Just watched Phil's last episode last night. Watched the special "After the Catch" as well. Very sad indeed, but to hear the stories and the memories of those closest to him was truly amazing. Thanks to Discovery for putting out some "REAL" reality. R.I.P. Captain Phil Harris.
True RHDrama. I had to laugh when Keith (if I heard correct) told Phil's boys not to bother trying to fish around the ...."butt" place because it was too hard to set the pots, etc. I told Cappy that Keith would probably setting his pots on the "butt" place, first chance he got. I know a lot of people like Keith, but...well, it may have been as he said when he matched Jonathan's "pot for pot"; it might have been an accident. I dunno, I liked Phil an whole lot more.
When they do many of these jazz funerals in NOLA, they are memorials, many without the casket. Much like the memorial "walk downs" they do down Allen Street in Tombstone Arizona. It's a tribute to the deceased to celebrate their life which New Orleans does in the best way.
I was there and my video did not come out as well as I wanted either, but I think most people appreciate sharing this moment. I was indeed HOT that morning. Thank you for your video, it is a wonderful tribute Captain Phil.
Thanks zander. I learned a lot from watching your video time and time again. You really got a lot of good shots. What we saw on the show just now was so limited, of neccesity of course, but ya know what? That makes your video the 'go to' place to see what really happened and to see the guys celebrating Phil's Going Away Party :-) Peggy
Hi sherm, this song is sung by the Corsairs. They have a lot of CD's of pirate shanties. They also entertain at Renaissance Festivals. What makes them so cool is that they sing all their songs acapella.
Hi Frampa. Inside the hearse was a dark red/brown shiny urn, on it's side, which contained Phil's ashes. It was so, sooo very sad, especially when Josh and Jake stood their paying homage to their dad.
Hi again Frampa...Cappy just told me today that what I thought was an urn, was in reality the gas tank of an Harley, since Phil loved his Harley. I'll have to find out whether or not it was actually Phil's.
@cappyandpegody so theres no casket or urn? so then what the hell did they do with him. that was a empy casket carrying carraige, there was nothing, so is any pic or video of his casket or urn, or was it all private?
@Degenerate724 Actually the "urn" was a red Harley Davidson gas tank. I could see the Cornelia Marie on one side and some one said one of Phils favorite tattoo was on the other. It's hard to see in the pictures cause it's sunk down in the cushions of the hearse.
@Degenerate724 What we were told is that half of Phils ashes were in this gas tank and will be scattered at sea later when the Cornelia Marie heads out for King crabs. The other half of his ashes were interred in the family plot. This info we obtained from the fan message board.
@cappyandpegody Yea I was watching an interview with Josh when he was in Chicago, he said that they had a funeral in Washington where they buried his ashes and then the rest would be spread on the Bering Sea. On the show when they played part of his funeral, you see two gas tanks. I think its a lovely thing New Orleans did for Phil and his family. Great footage, thank you for sharing it with everyone.
Thanks L4zy1 But now when I view the video, I'm cringing, because it's really the worst video I've made to date. I learned a lot, tho', by watching what I did wrong. Still, it was a wonderful day. The crowd was awsome. The organizers had chairs in the shade and cold drinks for the fans who showed up. I felt bad for the ship crews, who in a heat index of approx. 115 degrees(!) that day, who are used to working in Alaska's temps, were wearing black...but at least they looked COOOOL :-D
