@PiphALaMode I'm going back and watching old videos. I saw your comment, if you are still a nerdfighter you should go to Vidcon! It will be the most fun you ever had and sorry you missed the day in the video, it was a great time too. But go to Vidcon!
All the nerd fighters are.... female. Not that I'm disappointed that they too can be primarily composed of awesome I just find it strange that there aren't any Nerd fighting bros.
Yeah, I've seen a handful of guys, but we seem to be the minority in Nerd Fighteria. Given, John writes YA fiction from the PoV of a female character, but that shouldn't prevent guys from enjoying them, and being active in the community.
Where everyone was in a circle? It's like you go around a circle while everyone sings a song - and than you pick someone to switch places with and than that person goes around in the circle. It's more of a song than a game I s'pose..
Fighting? Fighting Nerds? Tour de...? writers interacting with readers?
OK, got it. Can the Sawal Kameej be brought to others that define cool? Can Bangladesh find a nerd or an author (or another Bono) to share the sawal kameej with the rest of the world?
You put that so well, the whole it feels like a friend is telling me a story. Also I like John's books because his characters are relate able. I remember reading things in high school too and the characters never seemed like they were from the same time in history as I was. All the great novels like The Outsiders and Catcher in the Rye fifties and so on, his books are based on how kids are today. Much more able to connect. BTW you are doing something amazing.
This is kind of embarrassing, but whenever I read Paper Towns (which I'm still reading because I am slow) I feel as if I know the writer personally, even though I don't. I just know more about him than any other famous writer out there.
I'm actually going to Bangladesh by myself with help from family - but I'll meet up with Save the Children once I'm there. I don't work for them - I just want to help Save the Children.
I think there was one time when YouTube changed it from "Awesome" to "Excellent" - which kind of sucked. I'm glad they reverted to calling five stars "awesome" :)
we had a lot of girls to begin with (hank and john showed up about an hour early, so mostly only girls showed up for that!), but it got a whole lot more even as it became later in the afternoon.
You can check my deleted scenes on my other channel (thestudent) - that shows a slightly more balanced gathering. Though it was still more girls than guys.
That was such a great video! Thanks for making and sharing it with us!
You are such an amazing human being! Keep doing what you are doing! You inspire people to do better in this world we live in, you definitely have inspired me!
man that screaming...lol..like they are the freakin beatles or something! the nerdfighter tour sure has produced hysteria...its so, whats the word? oh yeah, awesome =)
Thanks! I am so amazed at the endless generosity of Nerdfighters. Before I could even finish explaining how the money could be spent - half the room was already pulling out money to donate.
awesome man! I love what the vlogbrothers do to improve the world, i love what you do to improve the world, and its pretty neat to see you guys getting to do it together. dftba!
Oh I'm so glad you left a comment! Because I was wondering if anyone who was sitting next to me would get to see this video. I want to keep in touch with all you guys! =)
I love what you had to say about John's new approach to writing and connecting with the audience. That's exactly what I'm trying to do with music, and seeing the way the nerdfighter thing has taken off really gives me hope it can work.
Good luck with the rest of the tour and the amazing work you do. =)
When (not if) you finally get your big break - I bet you'll be one of the most down-to-earth guys in your field because of your approach.
I mean take a look at John - he's a freakin' NY Times best seller but he's the most down to earth and humble person I've had the honor of getting to know.
That Tour de Nerdfighting funds for Save the Children was just something that worked out. You can always donate to Save the Children - it just won't be for my Challenge Poverty stuff. Also, you can also donate to the project via PayPal. But I'm not a charity so you don't get a tax write-off unfortunately...
Hey Alley, in the deleted scene where you see my full talk - I kind of mention how I really don't consider myself a hero. I'm just a regular guy and a luck Nerdfighter :)
You are a regular guy who is doing something to make this world a better place. I wont call you a hero (But you are), but you are changing lives for the better and not all of them are in Bangladesh. Can I call you a positive role model.
I heard you'll be in Westport! I hope you can film some stuff there for me! And if John and Hank are busy maybe you can help Save the Children collect the money? Lemme know! :-D
Woah, how did I miss the info in the side bar about Westport being the home for Save the Children?! Awesome, Elliot and I will do whatever you need us to do! <3
This is excellent to see. Im glad John has helped you out Shawn. John has done the same with me. You are doing an awesome Job Shawn. I cant wait to see what happens next.

hey great job.
your project has really come a long ways in under a year.
quick question:
have you every read The Alchemist or Mountains Beyond Mountains?
DjKiba 3 years ago
Nope, why?
UnculturedProject 3 years ago
oh they are just good books that i enjoy.
Mountains Beyond Mountains is one you may like (i don't know) it is about Paul Farmer who did/does humanitarian work in Haiti.
And the Alchemist is a good story about how all existence is connected.
your probably too busy to read these but, ya.
Just something i thought you might find interesting.
