I think that you're sugarcoating the reality. America was built off of slavery and cheap labor. That's the only reason why they allow people of color to even live here. It's because they provide cheap labor and do the jobs that no one else wants to do. You have people living in shanty towns, eating mud cakes, and drinking from the same water that they urinate, defecate, and bathe in because they have no choice. I think that you're sugarcoating the reality. America was built off of slavery and cheap labor. That's the only reason why they allow people of color to even live here. It's because they provide cheap labor and do the jobs that no one else wants to do. Think about it: blacks came as slaves and worked the land for free for centuries, Asians came and worked the railroad for pennies, currently latinos work the jobs no one wants. My true nationality is American. I was born, raised, and acculturated in American society therefore I couldn't be anything but American. My true nationality is not African for two reasons: 1. 95% of Haiti is black and 5% is mulatto or white. The Haitian diaspora is different. The diaspora outside of Haiti is all kinds of colors and mixes but claim Haitian descent above all.

@landriesable I agree.. I don't know why people see Haitians as only only african. When I tell people I am of Haitian heritage they usually never believe me anyways. Its because the media doesn't parade Haitians like me that are of mixed descent. Its crazy that there is still a stigma towards Haitians and of who they are. And most of what people perceive Haitians to be, are pure stereotypes. When you"re Haitian they expect you to look bad, and if you're the opposite you're questioned.

Africa is an INCREDIBLY diverse CONTINENT. This is no one singular phenotype of the continent. Do some research.
Just like other cultures of yellow, brown, or black people (Indians, Jamaicans, Dominicans, South East Asians, etc.) there are myriads of skin tones and other features for an array of reasons.

@martinkb10 what you fail to understand is beauty is about preferance and opinion. To say that those with black features are less attractive and those with whiter are more beautiful is racism. Some people may find those with dark skin and black features more attractive than those with eurocetric features and vice versa. Haitian people have always taken pride in being black no matter how light or dark we appear. If you can't accept it then stay out of Haiti.

It's not Haitian that's beautiful. It's the African Race in general. Umm you can be 100% Haitian and light skin ..... like people may forget this but in Haiti it's really hot and sunny. Everyone knows that when exposed to a lot of sun it makes you darker more or less for some. My point is that you really don't know a persons "true skin color" until exposed to less sun or looking at their stomach. My mom is very light skin but both her parents skin color were very dark by sight until later i realized they weren't. This may not apply to all Haitians but some
