  • I think the gameplay comment was more of a smart-ass comment, refering to the level of detail in the game, and how most things with this detail are cinematic.

  • ''All footage captured in-game''

  • @UmbrellaToxic That is what the actuall game looks like -.- you guys are dumb, because there isn't a Heads up Display and the camera is being cinematic you go, WHERES THE GAMEPLAY?

  • Robert Stoneman, you are a genius.

  • They made this trailer using in-game footage.... It's not that hard to understand people

  • I'm thinking of getting this do u really need internet to activate it? Also i want to know do u need 20GB of hard drive space? thx people

  • @bruvster2011 you do need internet to activate it, as it's installed through Steam. But once installed you can play steam games in an off-line mode. It takes just under 16gb of space.

  • I got shogun 2 for free by buying a doghouse systems computer and winning their promo! Woot!

  • im not going to lie i like the way you play the game >:)

    *sarcastic

  • get shogun 2 for free:

    9bbaafd9 (dot) tinylinks (dot) co

  • @knuckleguy this is a virus dont get it

  • Wow what fantastic gameplay. Oh wait...

  • where's the gameplay fotage?

  • The actual game graphics is better than earlier RTS cinematics xD

  • thats not gameplay thats in game video

  • It is nice to see that some games aren't wholly being affected by consolification. Other than issues related to the slightly slowed progression of hardware, the RTS genre won't have to worry about the lowest common denominator until consoles start supporting native mouse and keyboard input. Definitely going to have to give this game a go in the future.

  • very nice GAMEPLAY video. :D

  • something is missing from this GAMEPLAY trailer.

  • @LWS0123 i wonder what that might be? heeheheheh

  • Nice i just pre ordered!

  • The gameplay is the foreshadowing of night warfare, and and cherry blossoms flying around in spring time. I guess it is more focused on the environment

  • Where is the gameplay?

  • @farooqaaa

That WAS the gameplay. Your mind = blown.

  • @farooqaaa This is gameplay :)

  • @farooqaaa THIS IS THE GAMEPLAY. obviously you have never played total war before.

  • I'm pretty sure the korean fans will create the "Imjin War" mod.

  • Erm.... Where was the "gameplay"?

  • @CRuleProductions

It was a cinematic but everything in it was using the in-game engine.

  • Wooo Robert Stoneman!

  • i don't know how well it will do

total war is one of the best pc games unquestionably. I've enjoyed ever one of the games except for shogun because I couldn't relate to it I fear this will be the same because I know nothing of Japanese history.

  • @snakeeate121 then learn something about it

  • this is not fucking gameplay

  • NNOO i was hoping for Rome total war 2

  • @LetsStartARiotJordan I expect that to come after this.

  • this game makes my vajeen hang like sleeve of wizard

  • sun tzu said that. then he herded them onto a boat....

  • @mikebrightman and ever since that, when alot of animals are together, they call it a ZOO,unless it's a FARM!

  • @mikebrightman and he used tactics to beat the crap out of them

  • that's alot of samurais

  • I totally gonna update my graphic card for this one

  • I cant wait for medieval 3 total war

  • You bring great disorrer to the famiry

  • @Blurgasm i rofled hard :P

  • @goodfty erm... no?

if you want to have that, than buy sidmaiers civilisation 5 or something like that. but total war is always a real detailed part of the human history and this is good!

  • @Sepp00ppeS ok well civilization dosnt have huge ass battles im just saying !!! that they should just have a non historical and random fun won like maybe they can call it TotalWAr Deluxe or something ok so stfu i want t see that and its my opinion not yours ok!

  • why not....Fantasy-total war....like .... classic total war... but with magic , heroes demons, floating and underground cities, air combat.... and... well... a good ninja could kill an enemy leader... but a ninja wizard could do so much more , also why throw dead cows into a city when you could be throwing in UNdead cows, or undead flaming pigs while you`re at it, can you imagine the awesomeness of such a siege? the possibilities of this are limitless ... perhaps too limitless....

  • @computerulmeu i think you should head back to narnia

  • @computerulmeu you mean the Rome Total War Lord Of The Rings mod???

  • @computerulmeu freek

  • @computerulmeu total war is supposed to show historic battles and campaigns, if you put undead flaming pigs and ninja wizards, it would look pointless=bad ratings=fail game.

  • intro video ≠ gameplay trailer

  • @Forsseti

Actually, the intro video stopped at around 1:20 after that, it was gameplay.

    Really really good graphics.

  • Yeah, by gameplay footage you guys mean footage of the game's cinematic sequences, right? It's going to be years until an RTS game looks this good.

  • @myez No, they uploaded a video, where they showed that the graphics are actually this good, so stop being such a party killer, /watch?v=ClfAWjNZBnY

  • Saw it, and like I said: this video is primarily cinematic sequences, not in-game graphics. If you actually expect the game to look like this then just be prepared to be disappointed. At best, a few of these scenes are gameplay footage with post-rendering.

  • @myez Well, the in-game comes close to what they show here, and no matter what, it will certainly look a lot better than Napoleon, wich was already a good looking game considering that RTS's arent excactly famous for their graphics. But this of course means that it will take an even better computer to run than Napoleon, and that game requires a pretty good computer to start with.

  • I'm sure it'll look good; I was just sayin' that they are being misleading. It's going to be a while until RTS' really look this good.

  • @myez I dont know... if the graphics are not this or better i might be disappointed. but i suppose it depends on what type of crappy computer u are playing on. i know mine would run it at these graphics. oh and i think u are living in like 2002 when u say it will be years until RTS graphics look this good.

  • @heavyassaultgunship

The bulk of this video is intro (up till about a minute 20). That's pre-rendered jazz. Really, it's not feasible to have hundreds of units with that much detail, shadowing....environmental partials....I mean the mounting animation alone is something that would be impressive in an FPS. To have that with hundreds of units on your screen?

Oh, and I think you're in looney land if you think we will see that quality soon. It takes half a decade to develop a game, you know.

  • @myez

Really? in a FPS? ok then.... First of all, the shadowing isnt something i would be basing my argument on, and anyway it doesnt look THAT good. The rest of it does, but it isnt Holy Crap, I must be in the future good. Also I'd say that this is probably being run on a medium-high setting. Again not the 'FUTURE' (2018+) setting that you are talking about. and only hundreds of units? oh... i was hoping that you would at least try 'thousands'. Which i would still put my money on.

  • @heavyassaultgunship

It actually IS that good by RTS standards. You really don't know how much an RTS game can task a PC, do you? Shadowing quite a large factor in hardware demands....especially in an RTS. They would run the game on maximum if they were showing us real gameplay.....you really don't know what you're talking about do you? Can you even understand the processing power that would be required to render hundreds of units at this quality?

    And 8 years from 2011 is 2019.

  • @myez

yeah... again, i do know what it would require, and it isnt the supercomputer you seem to believe it needs. and in 2019, if this is the best they have, then that would be very sad indeed. but we will see in march, wont we?

  • @heavyassaultgunship

Not a super computer, but something better than the best today and that would ofcourse have to be the average computer. I was more thinking of advances in APIs to help streamline so many entities at such a high level. It takes 3-5 years to develop a high end game, that is factored in the time.

We have already seen, there are gameplay videos out and near the end of this video is gameplay. It does not match the beginning cinematic graphics in this video.

  • @myez

You should also realise that any software and hardware that we, as consumers can get a hold of is 5-7 years behind what the major companies can get, that is mainly so that software/hardware producers can get rid of their old stock. so the 3-5 years that you factor into the time doesnt mean much, it just means that when they are finished developing, consumers will have what they did at the beginning of production.

  • @heavyassaultgunship

I said high end games, didn't I? That means large projects such as Crysis or Oblivion, not games based on existing engines with little revamping. I don't blame you for not catching that though, there aren't many high end games, they are few and far inbetween. Still, to add to that you should understand many high end games tend to be WITH or AHEAD of available hardware when specced out. A classic example is Doom 3 that could not be maxed out for quite a while.

  • @heavyassaultgunship

Not to say that it will never happen, of course. Just not for another maybe 8 years.

  • @myez

    And 8 years from 2002 is 2010.

  • Oh, and I love the Total War series, don't get me wrong. Game companies just always mislead you by telling you that this is gameplay footage, but leave out the fact that they do a lot of post-production to pretty up the footage.

  • After shogun should be China:total War :)

  • @mbfreak22 lol

  • AND only if the game would actually look like that. These movie clips really entice. But I guess to actually play games in this quality I need to visit back in 10 years. I'm out.

  • lookds really good!, was i bit to young to play the first shogun, i really hope they do a remake of rome.

  • I hope they have ninjas in this xD

  • HOly shit. Its about time we go back to real total war

  • HOly shit.

  • Idk... I reckon they could do a world war one-ish era game? Mayb slightly before so machine guns dont just raw it out ya get me?

  • Damn, ive gotta buy a new computer

  • total war series have been realistic in clothing and buildings and way to fight. but this one is far from the reality. sumurai fought with spear not sword. and that kind of castle didnt exist this age.

  • Quote from video that will get the most thumbs up in the comment section

  • So when am I going to be able to go down to fight and be amongst my men? if boats where the big new feature in Empire, what will shogun 2 have? If it's medieval 2 with falling sakura leafs, i'm out.

  • @Sodomantis why would you want to play as one of the soldier?.. it ruin the whole strategic part of the game. In small scale war game like kingdom of fire or kessen 3.. it work fine. But this is a game that incorporate thousand of soldier on screen..it'll just be a bland hack and slash. What your saying its kinda like..why bother buying medieval 2.. when you could just play rome total war? or just download a medieval period mod for rome total war...

  • I think that made me most interested was the way the cavalry charge burst through the unit realistically instead of getting caight up on it (like RTW M2TW, NTW, ETW)

  • @HannibleBonaparte I know, me too :) Unfortunately as I had assumed, in the actual gameplay they just showed at Gamescom they behave the same as they always have. Same with foot units shifting about and fighting in semi-slow motion :(

  • Good thing i'm getting a new computer soon XD

  • hm.. i need a job, i HAVE to buy this game..

  • @b1346

    download it

  • The physics with the cavalry charge made me drool, holy crap that's amazing!

  • Holy crap, some of these comments are absolutely retarded.

  • Holy shit Steinmann did this, the guy who created the mass effect 2 cinematic trailers and the amazing hl2 machinimas like war of the servers. This guy fing rocks! Good on ya man, you really made it.

  • me seguem no twitter @adilson__santos

  • PEGGY SIXTEEN

  • @athropos they aint sonic and tails no more. lol.

  • As long as it dosent require steam im buying.

  • @bshort94

    Tottaly agreed

  • @bshort94 Hi, why do people hate Steam so much? I don't really care about it either way but I'm wondering about this because a lot of people keep saying they want it gone. I hate the dl times and I always buy box copies but are there other reasons?

  • idk why i laughed at pegi16. haha :)

  • god i cant wait for this game

  • @ExT3rZaN It's a perfectly acceptable reason.

  • i wish creative team takes over Warhammer mark of chaos from Namco and makes a warhammer themed rts in their own way..

  • America Total war : George Bush

  • That ship with the huge building thing on top looks like it has horrible stability and would fall over with sort of storm would come. Most likely since alot of stuff is being in the building thing like troops or whatever and making it unstable. You want most of your really heavy stuff in the bottom.

  • @KingofThrace

you sir must not know your ship tech. To be honest the ship structure that was shown in this trailer was probably the pinnacle of ship tech on the Asian shores although i myself don't know much about it or that it was really structure like that or if it was only the Chinese but they out performed the European ships during the age of discovery at least from what i remembered

  • best game ever made i can tell already.

  • I really hope my computer can play this!

Is this the same engine as that which was used in Empire and Napoleon?

  • I hope this game gets some good tracks of the japanese songs, that would be awesome

  • They are suppose to be allowing ninjas being used on the battlefield but you can't make huge armies of ninjas they allow a few on the battlefield

  • outstanding

    beautiful

    magnificent

  • i just cant wait :D

  • @RedDawn871 Why are ppl so stupid? This is actual gameplay footage! 0:05 Yes, right there: "All footage captured in-game".. Do I smell ownage?

  • Great !

  • i am so anxious for this game to come out. Cant wait to control units of samuria!

  • after this "China Total War"! must be done, throusands of years of history and military conflict and thats before rome even existed.

  • Will there be NINJAS?

    :D

No but seriously, ninjas were an actual part of Ancient Oriental Asia

  • after shogun 2 a game with spartans vs persia ^^

  • Their next game should be...Africa: Total War :P

  • only cuz of this game i will by me new laptop next year THX SEGA

  • This maybe the hints next game are Warring States: Total War.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War are study by the Japanese generals too.

  • Sun Tzu was chineese and had nothing to do with japan . i Don't understand why they put him in there .

  • @Comrade4561 Because the Japanese adapted the Chinese writing system to their own purposes, and at the same time took in countless of works of literature from them, and their upper class converted to Buddhism?

Japan wasn't cut off from the rest of the planet. They took cultural influence from their neighbours.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!!!

    i thing i need a new pc

for this game and crysis 2

  • @killerclown789 yea it is the game always has amazeing Graphics it looks like this when you about to send your soldiers into battle

  • Why the fuck are the soldiers ALL wearing a flag on their back? xD not all soldiers in Medieval Japan wore those flags

  • @whitelotus77 Actually they did, for identifying sides during this period.

  • OMFG i just came i still play the first shogun

  • This isn't gameplay.

  • Back to hand to hand combat <3

  • animation water is amaizing

  • I'm gonna need a bigger computer.

  • Finally, a trailer showing a sneak peek of the new gameplay, sweet!

  • Rome and Medieval total war was probably the best because it mainly concentrated on straight hand-to-hand combat. With the exceptions of a few muskets of Spain. I think Shogun 2 would be a smash hit in the series so far because of all the hand to hand action and plus... its freakin samurais and ninjas. What isnt cool about that?

Napoleon and Empire....not so much as exciting. The whole concept of 2 giant armies going face to face like 50 feet away shooting isnt as fun. The bayonet part is ehhh.

  • @Madfluffy187 Shogun will have guns aswell. The imperial army will try to get rid of all the samurai, just like in the film "The Last Samurai"

  • @killerclown789 The Imperial Army is fighting each other at this point so I don't think that Last Samurai scenario will occur. But that does not mean the game won't have guns either. Arquebuses and muskets ftw.

  • being able to have a big melee when charging will change the whole game !! all strategies'll have to be rethink. excited to see !

  • Soldiers armed with katana and other melee weapons gives me more action and heart-pounding than with rifles and cannons.

    Just my opinion... :-I

  • @jetli2188

Europe has the most interesting and varied history of all areas and times. This is undeniable. Europe made the world. Personally I would prefer Medieval 3... I mean Japan is just one nation.

  • @ihavekankles i agree europe or america should be the next total war game. japan is just 1 small counrty. its kinda like a step backwards because they have completley ditched muskets and the past games have always been getting closer to the present. but still its total war so im really exited

  • @soulraider40 Though Empire/Napoleon got closer to the modern age, Total War as a series has gone both forward and back in time.

Shogun to Medieval to Rome had all been backward steps in time periods.

On the other hand, Rome to Medieval 2 to Empire have been forward.

Also, because Shogun 2 is a remake of Shogun, there will also be guns in this game. However, I agree that Japan might be too small a scope. A China or Mongolia Total War would have had greater faction variety.

  • @jonharana oops forgot about original medevial soz

  • @soulraider40 The Japanese actually did make use of muskets - they came to Japan in 1543 with the Portuguese, admittedly they only had about 57 years to use them until peace came to Japan in 1600 (a bit later if you add in the Osaka campaign). Certainly, they were never really used on the scale that they were in the Americas or Europe, but stll.

As for ihavekankle's remark, I both live in Japan and study its history, I find it far more interesting than that of Europe, personally

  • @GaijinGDB thanks i did not know that they had muskets

  • @ihavekankles While I agree that returning to Sengoku era Japan is too small a scope, I disagree with your statement of Europe being the most interesting of all times. Before the Greco-Persian Wars, Europe would be pretty dull for a Total War game.

I would argue that China would be just as interesting as Europe for a Total War game, especially during the Warring States Period. Besides, they've already covered Greco-Roman, Medieval, and Enlightenment Europe- Total War needs a new setting.

  • @jonharana The Stone Age.

  • @jonharana

Before the Greco-Persian wars it would be boring? Before 400BC~ is was boring? Well, obviously. China is also too small of a scope. Sure there was a lot going on, but nowhere else is there so much variation than in Europe. The only thing I can think of that would really be interesting that hasn't already been done is 19th century onwards. Napoleon: Total War touched on it but very lightly. Perhaps 19th century onwards up and through the first world war, maybe further.

  • @ihavekankles I hope Total War games won't depict modern age, EVER.

I want their next game after Shogun 2 to be a remake of Rome Total War.

And you have a pretty Euro-centric view if you think that nothing interesting happened anywhere besides Europe.

  • @AinEstonia hey man they got to do medieval 3 total war

  • @AinEstonia you know how people get personally i think rome total war and shogun 1 where the best i hate the range game so empire was not my cup of tea.

  • @AinEstonia @AinEstonia umm world war one and the 19th century... it isnt modern age...

  • @AinEstonia The Total War games cannot possibly work in any era after guerrilla warfare was invented, so you probably don't have anything to worry about.

  • @AinEstonia well it might a challenge to go around the modern era and also some futuristic maybe... but of course the historical ones i think provide a better scenario

  • @AinEstonia That would be impossible anyway. Modern Age warfare doesn't need a huge number of soldiers facing each other off and relies more on machinery like tanks and aircrafts. There are plenty of games out there like that.

  • @AinEstonia They have said they won't depict modern-age games simply because the mechanics of warfare changed so much with World War One that they /cannot/ replicate it with a game.

  • @AinEstonia Yeah! I wanna see a worldwide one! Like what would happen if England went against the Mongols, or the Japanese invaded Europe, I mean, that's what these games are all about, right?

  • @Wikkiter No, that wouldn't work out. It would be hard to move modern day units in a Total War games, Total War games are all about big armies going against each other, and modern day war isn't like that.

And you couldn't make a game set in the pre modern era that featured all the nations, simply because it would be historically inaccurate.

  • @AinEstonia I didn't mean in modern times, I meant in the past. And as long as the armies and unit types are historically accurate? Since when did Britain conquer all of Europe? It never did, but I did in my NTW game. It's part of the fun, I want to see how Samurai would are against French knights etc..

Shogun: Total War 1 had a campaign where the Mongols launched a full invasion, which never happened. The question is what if? That's what makes TW fun in my opinion.

  • @Wikkiter Total War games still have some accuracy, Britain going against Mongols would be too inaccurate for my taste, and I wouldn't want a game that featured the entire world, simply because it would be harder to make a sequel that's exciting.

  • @AinEstonia Well at least you would have the freedom to have a campaign that you're interested in.

  • @Wikkiter And you're not interested in a campaign that takes place in Japan ?

  • @AinEstonia Eh? I never said that. It would be cool to create your own scenarios, to simulate what could have happened... I.e. if the Japanese won in Korea, then China, then went on to invade Europe.... that's just 1 example... you could lead the British in the War of Independence, or lead the USA on an invasion of Europe, anything, it would be cool an I'm sure plenty agree.

Not many people play Total War just so they can do exactly what has been done before..

  • @Wikkiter Yeah, but it's too far fetched, you might as well have a Total War game set in future. Like I said, Total war games strive more for historical accuracy, and not as major "what ifs" as China invading Europe.

  • @AinEstonia o.O I have to disagree there... Shogun 1 features a Mongol invasion campaign... I was under the impression that Total War was designed to put you in command of an army and see if you could succeed where historical commanders failed...

  • @Wikkiter um, Total war allows you to do that......

  • @TheMARINE216 It doesn't, each game is limited to a small area of the world such as Europe or Japan if you get me. Im suggesting a game that lets you, for example, pitch the Samurai against medieval knights.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMARINE216 It doesn't, each game is limited to a small area of the world such as Europe or Japan if you get me. Im suggesting a game that lets you, for example, pitch the Samurai against medieval knights.

  • @Wikkiter if people really want to have like samuri vs knights, thats what mods are for

  • @TheFifanacho That's what games are for.

  • @Wikkiter japanese invading europe.... thats not good
