@KosukiFire I'm not the expert here, but I know the older Patrols have a Booster reel, and having just used six guys and a fork lift to put a booster reel back on one of their 1981 Patrols given to the Fire Museum I know they add a lot of weight. I imagine the cross lay is giving them the same result, without the weight cost, which is a factor in a small patrol, they can carry more water into the field if they aren't carry the booster reel.
