My grandmother's name was Lorena Mae Abbott Dehart and it was pronounced Loreena. Her nickname was Reen. Lore(h)na is the more popular modern version of the name.
The battle fields have long since absorbed the blood of those who sacrificed and died in that effort yet I sometimes wonder how their hearts longed for home when they heard songs such as this. Could that have been their inspiration, their purpose to endure the hardships of this bloody conflict, to put love above themselves in their moment of descision to make the ultimate sacrifice? This beautiful song allows a glimpse back to that time.
Reminisecnt of John Hartford's version, this one is beautifully rendered. I also contributed a somewhat different version of this wistful ballad on my channel, along the lines of a Norman Luboff arrangement (as I take the liberty, or maybe the audacity, to include as an attachment). Deserved thumbs up. Cordially, John
I'm currently living in California. I used to live in Northern Virgina and this video takes me back to The Civil War battlefields and museums. Such as Gettysburg, Manassas, Appomattox, Shilo etc. There were so many battles all over the eastern states during this Civil War!

Oh, who cares about the pronunciation? It is beautiful regardless.

It's not pronounced Loreena... it's a soft e, not a long e. Like "do-re-me" - Lo-re-na.

Love the way the pictures fit the lyrics of the song at the right time---that had to take a lot thought and time. Thanks for posting, TR
