Walt played A-G-F on the first beat of one measure during COLOUR MY WORLD which occupied A minor. It should be A-G-E because there is no F in A minor. The 2nd,3rd and 4th beats were an A(one half and one quarter note "tied together"). I know what I'm talking about because I play and can read music myself. "Perfect Pitch" people like myself can identify notes, intervals and chords with their own ears. As for the A-G-F,that was Jim Pankow's mistake because he wrote CMW.
Wasn't Pankow a Juilliard graduate? Pankow was largely responsible for Chicago's complex horn arrangements. Terry Kath (Chicago's late guitarist) was self taught and could not read / write at the level of the horn section, yet he endured because of the incredible feel and soul he possessed from within, and that is something no classroom will ever yield.
Uhhhhhh Walt. WALT ! " Make Me Smile" wasn't in the 60's. It was 1970. I bought the single in the spring and " II " in the summer. Chicago great !. Chicago wonderful band ! But "Make Me Smile" not hit in sixties, Walt !
BALLET FOR A GIRL IN BUCHANNON which contained MAKE ME SMILE,was recorded in 1969,but released in January 1970. When trombonist James Pankow was driving somewhere in Los Angeles in '70,he had the car radio on and was shocked when MMS came on. He exclaimed,"I'm on the radio!". That was his composition.

When I said "there is no F in A minor",I was talking about the chord, not the key. I know there's an F in the key.
