Neither Hindu nor Muslim, but Sundanese. Of course it was developed during the time when the Sundanese were still Hindus.Even though releigiously they are Muslims nnow, but they don't want to throw the culture of their ancestors.
actually it is not a formal muslim ceremony (this ceremony adopted from hindu culture). This culture had been practiced before Islam came to Indonesia. Yes, that is another problem with Islam in Indonesia, it mixed. BUT it doesn't mean that we have to put aside all culture pre Islam. If the culture do not go against islam we can keep it (islamic point of view) and furthermore we should promote it for tourism. : )
For me, all these points is what make indonesia(specially java) a VERY fascinating place! Be sute that i'll be visiting your country soon as possible!!!
