@BubblegumPopMusic13 i totally agree, i dont like sarah one bit. and sierra is amazing, she just sounds perfect. emmy has got a good voice (not the best), but you have to remember she was much younger than sierra when she sung it. but i totally agree !
@jillywilson Just because Sarah's the original doesn't exactly mean she's the best. Honestly, I think Sarah tries a little too hard. Her voice is so sharp and pitchy, and not all the great. She can't even act. She just stares at you with giant owl eyes. I'm not surprised she hasn't won any major award yet, and considereing the fact that she's somewhat losing her voice now, it may never happen.
@RandomChara Sharp and pitchy means you don't hit the notes correctly, and you hit them off pitch, and Sarah Brightman has perfect pitch. Plus, she's what, 50? Even the best has to start losing their support sometimes, it's called aging.
She's good. Personally, Lisa Vroman will always be my favorite. I like my Christine's to not only execute the high notes well, but also sound like opera singers. Sierra has good legit musical theatre technique, and I would be happy to see her play Christine (and I would have preferred her to Emmy any day) but when Lisa Vroman sings as Christine, I can believe that she could actually be headlining at a Paris opera house. But that's just me. Sierra is a great compromise for everyone's taste.
@SoulSingerJenna I understand what you mean. I seriously doubt Gaston Leroux would have approved of many of the singers that were chosen in the stage production and film. Just like you said. The character was written as an opera singer whose supposed to be "Beyond Musical Comprehension" just like the Phantom who is also a musical genius. But I think Andrew Lloyd Webber is more to blame for picking singers who are theatre bred & telling them to use that technique.
Are these the lyrics in the show version? I've never actually seen / heard the stage version and have only seen the film and can't believe how different the lyrics are?
I love Sarah and Emmy equally :) Emmy a little bit more because I grew up with her as Christine and she will always be my favorite but as for Love Never Dies, I love Sarah
You guys say that she was in the chorus, yet, she has said (as well as her teachers there) that she played Children's parts at the Metropolitan Opera- NOT being just a choir member. I'm not saying that that gave her the sudden ability to sing operatically, it's just that your facts aren't correct.
A mezzo is still an opera singer and I know Christine is a high soprano as Sierra is. Opera ranges from high soprano to bass. Emmy is an opera singer, she joined the Metropolitan Opera of New York when she was seven and sang there until she was seventeen so she is an opera singer. I agree I was a little complimentary of her talents, she was not vocally suitable to play Christine but just because she was miscast for that particular role doesn't mean she's not a good singer within her own range.
@EriksRose1 Emmy was a memeber of the children's chorus. They are taught the basics of singing, nothing more! If children ever tried to sing opera they'd permenantley damage their vocal chords. She left when she was 12. Opera is arguably the most difficult form of music to sing. You have to have an exrodinary range & ability to sustain it. Most professional opera singers don't even start a career til their mid-thirties. To be declared an opera singer you have to perform an aria live.
@EriksRose1 it's not about the range really...more about the quality of the singing that is only brought out after years and years of vocal training. I wouldn't even say Sierra is an Opera singer, let alone Emmy. Sierra is a musical theatre soprano--she sings legit mt soprano and belts a little as well....I doubt she would ever be able to be a professional opera singer. She is a great singer, but her voice is nowhere near as strong as the successful opera sopranos i've heard.
@EriksRose1 i do like Emmy's voice, but it is way too weak for her to be considered an opera singer. remember. range designates how high and low a person sings. then there's the sound, timbre, and quality that specifies everything else. Just because Emmy is a Mezzo doesn't mean she's an opera mezzo. Just because someone studies classical material does not make them an opera singer. I'm a musical theatre singer myself, but I study classical material as well...i'm NOT an opera singer though
It's so sad to see how Andrew Lloyd's Webber desire for a critical, Sondheim-esque show has ruined his writing. The beauty of the score for Phantom of the Opera was so thrilling and affecting the first time I heard it, and even here it still strikes me; Love Never Dies is so heavy-handed and lumbering, it makes you wonder what they were thinking.
Oh she can rock this role :) Sierra just has a beautiful voice, and while nothing could ever beat, for instance, the original Ariel, she managed to perform that part beautifully. Her voice is just perfectly suited a role like this, especially since she has training ^_^ Now if we could just get her and Gerry together....
@Lunara13 What's interesting about that is Gerry Butler actually met her at the Love Never Dies opening gala. Rumor has it at the after-party he flirted quite heavily with her. Don't worry Gerry fans, they're not a couple. She's declared herself single for the past two years. Poor girl doesn't have time for a realtionship. It would be incredible to see them work together though. I wonder if Emmy will ever see the orginal show let alone the sequel. But with Sierra as the lead probably not.
Sierra is the best, that's obviously why she was chosen for LND. Also, Sierra played Christine in the Vegas production when she was 21, and Emmy is around the same age now and she's not on Broadway. There is no comparison. Sieera is the best
@TheRealAndriane- My bad then. But she was handpicked by Lloyd Webber in 2005 ( so she would be 23 then) to play the role after graduating college from 2004; those facts are right. Anyways, in end, my point is that Sierra is a much better selection to play Christine on stage than Emmy.
They simply cannot be compared. When you perform these songs from a Theatre Background, you are performing to that final row in the auditorium. For film, you need to tone it back quite a bit because of the size of the screen. Emmy has a beautiful voice and I'm sure would sound wonderful if done for the stage. Having said that, WAY TO GO SIERRA, LOVE HER!!!
@lumiere85 You're right, but I didn't think Emmy toned it down...I think that she wasn't able to sing like this, at least not at that time...she has almost no vibrato in her voice, and I doubt she could perform the songs live... I still love her, though, she was perfect for the movie :)
lol i cant believe people actually get into that argument xD
sierra seems to be a great classical theater singer, but sarah brightman will always be the original christine, which are very huge shoes to fill. emmy was just the movie christine, which won't really ever be that great as the theater girls, but emmy is still very wonderful, i love her a lot ^^
@DancingKatie16 I agree! Emmy was 16 when she played Christine, so her vocals weren't as well developed and she, from then on out, was working on her acting career, so some of her training was lost. She still, however, has a beautiful and cannot be "knocked," shall I say, for her talent.
@SparrowFreak No, she was 16. I remember Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gerard Butler making such a fuss because she was 16. I think she said it in an interview too, but I have to look it up.
I believe that Sierra's voice sounds so effortless on those high notes. Many people are saying that she is way better than Emmy. This is true, but we need to keep in mind that Emmy was very young when she played the part. Her voice was still growing, and if she played the part again while in her twenties, I'm sure her voice would be much more suited for those high notes. I believe that Emmy did a great job regardless.
@joeyswish2008 I really loved Emmy's performance in the film, I thought she was a marleous actress who was everything the character should be. I also thought her voice was lovely even if it wasn't the most astonishing. But as it turns out, Emmy's voice has developed into a mezzo range. I listened to her sing AIAOY on another video recently & her voice is much heavier. She had trouble sustaining the high notes.
we all kno that emmy rossum was just a lil child! Sierra is just trained and is just very very different and very very very talented.... there is no way to ompare her to emmy... I love Emmy but this is the voice she just does not have..:))
In Response to Emmy. I did not know that she was 15 when the movie was filmed.
The high C should not have been an issue with her soprano timber/especially at 15.
The thin tone and other imperfections are acceptable. But the voice still does not compare to the gift of Sierra, regardless of age. Sierra's voice is truly remarkable.
The Same sort of vocal gift you will hear in a woman from Australia named Marrissa. Check her out singing "Wishing you were somehow here again" Remarkable.
I can't believe people are comparing an adequate movie star to a very talented broadway/west end star!!! I love Phantom but the film was shit! I recently saw love never dies and Sierra is by far one of the best musical actresses out there....she was mind blowing! SOOOOOoooo much better than alot of previoous Christines!
Emmy's voice is not as strong as Sierra's... she -Emmy, is very weak in some parts of the Phantom recording... she can't even hit the high c in this song. Her voice is thin, like a child and there are several vocal mistakes through out her performances. Sierra has the better instrument...hands down.
@fro7465 I try not to get into this debate too much...however, I think that all you have to do is listen to how much power and ease Sierra sings the song, versus Emmy's underpowered, thin notes. Sierra is simply better trained, classical, and well, if I dare say, better. ;)
@fiddleriddler i agree emmy is ok but i hate it they always put famous actors in a musical movie not singers .And she is mezzo ,they hmade the notes lower for her .sierra is way better
@fiddleriddler I like them equally...Sierra can blow Emmy away on the singing part, but Emmy did such a great job portraying Christine...She is my number one Christine, but she wouldn't last a show on broadway, while Sierra (tie with Emmy at first place) sings the high notes with such ease...I don't think Emmy did a bad job, she's a fantastic singer, but she is more of an actress, while Sierra is more of a singer :)
@fiddleriddler I agree that Emmy Rossum wasn't the best singer, but I think Sierra is just as "thin" vocally. I was actually shocked the first time I heard her sing and I wondered why they cast her. She's also terrible at blending her high notes with the rest of her voice AND I find her coloratura verrrrry nasal.
@Seschal1 I disagree! I think she has a shimmery sound in her upper register. She's a Light Lyric soprano who has ease & grace throughout the scale. Sierra's voice has a much wider range. There's an assurence to her voice. She was cast for these skills & acting chops. Unlike Emmy who is a mezzo & had to strain to reach several notes.
@Seschal1 I disagree! I think she has a shimmery sound in her upper register. Her voice has an assurence & grace ideal for this score. She can travel throughout the scale with ease. That and she captures the essance of Christine. Emmy is a mezzo who had to strain consistantly to hit several notes. Sierra doesn't struggle.
@fiddleriddler I agree. I love Emmy, and I discovered her when she was in the movie, but its true - Sierra is definitely better and classical. I love them both, tho. <3
@fiddleriddler DUDE. Emmy is now way better than her. I don't know how, but she just is. Her voice is now fuller. You should hear it. Search All I ask of you Emmy and Patrick wilson. And it was on the morning america show, christmas.
@MyArtIsLoved731 You do realize that performance was taped 6 years ago, right? Even then, Emmy's range is not nearly as wide or graceful as Sierra's. While everybody is free to state their opinion on who's voice they enjoy more. It's a fact Sierra has better vocal technique. With all due respect, do you even know what it means when somebody describes a singer's voice as "fuller" then another's? I think it's fair to say you don't have a great deal of knowledge about music ability.
@Silver54ful I don't. It's amazing right? I just hate it when people judge her voice from a movie that was filmed like 8 years ago. (started production 2002). Of course i like Sierra's voice, but prove it yourself that you have knowledge about music ability. By the way, I love Lea Salonga :D.
@Silver54ful Plus, Silver, that guy/girl wasn't saying about fuller. He/she said something about recording it over again until they like it. I was just proving Emmy had a good voice.
@Silver54ful I also do know when it's fuller or not. When it's fuller, i just know it. emmy wasn't that amazing in the Phantom of the opera movie, i know it was thin, light, and she strained sometimes. But that was 8 years ago, so i guess...
@fro7465 Ohh, no need to call anyone an idiot! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! I happen to love both Sierra and Emmy, and their respective strengths and weaknesses as performers. :)
@fro7465 Actually, Sarah is the best...the song was written FOR HER. And she's just the best anyway. more power, better technique, not as much a wimpy soubrette but a light lyric, warmer tone. Sierra is excellent too :)
you have no idea how bad i wanna know who her vocal coach is. i LUV sierra!! :D

I must say she is good. Sarah Brightman is the best though because she is the original.
jillywilson 1 year ago
@jillywilson Just because Sarah's the original doesn't exactly mean she's the best. Honestly, I think Sarah tries a little too hard. Her voice is so sharp and pitchy, and not all the great. She can't even act. She just stares at you with giant owl eyes. I'm not surprised she hasn't won any major award yet, and considereing the fact that she's somewhat losing her voice now, it may never happen.
RandomChara 1 year ago

SoulSingerJenna 1 year ago
@SoulSingerJenna I understand what you mean. I seriously doubt Gaston Leroux would have approved of many of the singers that were chosen in the stage production and film. Just like you said. The character was written as an opera singer whose supposed to be "Beyond Musical Comprehension" just like the Phantom who is also a musical genius. But I think Andrew Lloyd Webber is more to blame for picking singers who are theatre bred & telling them to use that technique.

pinkcandygirl 1 year ago
You guys say that she was in the chorus, yet, she has said (as well as her teachers there) that she played Children's parts at the Metropolitan Opera- NOT being just a choir member. I'm not saying that that gave her the sudden ability to sing operatically, it's just that your facts aren't correct.
PhanPhanPhanPhanPhan 1 year ago
She is quite the talented lady isn't she, voice and humor.
residentwriter 1 year ago
A mezzo is still an opera singer and I know Christine is a high soprano as Sierra is. Opera ranges from high soprano to bass. Emmy is an opera singer, she joined the Metropolitan Opera of New York when she was seven and sang there until she was seventeen so she is an opera singer. I agree I was a little complimentary of her talents, she was not vocally suitable to play Christine but just because she was miscast for that particular role doesn't mean she's not a good singer within her own range.
EriksRose1 1 year ago
@EriksRose1 Emmy was a memeber of the children's chorus. They are taught the basics of singing, nothing more! If children ever tried to sing opera they'd permenantley damage their vocal chords. She left when she was 12. Opera is arguably the most difficult form of music to sing. You have to have an exrodinary range & ability to sustain it. Most professional opera singers don't even start a career til their mid-thirties. To be declared an opera singer you have to perform an aria live.
Silver54ful 1 year ago

1618hp 1 year ago
@1618hp i know i agree the music of love never dies is so disappointing :(
cookiesncream994 1 year ago
Oh she can rock this role :) Sierra just has a beautiful voice, and while nothing could ever beat, for instance, the original Ariel, she managed to perform that part beautifully. Her voice is just perfectly suited a role like this, especially since she has training ^_^ Now if we could just get her and Gerry together....
Lunara13 1 year ago
@Lunara13 What's interesting about that is Gerry Butler actually met her at the Love Never Dies opening gala. Rumor has it at the after-party he flirted quite heavily with her. Don't worry Gerry fans, they're not a couple. She's declared herself single for the past two years. Poor girl doesn't have time for a realtionship. It would be incredible to see them work together though. I wonder if Emmy will ever see the orginal show let alone the sequel. But with Sierra as the lead probably not.
Silver54ful 1 year ago
Soooo good! I love her! She was so sweet when I met her a few weeks ago!
hrauthor87 1 year ago
Sierra is the best, that's obviously why she was chosen for LND. Also, Sierra played Christine in the Vegas production when she was 21, and Emmy is around the same age now and she's not on Broadway. There is no comparison. Sieera is the best
Masq92 1 year ago
@Masq92 She's 28 now, and she played the part 4 years ago- I think she was 24, not 21.
TheRealAndriane 1 year ago
@TheRealAndriane- My bad then. But she was handpicked by Lloyd Webber in 2005 ( so she would be 23 then) to play the role after graduating college from 2004; those facts are right. Anyways, in end, my point is that Sierra is a much better selection to play Christine on stage than Emmy.
Masq92 1 year ago
@Masq92 She was born in 1982, according to wikipedia. She's a marvelous coloratura, perfect for the part.
TheRealAndriane 1 year ago
They simply cannot be compared. When you perform these songs from a Theatre Background, you are performing to that final row in the auditorium. For film, you need to tone it back quite a bit because of the size of the screen. Emmy has a beautiful voice and I'm sure would sound wonderful if done for the stage. Having said that, WAY TO GO SIERRA, LOVE HER!!!
lumiere85 1 year ago
@lumiere85 You're right, but I didn't think Emmy toned it down...I think that she wasn't able to sing like this, at least not at that time...she has almost no vibrato in her voice, and I doubt she could perform the songs live... I still love her, though, she was perfect for the movie :)
ethalinia 1 year ago
lol i cant believe people actually get into that argument xD
sierra seems to be a great classical theater singer, but sarah brightman will always be the original christine, which are very huge shoes to fill. emmy was just the movie christine, which won't really ever be that great as the theater girls, but emmy is still very wonderful, i love her a lot ^^

@DancingKatie16 I agree! Emmy was 16 when she played Christine, so her vocals weren't as well developed and she, from then on out, was working on her acting career, so some of her training was lost. She still, however, has a beautiful and cannot be "knocked," shall I say, for her talent.

I believe that Emmy did a great job regardless.
joeyswish2008 1 year ago
@joeyswish2008 I really loved Emmy's performance in the film, I thought she was a marleous actress who was everything the character should be. I also thought her voice was lovely even if it wasn't the most astonishing. But as it turns out, Emmy's voice has developed into a mezzo range. I listened to her sing AIAOY on another video recently & her voice is much heavier. She had trouble sustaining the high notes.

Emmy's voice is not as strong as Sierra's... she -Emmy, is very weak in some parts of the Phantom recording... she can't even hit the high c in this song. Her voice is thin, like a child and there are several vocal mistakes through out her performances. Sierra has the better instrument...hands down.

fro7465 1 year ago
@fro7465 I try not to get into this debate too much...however, I think that all you have to do is listen to how much power and ease Sierra sings the song, versus Emmy's underpowered, thin notes. Sierra is simply better trained, classical, and well, if I dare say, better. ;)
fiddleriddler 1 year ago 42
@fiddleriddler i agree emmy is ok but i hate it they always put famous actors in a musical movie not singers .And she is mezzo ,they hmade the notes lower for her .sierra is way better
bastiantotalhappy 1 year ago
@fiddleriddler I like them equally...Sierra can blow Emmy away on the singing part, but Emmy did such a great job portraying Christine...She is my number one Christine, but she wouldn't last a show on broadway, while Sierra (tie with Emmy at first place) sings the high notes with such ease...I don't think Emmy did a bad job, she's a fantastic singer, but she is more of an actress, while Sierra is more of a singer :)
ethalinia 1 year ago
@fiddleriddler I agree that Emmy Rossum wasn't the best singer, but I think Sierra is just as "thin" vocally. I was actually shocked the first time I heard her sing and I wondered why they cast her. She's also terrible at blending her high notes with the rest of her voice AND I find her coloratura verrrrry nasal.
Seschal1 1 year ago
@Seschal1 I disagree! I think she has a shimmery sound in her upper register. She's a Light Lyric soprano who has ease & grace throughout the scale. Sierra's voice has a much wider range. There's an assurence to her voice. She was cast for these skills & acting chops. Unlike Emmy who is a mezzo & had to strain to reach several notes.
Silver54ful 1 year ago
@Seschal1 I disagree! I think she has a shimmery sound in her upper register. Her voice has an assurence & grace ideal for this score. She can travel throughout the scale with ease. That and she captures the essance of Christine. Emmy is a mezzo who had to strain consistantly to hit several notes. Sierra doesn't struggle.
Silver54ful 1 year ago
@fiddleriddler I agree. I love Emmy, and I discovered her when she was in the movie, but its true - Sierra is definitely better and classical. I love them both, tho. <3

@fiddleriddler DUDE. Emmy is now way better than her. I don't know how, but she just is. Her voice is now fuller. You should hear it. Search All I ask of you Emmy and Patrick wilson. And it was on the morning america show, christmas.
MyArtIsLoved731 1 year ago
@MyArtIsLoved731 You do realize that performance was taped 6 years ago, right? Even then, Emmy's range is not nearly as wide or graceful as Sierra's. While everybody is free to state their opinion on who's voice they enjoy more. It's a fact Sierra has better vocal technique. With all due respect, do you even know what it means when somebody describes a singer's voice as "fuller" then another's? I think it's fair to say you don't have a great deal of knowledge about music ability.
Silver54ful 1 year ago
@Silver54ful I don't. It's amazing right? I just hate it when people judge her voice from a movie that was filmed like 8 years ago. (started production 2002). Of course i like Sierra's voice, but prove it yourself that you have knowledge about music ability. By the way, I love Lea Salonga :D.
MyArtIsLoved731 1 year ago
@Silver54ful Plus, Silver, that guy/girl wasn't saying about fuller. He/she said something about recording it over again until they like it. I was just proving Emmy had a good voice.
MyArtIsLoved731 1 year ago
@Silver54ful I also do know when it's fuller or not. When it's fuller, i just know it. emmy wasn't that amazing in the Phantom of the opera movie, i know it was thin, light, and she strained sometimes. But that was 8 years ago, so i guess...
MyArtIsLoved731 1 year ago
@fro7465 Ohh, no need to call anyone an idiot! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! I happen to love both Sierra and Emmy, and their respective strengths and weaknesses as performers. :)
underthebloodredsky 1 year ago
@fro7465 Her voice was also (most likely) heavily edited.
DassMorris 1 year ago
@fro7465 Actually, Sarah is the best...the song was written FOR HER. And she's just the best anyway. more power, better technique, not as much a wimpy soubrette but a light lyric, warmer tone. Sierra is excellent too :)
