I am a bona-fide Whovian - I like all the Actors that play the doctor but have a special place in my heart for the Seventh Doctor Sylvestor McCoy - I have met him and cuddled him and got his autograph.

Personally I can't wait to see Matt Smiths portrayal - all of them give their own individual take on the character - proving that we are all multi-dimensional in our individual personality.

I vastly prefer Martha Jones for THESE reasons:

1. She's much smarter than Rose ever was (she's studying to be a doctor & not just "working in a shop" like Rose).

2. She has much better fashion sense (Rose looked white trash a lot of the time to me).

3. She's the first non-white companion I can think of (and no, aliens don't count).

Your focus on the ethnic traits of the actors, rather then their acting abilities is somewhat worrying. Sure, miss Jones was training as a doctor. But she became to involved too quickly to be realistic as a character. It took Rose some time to get over the weird things about the doctor and his duties. In an effort to create an original companion, they ruined her. I'm not saying the actress was at fault in any way. The writers just jumped in too early, and made her too willing to accept.
