correct coz if yr chin does touch yr chest yr neck will inevitably get damaged

@pinatamurder Yeah, having a six pack is less about how big your abs are and more about having really low body fat.
Crest7878 2 years ago
i hate crunches i do 8 sets 70 reps everyday and all its got me is ab lines
but then again i eat what ever i want but also exercise
piniatamurderur 2 years ago
@pinatamurderur I'm the same way EXCEPT I can only do like 5 sets of 10 people I fall out haha but then again I weight 345 lbs so I guess its not extraordinary bad for my weight.

Fitzxverdi 2 years ago 2
Cardio(running) should be done every other day so you give your body some time to rest. otherwise you are not giving your body enough time to grow muscle.
