@erniepond1 Are regions at The Ridge this year? Nice i remember going there in year 5 for athletics carnival, the place is really new. yea i hope i see you there, but i probably wont make it .... ill have to keep training...
As you know, Thibaut is a real freak. I get him whenever to show the younger boys how to jump.
With Kyle and Mitch, I am working on getting them to land on their shoulders.
Kyle did this at State relays last Sunday jumping a PB.
Send me your details in a private message through my identity page. What age group are you and what LA club. I do train at Homebush on some sundays. Helping Joel who beat Thibaut at CHS and All Schools. Joel is over 1-90m tall, so I jumped at the chance to coach him.
It is called attacking the bar. With the younger boys, I use a short run up ,usually just the curve with one or two walk in steps to start. This will force you to speed up for you to clear the bar. In training, my younger boys miss clearing most attempts. Then I tell them to speed up.
You will also need to get a really good run up so that you won't need to look at the bar anywhere during your jumping attempt, This is exactly the same for long and triple jumps.
Thibaut does not need to do any basic technique work. All I do with him is to try and correct his body twist over the bar. I would also like him to double throw with both arms like Joel.
But Thibaut jumping two LA State records makes it very difficult for me to get him to do this.
My three 12 year olds jumped 1.50m this week so they are very enthusiastic. None of them are freaks like Thibaut so they need technique work.
@erniepond1 nice.. my age manager says that my run ups stuffed up, i think i might need to change it. i think i slow down at the attack phase of my run up. How do u tell ur boys to calculate their run up.
I coached the winner since he was 10 year old. He is very slim still and our secret is in his over the bar layout. He wraps himself around the bar like in Hollis Conway's videos.

In Sydney, we are spoilt. At both Homebush and Illawong we have access to world class high jumping surfaces and equipment.
This helps heaps. The boys can really attack the bar flat out.
Joel is a big boy, that is for sure. Full of enthusiasm, not like THibaut at all.
He is going to represent his school in teams events of Aust All Schools. Has to compete against boys a year older. Hope he enjoys himself down there.
WE have LA Regions at Illawong LA in February. Hope to see you there.

@lukigumbi975
All my boys I train are playing basketball or AFL or both.
Looking at Hollis Conway training videos would be my recommendation to you.
The important think is to have fun trying !

@erniepond1 Thanks, umm should i start by building my muscles in my legs... or just focus on technique?

@lukigumbi975
Do both if your technique needs changing.
Thibaut does not need to do any basic technique work. All I do with him is to try and correct his body twist over the bar. I would also like him to double throw with both arms like Joel.
