Billy Corgan wrote basically all of their songs always so i dont really care who is in the band, i mean id prefer the original line-up but its not like they did that much for anything but their image.
I can't disagree with you more wholeheartedly. Jimmy Chamberlin is widely regarded as one of the great rock drummers of all time and he was an absolute powerhouse in this band. Yes Billy was clearly the primary creative force, but Jimmy's contribution was massive. Everyone's free to have an opinion. :) Cheers.
@sydthevanillavampire i agree about the original line up not contributing but they did a lot for there image. cuz if they didnt then a millon people wouldnt be complaining about Darcy and James not being in the reunion
Is it just me, or is everyone complaining too much about the Pumpkins live shows. I saw them at the Chicago theater and a little more than half their set was old stuff, and people keep bitching about how they never play Today or 1979 (both of which they played).

smashing pumpkins 1988-2000. anything after that sucked. this isnt even the smashing pumpkins. Rememeber Zwan?? That was comprised of Billy and Jimmy. They may as well have called this zwan again or something else. If James sucked so badly than why as soon as he leaves everything sucked bad? He was integral. Billy thinks hes a genius for coming up with 'gossamer'and 'superchrist' they are both incredibly easy to play. billy isnt a god like everyone thinks he is. He was good only good in the 90's
Watch their new dvd that came out and then see how you feel after that. He talks a lot about his rationale toward your type of mentality in the documentary. Your just repeating what everyone else is beating into the ground, but there's a lot to this story and you don't know many of the facts.
He calls the band Smashing Pumpkins because it was the first band, and mostly the only band, he ever put his soul into. He's said many times that when he's not making music for the Smashing Pumpkins, he feels cramped, like he HAS to make it sound different from Smashing Pumpkins. Not to mention he hates his former Zwan's, while he's still on semi-friendly, but not talking, terms with Wretzky and Iha. And you haven't even given Billy time to get back in his "Pumpkin" shoes.
i was so disappointed when they didnt play this when i went to see them in Sept. of 2007. It was the one song i wanted to hear the most (not Today or 1979 lol). I can't imagine people walking out on this. maybe it is partially my fault this got back in the setlists :)
dude your a tool, their a creative band. And also...This is a bitching song I just saw them last night front row and billy melted my face off with this song
after watching the "if all goes wrong" show this just seemed so ridiculous - I UNDERSTAND what Billy is doing - but lets remember people have been good to him - theyve waited years to see them play, theyve travelled from far lands and what do they get? songs theyd like to hear? no a 37 minute self-indulgent ramble whichs offers nothing other than to annoy the audience - think of how many great songs of theirs they couldve instead played in 37 minutes! then he complains about people walking out!
Then they don't enjoy his MUSIC. They enjoy a select pick of his songs and can't even BEAR to listen to the rest without throwing a fit. It's a concert, not a radio-station all-request hour.
The first night, July 15th, they ended the show with Gossamer. This is from July 18th, and they opened with Gossamer, and the show went on for another 2 and a half hours!
According to If All Goes Wrong, a lot of people walked out on this song, and they called the show. I kind of understand because it's an encore, a half hour of music nobody knows... GREAT material but how was the audience supposed to understand?

Amazing song.
It has somewhat of a feeling
of Pink Floyd's Echoes.
Especially part 2 of Gossamer.

Zwan was really good! These songs are still good, despite the new lineup, seriously. Watch If All Goes Wrong and you'll see the thought process.

how much of the show did you get? I was there. Gossamer is excellent, as is your video/audio quality.
