This was really informative, not because he gives you a stack of information about 'the correct mics' or 'the correct micing techniques' it's just a 6 minute reminder that it's about listening to what you're recording and not getting stuck in habits, the main source of my problems a few years back was using the same thing over and over, thank god i grew out of that lol
Some say the old albums are more real and dynamic, some say modern stuff is too compressed and neat. Isn't it obvious that the middle way gives you the best of both worlds? Don't compress 'everything' and don't be afraid to have a few tiny timing errors if it delivers a good feel.
Is that really true about the guitar's lower end? You know, that the cab usually can't handle it? At what freq's can a cab handle in ratio to the head thats giving it?
to heavy, to compressed too this too that, stop complain and crying for the new production methods it´s all about the music style I like those guys I like their productions they create a new era and you guys seems like you live in a time machine allways trying to bring the past just enjoy the music and listen what the greatest producer have to said about their job cheers
@tranquito I think that might be what they were trying to go for, some of the video has a vintage effect and there are crakles in the audio like that of a LP
Thanks for posting - interesting to hear what these guys do just as a reference. Thought this guy was quite articulate, considering he's a 'shy producer' and not a "look-at-me" rockstar!! Thanks again

brucekirk89 1 year ago
the production on ALL new albums sucks! its too clean and no dynamics and the drums sound like they are programmed, REAL SHITTY
SpiritMolecule1 1 year ago 2
@SpiritMolecule1 +compressed to hell and maximized so much there is no room for dynamics anymore. mtv metal..
Sorgutentarer 1 year ago
@Sorgutentarer yeah, sucks balls, the production of the old albums are way better, the stuff in 90s or early 2000, this new production really blows.
SpiritMolecule1 1 year ago
The moral of this guy's story is "it depends on the project." Still helpful at times.

The sound in this is awful, you'd think a magazine that specialised in audio would care that it sounded like this!
