@AWiseFilm Typically the "film look" is attributed to shallow depth of field so longer lenses will help achieve this along with shooting in 24p. I end up using a 50mm and 72mm lens a lot. Also, good lighting and composition are still always going to help you move away from the "video look"..
Hey - your stuff looks great. I'm also new to the 35mm lens conversion stuff... maybe you can help me out. I understand that using a redrock adapter will flip the image? If so; how do you manage shooting? I imagine that would be kinda difficult. I also heard something about a flip accessory...? I'm guessing that fixes the problem.
Yea, if you have just the redrock it will flip the image upside down. You have two options, 1) buy an external monitor and filp it upside down or 2) Redrock does have a flip accessorie for fairly cheap. The only problem with the flip is that you lose even more light when you use it. I have tried both and now just use the flip and deal with the light loss.. Hope that helps.
It definately adds quite a bit of weight and it gets pretty heavy for handheld, but is workable. You need a good sturdy tripod as well or it will sink when left unheld.
I used the 3-way color correction in final cut. Put some yellow in it, brought the whites and mids up and crushed the blacks. (I do that a lot , I like that look).
hello im new to the lens adapter scene can you help me ? I just want to know what kind of 35 mm lens you can use i have a nikon camera with a 35mm lens can i adapt a picture camera lens to a videocamera lens with the redrock? thanks for your time
I would definately recommend the redrock wich is a lens adapter, but the lenses I used are old pentax slr lenses which have a cool look but you can get much better in my opinion.
glad you like it. The music is "The Soundless Dawn Came Alive As Cities Began To Mark The Horizon" by Red Sparrowes, they are a great instrumental band.
I used pentax 52mm and a telephoto. I shot 720 24p, the scene file was cine v w/ just the default settings. I did a bit of color correction in final cut too. Thanks for the comment!
crazy that such an expesive dof dosent correct the image right way up.. im surprised..

I Have A Quick Question. Is The M2 Adapter Heavy? :)

It definately adds quite a bit of weight and it gets pretty heavy for handheld, but is workable. You need a good sturdy tripod as well or it will sink when left unheld.

How Much Would All This Cost Together, Total?
Ralo13 3 years ago
Look to spend around 2000 bucks for the lens adapter, then you need lenses if you don't already have some, which kind get pricey. Hope that helps.

Yes you can, that is what the lens adapter does is attach 35mm lsr lenses to the hvx. I actually use nikon lenses with the redrock and the hvx.
