I actually believe this song is about the struggle of accepting Catholicism, or any faith for that matter. Having the main character being named "Cath" is just a fitting play on words i feel. The well intentioned man is the faith but Cath can't accept it and doesn't fit in with the faith. This is why she is sad and doesn't want to be married, but she can't leave him because she is in a "hand-me-down weddding dress". The dress is the influence of her parents, and her vows are sealed by baptism.

I know many will disagree, but this album was the least interesting of Death Cabs for me. I mean I love it and this song is great, but this wouldn't be where I recommend anyone to start with Death Cab. Transatlanticism is pure magic and their best so far to me.

People say that this song Cath is one of their best and I was expecting this song to blow my mind when I first heard it a while ago. It's just average for me. I still can't find anything that compares to We Have The Facts. But anyway, these are just my opinions. Not here to start pointless arguments. Just enjoying the music.
