  • 9 bucks? 12? So hard to buy a new one? nvm i think you like to do everythin by your self so i will shut my mouth now :)

Lots of respect tho in your expierience and knowledge.

  • what does the switch on the opposite side of the thottle hold switch do? Nice Video also.

  • have you heard of the new cp3 yet

  • I never fly with my Idle up switch on! due to this expirence! I grabed my heli and bumped the switch! and it was a blender on the ground! only new blades and tail rotor! I have a Blade cp-pro now for a year!

  • i typed in i broke my balls 2 see sum 1 break there balls in a stunt gone wrong or sumthing LIKE THAT instead i get this BULLCRAP

  • fuck you

  • I did the same thing. When I got my first helicopter, I thought you could hook up the battery before the remote was turned on. Well, you cant do that, and it went full throttle and flew into the ceiling, then took off across the room and hit the wall.

  • can u give me some more tips on how the remote works like switches ans stuff if thats ok

  • I just post a video for Ya

  • Thanks Dave, it really helped me! I also have a honey bee cp2 and I broke a ball of the head rotor.

  • hey dave my name is chris and i was wondering if you could give me some tips about the honey bee cp2 because i might get one but i dont know how good it flys and im at a 4 ch helicopter right now and its time to move on. ya that would be good. and this vid gave one tip so thanks

  • I have about 20 videos on the Honeybee CP2 and really like mine. If you watch them, you will certainly know how they work.

I appreciate your frustration in trying to find a heli. No heli is stable. There are no magic bullets either.

I always say learn on a VW, and if you never crash it, then get the Porsche!

Request my 9 Heli Flying Tips and Rules of Thumb for more insight. But I would get a HB CP2 before jumping into a full forced 3d machine.

    Good luck, Dave.

  • I had to use this method twice when one of my blades struck a pole sticking out of the ground when landing. It works like a charm, however I will probably buy some spare's to replace the screws with sometime! I probably would have been SOL if I didn't remember this video!

  • Thanks kindly. Good luck too.

  • how much is a bubble bee and where can i get 1 they look good

  • See the link in the description box. They are from $79-$129 for the CP2 like above.

  • funny i hit something with mine and it broke ball joint off the arm on the rotor head set worth trying your method before buying new

  • Cant hurt to try.

  • Mc Gyver would be proud!!

  • same thing happened 2 me. funny enough i just came across this video 10 mins before i crashed. Great tip!!!!!

  • Thanks kindly. Good luck with it.

  • Nam huh.......... Siemper fi brother, hooraah

  • ok , in my city i'm the only one who fly helis for now "(santiago republica dominicana)" i'm a latin.

i've 8 helis 6 electric and 2 nitro ,i fix all by my selft, this is not too hard to fix but you know it take (time, time, time )lol and is good to heard ideas from the others.

if i can't fix it them i'll make a video.

sorry for my bad english and thanks

  • Good luck to you. Its hard to do by yourself, but you will learn good, as you know. English if fine. Relax. Regards.

  • thanks for response , but i know that i need to do that the problem is in the head, maybe inside the grips or something... any idea

  • Nope, just study the drawing closely in the back of the book and look for something wrong. Maybe take it to someone to look at it too. There aren't many people who fly helis at hobby shops. Lots talk the talk, but dont walk the walk. If you take your time and know why and how helis work, you will figure it out. Make a video of it and maybe we can see too. Good luck.

  • i have tracking problem can you help me

  • Put white tape or white out paint so you can see which blade is flying higher at 3/4 throttle. Use the arm to raise the lower flying blade. Good luck

    Dave

  • Throttle Hold??? your thinking about "idle up". Throttle hold it when the throttle is most commonly in the idle position for auto rotations and the idle up switch is for 3D flying.

  • A rose by any other name still smells the same. In the beginning 30 years ago, we called it throttle hold, because the motor/engine for 3d is held close to wide open for stunt flying. Idle up, is for autorotates. Since my TX is all programmable, I can call it whatever I want as I fly The MAS method.

    Dave (AKA Nightflyyer)

I blocked myself from replying to my own videos AS MYSELF, till You Tube Figures out what went wrong and how to fix it,

so I am answering as NightflyyersShadow.

  • I think that when you are using the tail rotor motor, when you push the air against the motor, I think it should balance out the heat problem a bit. Lucky that a honeybee is not a gas heli, or you could have broken the tail boom in half, the blades, servo, or other things. Good Job dave. That is pretty helpful if I get a Heli. 5/5

  • Thanks kindly. Not much air blown on the motor from the main rotor on a honeybee, but it all helps.

  • what video editer do use?

  • Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus.

  • dear Dave, while shifting i dismantled my hb mk 3...though i have rebuilt it,i am confused with the sockets of the main motor and the tail motor as to which one will go in which socket. please guide. and also would like to know if it is necessary to use heat sinks for the blade CX2 or it does well even without. thanks always.

  • If you wait 5 minutes between 5 minute flights, you will rest the motors and your brain, so heatsinks are not required. They will extend the life of the motors a bit. I dont have a Mk 3, but on my Mk2, the tail rotor is plugged into the top of the 4 in one and the main in the bottom. Red wires down.

  • Oh, just wondering can Walkera 60 290mm blades fit the hbk2 without mod?

wanna trade the wing fer my conversion van lol

  • That might work okay, if they are the same length but I don't have a Walkera 60 so cant say for certain. Let us know how it goes if you try that.

  • Ps. Sorry about the Wing Trade, but nope. I gotta have my Wings ya know. LOL.

  • he he that's why you the man! i hv been trying with no luck to find a diagram on plugging up the receiver on th hbk2 with new 3900 brushless, 25 amp esc and hh gyro with stock tx, ya know we ol time Army vets like pic's so is it possible to get a simple one emailed me? also would love to find rc heli history on the internet again with pics. hey take er easy brick7985@msn

  • Thanks. Well, I dont have a HBK2, so cant take any pictures to send you. If you plug your speed control into the throttle slot on the RX, that should work and the Gyro plugs into the rudder channel slot, and that should work. The other 3 wires from the servos remain the same. Good luck.

  • hey dave were do you buy gromets at?

  • They come with servos. I never bought any actually.

  • hi i bought a lama v3 and i decided to get upgraded parts for it. they are all alluminum and carbon fiber. now sence i put all the new parts on (body, moters, headset, tail) this heli has no tail roter. but now every time i take it off and when it gets airborn the top roter stops.(it has counter rotating blades) and it goes crazy. but when i hold it in my hand and put on power to the moters the top roter does not stop. and i also think it has a trim problem because it spins faster then normal help?

  • There is one motor for each rotor. I think you stripped a gear, or the gear isn't meshing on the motor that runs the top rotor. Remember don't move the helicopter when you plug in the battery, till the light is on all steady.

  • is the landing skid from plastic?do u think this heli would last for years without problems?

whats the best price u have "met?"

i love honeybee s but i dunno which one is the best for me.does hbk2 has any problems?or belt cp?

    thnx!5*

  • Plastic skids, but the rods are carbon fibre. If you never crash, it lasts a long time. I have flown mine 100's of times in all kinds of weather and places for over a year now, and it still is going strong.

King II is better for tail rotor control and my choice. But if you do not know how to fly at all get a Honeybee Fixed pitch. (usually around $79 with a radio.)

I have a friend that sells them on ebay and he has the best deals. You can email and ask him.

    bkm11112000@yahoo(.)com He is Brian.

  • thnx very much!!!

  • dave i am new to rc helicopter is there any one you recomend in this price range 400-700 dollers p[lease help me

  • If your just learning, I would suggest buying a RC simulator, like Aerofly pro deluxe first. Helicopters are only mastered by about 4% of the people who try because they become frustrated and run out of money for parts. I would then recommend an Esky Lama v4 or a Blade Cx2 to start with, as they give you more time to learn the controls, yet still are steerable helicopters. Also study my 9 heli tips.

  • thanxs this will help i already studied those tips there very help fun and very exiting videos about helicopters

  • Hi Dave!

I am interested in buying the blade cp pro or another helis in its' class. My only real concern is about the tail,

Should i get one that has a tail motor or a belt drive (know any pros/cons?)

And why is the pro so much more expensive then other helis in its class

PS. I love the vids, they give me a fix for my addiction!!

  • The Blade CP Pro is an ETRM heli. For learning hover and slight forward flights, it is fine. If you want to do 3 dimensional stunt flying, you better go with a tail rotor driven by a belt.

    Thanks for the kind comments.

  • Hey Dave, Love the videos, storm launcher and CP2 honeybee. Finally having some success with the CP2. What is the TRN switch on the right top of the controller do? also, I broke the other end of the same part, the ball on the top, do think I could try this repair there? I have parts coming but it sucks to be grounded. oh yeah, where can I find your 9 heli tips?

  • Thanks kindly. If you are careful, of course you can, and if you cant, well nothing ventured......

The TRN trainer switch is used to connect a second persons transmitter to yours to teach him. It is momentarily contact, so you are flying, you pull the switch and the guy on the second Transmitter now has control. When he is crashing, you let go, get control again and save the day. Supposedly! My 9 tips are away in a pm.

  • ...got nabbed by the 5000 character monster... heres the end of the prior posting....

Someone having fun, doing good for others, and they, the 'buttheads' gotta TRY to find the negative. And they tried hard, I just don't understand why, what is too be gained by being a rude jerk to someone you do not know ? Doesn't seem you let them get to you though, thank goodness for that. Take care Dave.

  • Thanks very kindly for your comments. I appreciate that. Messages like yours are the reason I stay good. Only 1 percent like to role play and show ignorance to the hobby and life. That is a low average. And of course I would subscribe to Rotory mag. It is first class.

  • Hey Dave, thanks for the heads up about Mike Mas and 'Rotory', never would have discovered it otherwise. Registered at the forum yesterday, been doing lots of reading, considering a sub to the mag,I suppose you'd recommend it ??

Been watching a lot of your other vids.... CANNOT BELIEVE the buttheads out there, talk about making a ass out of oneself, hiding behind the PC screen really makes some brave, and seems to increase the average doorknobs intelligence as well...sheesh.

  • Very nice Dave. I love 'MacGyvering' things back to good working condition. Couldnt help but notice the PZ Cessna box in the background, just got one a few months back, and really just got around to flying it. Fun little plane, almost uncrashable its so darn light.

Took a bunch of the downthrust out, handles the bumpy air outside better, a lot better. Love the vids.

  • Thanks kindly. Yes the PZ is a fun plane for sure.

  • i broke a ball link off the rotor head set on my CP2...

how did you put a hole where the ball used to be attached?

  • I used a very tiny drill bit. I made a dent with a number 11 X-acto blade first.

  • you should edit out the plate on the car . there be alot of odd folks these days. keep the vids coming. you give me an idea. im going to do some vids it will be called fun with cheap stuff. cheap being under 100.00 bucks

  • what is the use of the trottel hold????

does it makes u fly inverdid???

  • It is designed to lock the throttle open and then the trottle stick on the transmitter, only runs the main rotor pitch which is reversed at low throttle and zero degrees at center stick. It is designed for nice loops, etc, but the Honeybee with ETRM does not do well inverted. You need a Belt driven tail for the best results. If your just learning to hover, you will never need throttle hold.

  • hello Dave.i just got my first honeybee mark 3.thanks a lot for ur videos have helped me a lot and i learnt what i've got. i started with the picco z all the way to hb mark 3 through gyrotor and skywatcher. is there any vid of urs explaining the transmitter of the hb mk 3? m not able to understand what the small stick parallel to the aerial on the right front of the transmitter for. thanks

  • Thanks. Do you mean the trim lever beside the Aileron stick?

  • oh yes ''TRN'' is marked above that lever.

  • what is that stick for? it resembles exactly the thin metallic throttle hold stick, which my transmitter doesnt have. to be precise my transmitter is the 0404 model. behind it the FCC ID is RSK-ESKYSZ05

  • Yes, that is the TRAINER switch. It is momentary. It is used when you have a second TX plugged into yours. It is so a second person can learn to fly. You hold the switch back, and the second transmitter is in control. When he starts to crash, you let go of the switch then you have control again.

  • thanks a lot Dave.

  • nice work.

  • Thanks kindly. I flew it all day yesterday, and you would never know anything was wrong. I think when I break the other side, I will fix it the same way as it it stronger now too.

  • I had to replace my stabilizer control hub twice on my cp cause those damn balls broke

  • Bummer. They dont take crashes well, that is for sure. Fix them all this way, and it will be much stronger.

  • You are unbelievable with what you can do, I thank you so much for your video's you have helped me out with them. And i am sure many others.. So Thank you..

  • Thank very much for the kind comments.

  • nice smart job...well done!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • Contoller this is the same as the lama v3

  • Yes.

  • i believe that's not call throttle hold...

that's idle up switch or stunt mode switch.

throttle hold switch on a programmable transmitter is irregardless of the stick position or idle up switch position, throttle will be zero.

  • In the the old days we called it Throttle hold, because it holds the throttle at 85% allowing pitch changes only. On the other side of transmitter, there is supposed to be a throttle hold switch for auto rotates. That one holds the throttle at 10% for autorrotates. Either way, they both hold the throttle, however the HB CP2, has only the 3d switch, which is dangerous for people who don't know how to fly, and why I emphasize it holds the throttle open and must be shut off immediately if you crash.

  • that's mean it's different from today's setting? because now can set throttle curve and pitch curve at the stunt setting...

  • Yes, if you have a computer radio. When we invented throttle hold switches in the old days, we simply cut the power to the Throttle servo with the switch hooked to another servo. The throttle stayed wherever it was set. Turning it back on restarted the servo. I assume you are an accomplished pilot, as this will never be needed unless you decide to attempt inverted flying.

  • Dave,

I am new to heli, been watching your videos on you tube. I have several questions I would like to ask. If you were just statrting today with heli what flight sim would you use? Do I need to get heat sinks for my HoneyBee King 2 so I don't burn out the motors?

    Thanks

    papadewey3026

  • (CP) helis are quite a handful. Fly a good sim 1st like Aerofly Pro Deluxe. They're just like the real thing. If you cant fly the Sim, then forget the model unless you have lots of $ for parts, time and patience. Memorize my 9 helicopter tips. It also helps to have some coordination too, because you have to move both sticks in all directions ALL the time! There is never a dead moment! If you just stop every couple of minutes when learning for motors to cool and brain too, you will be fine.

  • PS.

Blade CX2 or Esky Lama are good next steps. They give you time to learn the controls See my video on the Blace Cx2.

  • Dave, Are there heli in Aerofly which give similar flying feel to Honey Bee King CP2. Do you know of any other sim that maybe are not as pricey. Paying more for the sim than heli my wife bought would be hard to sell. I know it will save parts, BUT. Can you help me, Dave. After watching all your videos I never found anyone with as many skills done well as you. You don't by chance want to sell the Esky sim. Would these really teach me to fly the Honey Bee.

    Thanks papadewey3026

  • The cheaper versions of sims only teach orientation, which is important, but not realistic. The Piccolo is the closest to the Honeybee, but there are lots of free downloads for other similar helis for Aerofly. Sorry, I gave my Esky sim away already. Just buy one. They are only $20, and see for yourself, none of them can hurt when your learning, as they are all tools.

  • Nice Fix Dave !! It works, Flyin again in no time. LOL

  • you spellednight flyyer wrong it supposed to have 1 y

  • NO I didnt! That is the way I spelled it for my Youtube account. Come on! What is your name supposed to mean?

  • jaden is my real name 15 is my favorate number and 92 is the year I was born that is what it is supposed to mean

  • I guess because you had to explain your name. You made fun of my spelling, (because Nightflyer was already taken) but my name does not need any explanation of what I do. I fly RC models in the dark.

  • oh ok i no make fun tou name i live little sigone

  • First off...love your helpfull videos! I jusy bought a Honey Bee King 2 as my 1st heli! I am very skeptic and was not able to fly it nor hover it out of the box! I took it outside and flew backwards...rarely fwd! Anyhow do you know if the E flite Blade parts are compatible as there are the only parts around other then ordering from Hong Kong! I live in Canada! Any tips will help. Thanks and keep up the cool vids!!!

  • Parts are unlikely the same. Best bet is online. This is is not a beginners heli. (CP) helis are quite a handful. Fly a good sim 1st like Aerofly Pro Deluxe. They're just like the real thing. If you cant fly the Sim, then forget the model unless you have lots of $ for parts, time and patience. Memorize my 9 helicopter tips,I sent in a PM. It also helps to have some coordination too, because you have to move both sticks in all directions ALL the time! There is never a dead moment.

  • Can you recemmend a good place, hopefully in the States for Esky Honey Bee King parts? If I didn't have to, I'd prefer not to order again from Asia! Thanks for your reply.

  • rchelicopterparts(.)com

  • cp2 is my favourite

  • when r u putting in the new vid??

  • Which one? Our weather here is 10 degrees above zero and lots of snow, so I need some better weather to make my Part II of the Blade 400, outdoor flying. It is hard to fly 3D with gloves on.

  • Dave,

Sorry to keep buggin you,"even though you helped start my addiction" :) I have decided against a 6 channel for now. I am going to get a sim so me and my son can both learn. Which is better Aerofly pro deluxe or G4? And is the usb controller AFPD any good?

  • AFPD is hands down winner. You need to have a good video card. (It was given the world wide award as being best) The USB controller that it comes with is well suited for it, however it will also run with your regular RC Computer radios.

    Good luck.

  • I greatly appreciate what you are doing for R/C. I have a computer I built for gaming so I know it will keep up. Thank you again.

  • Thanks kindly and good luck. You will truely enjoy it and with Aerofly, you can download airplanes and helicopters, and other wild stuff free.

  • Dave another excellent video 1st rate again.

And a question or 2 for you. I am thinkin of gettin this heli with tax return. But do you think the AR6200 like the blade 400 has would be too heavy for it. I want to get the DX6i so I can have a good radio to use for this, CX2, and some planes. Any help would be great. Thanks Bob

  • Well good for you but the radio that comes with this heli has a speed control and mixer for the ETRM in it. THe AR6200 is light enough but no way to run the ETRM. Stick with the stock setup. It is fine as is. See my video on the Blade 400.

  • i ve seen ur videos on metacafe!!

    made a n a/c there too.....huh?

  • Pardon me but what in a n a/c?

  • oh! its an account.

  • Yes, I put a few vids up on there.

  • haha!!good luck on metacafe!!

  • what is that on the bottom becausei just bouhgt

a beginner's helicopter and did not have enough

to buy a anti crash kit?

  • See my video on "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly em,if you cannot see them". Those are modified arm floats for swimming and work well for seeing.

  • hey dave i just uploaded my video review of the Esky lama V4 it came in the mail today and it is sweet!

    please rate and comment!

  • It is great. Thanks.

  • The location of the throttle hold switch is one of the things I don't like about the Honey bee TX.

I was running up the motor to about 60% in my garage to check for vibration (I had no intention of lifting off). I was holding the throttle with thumb and index (which puts your middle finger behind that switch). I accidentally flicked it on and it took off and hit whacked the blades. Fortunately I only damaged the blade, but it sure pissed me off.

    Jeff

  • I agree. That switch has ALWAYS been trouble for me over the years!

  • Great tip Dave, now why didn't I thing of that LOL :)

  • Happy Birthday

  • Ha ha. Thanks kindly. The big 60!

  • Nice fix....... would be a good mod on old joints....

  • Thanks....Old Joints?

  • ..Old Joints?

    Ball links.... :-)

  • I think I could replace them all this way, if I had too, but not til I break another.

  • awesome fix for a common problem btw thats the Idle Up switch the Throttle hold switch cuts power from the motor but allows mechanical movement.

  • Thanks. There is only a Throttle hold switch on the right top of the CP2 TX. It locks the throttle at 85% and the pitch only moves for 3D flying. There is no Idle up switch, (like my blade 400 or the King 2). That switch is to be set for a low motor setting for doing auto rotates and is on the right side of the tx.

  • Great Vid on the fixing dave. what is that weird looking thing at the top of your controller next to the throttle hold switch?

  • Thanks. That is a mechanical timer. I can set the time on it for like 5 minutes. Then when time is up, it makes a noise and vibrates. Then I know it is time to land...

  • ive always wanted to know wat that was thanks

  • oh thats a nice little thing to have.

  • Nice little Fix Thanks for the Video

  • Thanks very much.

  • Is this something that would last or is it advisable to get replacement parts?

Thanks for the vid btw. Always informative.

  • I wouldn't have done it if it wouldn't last long. Since I needed to fly this heli today at an indoor demonstration, it worked for me without waiting for parts. My fix is way more stronger than the stock setup too. They only thing that would ever wear out would be the rubber grommet, but the movement is so slight, it would take years. Thanks for the kind comments.

  • Great fix-it Dave! I know it'd be VERY small. But would this fix affect the balance of the rotor head in any negative way, since the screw likely weighs more than the plastic ball did. 5-Stars for saving folks $ and time.

  • PS- Why have you disabled the ability to make your videos smaller? I like that feature in order to sharpen some videos for these 50 year old eyes!

  • I did not disable that feature. I noticed that too, and agree with you. My eyes are 60 tonight at Midnight and not that good anymore either. I think that is a youtube change.

  • Thanks kindly. NO problem on the balance. It isn't perfect anyway, if you see the big piece of brown 100 MPH tape I have on the blade to balance them.

  • instead of the balancing tape on the rotor, would it not be best to modity the ball socket on the oppisite side too?

  • No, the screw is so light it has no effect on blade balance as it is so close to the main shaft. My tape is from balancing blades from months ago. The tape weighs WAY more than the screw. However if I ever break the other one, I will do it the same way. Guess I could have done that to both side too, now that you mention it.

  • great on everything the end is a great idea, copyright date. and its great that u fly when u are not video taping. do u fly a lot im still amazed on how good u fly and treat and know ur helicopters

  • Thanks kindly for your comments. Yes, I fly when I can. Wait til you see the Snow video Jeff and I made yesterday. It is cold, but we are determined to fly. Practice makes Perfect, right?

  • true that. i love all the thing u reply with. and thanks a lot for replying

  • Thanks very kindly. I try. I answer over 200 or so questions/comments a day!

  • Wow...I broke that same part about two weeks ago. I had to use replacement parts. I'll try your fix if there is a next time.

Also...see my email I sent today. I need some suggestions on changing the main frame of my bee ! Thanks for your vids!

  • Thanks. I have answered, and will have to further investigate the gear deal.

  • david...i truely have to say...that your a jenious! I dont know HOW you figured this out...but you did! 5 stars for davey =P

  • I really appreciate that. I am nowhere near anyplace to get parts and always try to fix stuff first, before I spend any effort on replacements. Thanks kindly for your remarks.

  • Great fix. You're smarter than the average bear. I'd have probably never thought of that. But then again, you've been flying for longer than I've been alive, you 59 yr and 364 day old kid! hahaha

  • Thanks Jeff. Yep, I'm on the 60 year old fence today. Gee? I'm surprised I made it this far too. We Marines don't have long life expectancies.

  • very nice to see the honeybee up and running from what happened :D just wish i could do something like that, my servo has givven up on me, i opened it and some teeth on the gears were missing, im going to get a new 1... again lol and i was just wondering, could i be able to get a small servo, the same size but with metal gears which wuld make it much better :D, and once again, fab vid, this may help me if mine breaks to and its good to see your still with the honeybee good vid once again dave :D!

  • Metal gear servos mean you will break something else instead. Stick with stock. Thanks for the Kudos.

  • nice one dave your very gd at fixing helis =]
