They would have had their own mortuary and graveyard, so that no patient ever had to leave the confines of the hospital. Back then they believed that if these people were breeding with the general population, it would weaken it. So they kept them apart. It still stands now, although vandals have destroyed a lot of it. I went few months ago, and I have an obsession with medical history.

It pioneered the understanding of the mentally unwell as people who should be treated as people, through introducing occupational therapy, and proper staff training. It didn't always maintain it through the ages but it's a shame it doesn't have it's place in history...and it was very aesthetically pleasing. Shame on you Lanarkshire Health Board.

I worked there and I have to say watching this video I can't believe I spent a few nights there. Much of the burnt out building at around five mins was the studio and the stage, where there once had been a dance hall.

I used to work in hartwood hospital when it was LTV. Great building shame about whats happened to it. I did a project at university I was going to use to help promote this building and save it, but nothing has come from it.
The dead cant harm you but heres a word of warning: don't go and see either of your parents or anyone else after they kick the bucket, my mother looked bloody hellish and I nearly shat a brick. Her contorted face sticks in my mind, not how you want to remember them. 'go and see your mother' my dad insisted. At least horror is only makebelieve: this was for real. I live near Hartwood Hospital and I'll be very sad if its dwmolished. Its been a well known Lanarkshire landmark for many years.

i stay half a mile from this place and i can see it from my window my wife and i were going to bed one night when i looked out and saw the window of the tower was lit up and someone was standing in it this is when it was boarded up it was used for mental patients and the staff were mostly female terrifying place

I worked in a morgue for 15 years,never saw a ghost BUT heard plenty.. & did see things I could bot explain.WHY in an empty one do they show a body under the sheets?& why do they ALWAYS blame GOD?BUT I am not saying they don't exist!!
