This was absolutely perfect for me! I was able to field strip and (finally) clean my lightly used S&W "Scandium" 1911PD .45 without a hitch just by following along. I was a bit intimidated, but no longer! Many Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I just got an American Classic II 1911 which is very similar to your S&W. The disassembly and reassembly instructions have no illustrations. This is my first 1911 so your video made things simple.
Is this process any different with the shorter concealed carry ones? I inherited a Colt Mk. IV 380 from my dad and wanted to go shoot it sometime soon. Thanks.
I am considering ordering one of these. How has yours been? any issues? How is the finish? I own a SA GI right now and I would like a 1911 with somewhat of a Blued finish, and yours looks like that. Does it feed hollow point ammunition reliably? Great video and a beautiful 1911.
@jermz999 For me it's been 100% reliable, even with hollowpoint. No major issues. Thumb safety is a bit easier to engage and disengage than I'd like, but not what I'd call "loose." Finish is beautiful, kind of a polished blue on the flats. Should patina nicely in a leather holster. Thanks for watching!
@RaidingWindmills Yours is the best review on how to field strip the S & W 1911 pistol, Thank's for posting. I love my new 1911 & I even bought a couple of Tripps magazines to use with it, Great Magazines
wow 1911's have alot of pieces to them.... Other guns I have owned & field stripped have maybe 4 pieces tops. The barrel, guide rod, coil, & slide is usually all that is in a regular firearm I owned, this thing has about 10 parts to take apart & remember...
@mauiboynokaoi That recoil spring that your using compressess kind of to easy, if it is a 16 lb spring it should have more tension than that one you are using for the demo?
Thanks a lot. I like your gun. I was looking at the S&W price ranges and this style you have here is what I'd buy if I saved my moolah. US $1000.00 is a lot of money for a pistol though... Also looking at a Browning Buck Mark Practical URX .22 for fun.
@perspicacity89 Yeah I've learned some about firearms in general now. Saw one of them at the gun shop. Looked nice. If I were going to pay 3000 it'd probably be for a BR or AR though. Most mid-to-high-price guns are very nice. Their parts are well machined--even the innards look pro. The innards are thick metal--not just plastic or unpolished aluminum. Expect to pay US $600+ for a decent centerfire pistol or rifle. I wonder how much the US Army pays for its M16's. Anyone know?
can you advice me which is more reliable handgun between 1911 smith ans wesson brand and the 1911 version of para ordnance PXT high cap. limited? Thanks in advance
The S&W is going to be a better gun, they are made from forged frames and slides where as the Para's are cast, 1911's are not meant to be doublestacks and thats why they have problems
@Campawan Sorry, I don't have experience with the Para Ord PXT. I have heard stories of the power extractor breaking in some guns and people have a tough time ordering that part to replace it. However, there is a 1,000 round non-stop shooting test that a Pro did on YT. You might wanna check that out, but it is not the high-cap model.
@RaidingWindmills QUESTION ? think that when I re- assessembled my SA 1911 I put the bigger end of the recoil spring on the recoil rod but after I got it all re assessembled & operated the slide it seems to work ok, I am going to fire about 100 rds to break in this new gun then I will re field stripp it & re clean it 7 this time I will make sure to correct the position of that spring, Do you think that it's ok to fire this gun with the spring the way that I assessembled it ?
@MyREDTAIL I'm not exactly sure because I've never tried it myself. It's always been habit for me to put the tight end on first because it help with reassembly by not falling off the guide rod when I try to put it back together. Be sure to let us know if something goes wrong. :]
well done on this video my s&w 1911 is my favorite gun shoot it once a week at the range never jams extremely accurate and I conceal carry every day love it put it against any other 1911's out there
@graveler01 I paid about $900 for this gun. I don't know about any .22LR conversions for the S&W 1911. What do you mean about "regular" .45? If you mean .45Colt, then that is the classic revolver round. The .45ACP was specifically made for semi-auto and it is shorter overall.
When it comes to 1911's, I've always been partial to the A1 configuration (Springfield GI and Milspec, etc.). A great gun, and I hope to own one some day.
@kowa45 I have modified my S&W 1911 and I believe in the external extractor design. Although, I do have a Springfield and it has a classic internal extractor and it has been just as reliable thus far. The fitting is tighter and accuracy is greater on my Smith, compared to my Springfield.
Thanks much dude. I just picked up a S&W 1911 Compact ES. The stubby guide rod threw me off -- I thought all smith 1911s came with a full length guide rod. Your video really helped.
Hi Raiding. Nice Vid & Nice S&W. Too expensive for me. I own Springfield Armory 1911's. Anyway, do you believe in using a Shock Buff on the recoil guide rod? Some people say is helps the frame last longer by sort of cushioning the slamming - but with me it causes the guide rod to be pushed back just far enough to cause problems - i.e. it will not line up properly - fails to lock back on last round and throws the whole thing off. Just wanted to know what you think re: Shock Buff. Thx JAMES.
I have heard from 1911 experts/gunsmiths that shock buffers do help extend the life of the frame, and that it may be ok for use in your gun while practicing, but they say to take it out for defensive carry because, like you have observed, they can cause reliability probs. I like to keep my S&W 1911 all factory with just one modification. I'll reveal that later in a review.
good to see a 1911 vid, can't wait for the review of it. also i noticed in another of your videos you had a stainless springfield armory 1911. what are the differences between the S@W and the springfield 1911's? thanks

@ntrudr800 If you think a $1000 is a lot for a handgun, try looking at Ed Brown, Les Baers, and Wilson Combat 1911s.
Those high end 1911s are well over $2000, approaching the $3000 mark. Wilsons are ever more expensive.
