dont get me wrong, i love both the original and this series... but the acting can often seem fake and not really brilliant =/ ..... still, its entertaining and I love watching it ^^

i remember watching this when i was younger it was on tv now i am collecting the videos for it i have five get into trouble and five go adventuring again, had five on a treasure island parts 1 & 2 but sadly i don't know where i have put it. each episode has a great storyline and they are all very exciting to watch. the cast of the famous five are just brilliant i am collecting famous five stuff at the moment so if anyone has anything to do with the 1995/ 1996 tv series can you let me know?

I got these for my young nephews. I also watched them all, excellent, the characters just how I imagined, esp. George and Uncle Quentin.

Some plots are hurried, maybe due to limited time.The stories with two episodes depicted the atmosphere better.

I now chuckle at some things eg secret passages everywhere, but as a child I found it all plausible.

As Enid Blyton said, the only opinions that count were those of her young readers.

One episode missing is Smugglers Top...?

When I was a kid my father told me about this series and sice he's really good at telling stories I went down to the library(once in a lifetime) and borrowed some famous five books.

@mrpolarordinoid123 Jemima Rooper (George) is the only one who is really still acting. Marco WIlliamson (Julian) is more interested in directing/producing/writing these days (search for My Amersham on youtube and watch the first result to see his work). Paul Child (Dick) now plays the guitar and is an aspiring musician. Laura Petela (Anne) is a sales and events coator in Bristol.

I am just SO thrilled to have found these Famous Five videos. Thanks so much for sharing them with all of us fans around the world. I am 55 years old and I read these books in about 1964 growing up in Australia and I have recently been reliving my childhood by re-reading them. I love all the Famous Five books and I always wished someone had put them on film. Thanks Phoebe for sharing them with us. I can't wait to watch them all and re read them.

@georgekirrin5 They're from the mid-190s. I used to watch them when I was younger and loved them, so I started looking for them on DVD and found a copy from Holland (I think). I'm glad you're enjoying them.

I think that this one (1996) was filmed better than the one from 1978. it just sounds better than the other one.

Yes, I prefer this one too because they stuck to the books rather than trying to modernize it. That's part of the magic about Enid Blyton for me, the time and setting.

I grew up with the 78 version, so it has a lot of sentimental feel for me, but I think both series are fun. I like the fact this stays closer tot he books as well.

I also really like the fact that this series is more authentic in terms of clothing, settings etc, and sticks to the books. But I do much prefer the actors from the 70s one. I really don't like aunt fanny and uncle quentin on here.
