No, I don't think it's the same guy, although he looks and sounds a lot like him. I know for sure though that the guy in Happy Gilmore was in the original version of "The Longest Yard" with Burt Reynolds.
I'm related to Butch Cassidy on his mom's side and apparently after he was reported "dead" with his encounter with the Bolivian Army, he was at the ranch. This was what his sister told my dad and I'm not sure it was true. But a friend of Butch apparently identified the body so that he could go and lay low for the rest of his life.
My dad told me that he got to hold Butch's gun when he was a kid too but he said he never really knew what it was because he was very young and now looks back on it like it was the greatest thing in his life.
Brand new biography at amazon (Paul Newman: The Dream Has Ended). They say it is the first bio on Newman since his sad passing! Jenifer demers is the author!
Robert is sooooo chilled out in this scene, well for that fact he was chilled thru out the movie..epitome of cool..but this movie belonged to paul newman..he was just incredible and his comic timing was epic..
Ted also bears a strong resemblance to "Richard Kiel", but detested being compared or confused with acromegalic actor, who played "Jaws," the assassin with stainless steel teeth, in two James Bond films.
William Goldman's script calls this "the most aesthetically exquisite kick in the balls in the history of modern American cinema." Nearly 40 years later, that claim still holds.
This is without a doubt one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen! Both Redford and Newman are geniuses. Y'know, a big part of why this is so hilarious is that this is supposed to be a WESTERN, there's supposed to be big fistfights in westerns, but this western doesn't follow the rules, the bad guy gets kicked in the nuts by the good guy right away instead of getting beaten up by the good guy after a fight. THAT'S what sets this movie apart the other westerns, that's what makes it so great.
On the anniversary DVD of this movie, the movie's director said this particular scene had a very hard time getting pass the censors because it was deemed "too violent" for audiences. It was finally allowed, but not before the film was given a "for mature audiences" rating first in the theaters (this was still the 1960s). Today it's considered a "family movie" and children all over giggle with delight over this scene. Amazing how things have changed.
Educated your kids in the right way and you'll see that not even if the watch and play games like grand theft auto they will not confuse reality with a film or a game... It is up to you as a parent not to what they see on TV.... don't be so ignorant please
lol a huge guy like butch had to fight kept on trying to get me to box him i kept saying no but one day him and his little crowd cornerd me nd i remeberd the film did wot butch did and got out of it lol butch and sundance forever!
Ted (Lurch) Cassidy was in real life an erudite and very intelligent man. It's a shame he was such a scary looking bastard because he got pigeon-holed into scary looking bastard roles as a consequence.
Harvey Logan (or Kid Curry as he was otherwise known) was a man of small to medium build, not a great hulking guy like Ted Cassidy who plays him in this scene. Also he was the best gun of the band, not the Sundance Kid. But if you allow for the historical inaccuracies, it's still a great scene from a great film.
