This is a great message I am thinking not going back to my family's church because the pastor is 'wasting' his pulpit by preaching his opinion on things rather than what God is saying. so I don't hear the Bible i hear the pastor. God Bless

I do not think that that's what Piper is saying. Truth does exist outside of the Scriptures, that's called general revelation. However, the only source of CERTAIN truth can be found only in the Bible, that's called special revelation. Look at Paul's weighty exhortation to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4. "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the WORD..." Preach the Word. We dare not disobey Paul.

Besides reading basically every word in his books? Have you bothered to read future grace where he says that faith is trust in the future promise of god to sanctify you? He defines faith and obedience, and in doing so he owes Rome an apology because we never should have split.

I would absolutely agree. Future Grace is flat out heresy, it defines faith AS obedience and active. This is unbiblical, for saving faith is passive and justification comes by the active faith of Jesus Christ and His earned righteousness for us. We actively pursue in faith after our passive reception of God's gift, but we do not continue to 'obedient faith' to finally be sanctified and/or glorified. These problems come about since Piper sees no Law/Gospel distinction, just like Daniel Fuller.

Paul explains that obedience comes from faith. This is a cause and effect relationship. If you want to say that obedience indicates the presence of faith I would say that is true and what James is talking about in his book. If you say that obedience or the expectation of obedience IS faith that is untrue and not supported by any scripture, but specifically Romans 1. The two are related (cause/effect) but they are not redundancies, they are different acts and have different meanings.

If it is not relevant to the culture at hand then it is not going to resonate with the people. Driscoll has phenomenal theology and all his stuff is biblical, Paul was just as vulgar with the church at Corinth and Isaiah talked about menstrual rags. Be understanding and loving. It is a sad fact at how false teachings are everywhere. How people believe they need to change stuff and mold it into something else then what the Bible says...

Jesus Christ is my treasure. The way of the narrow gate is through treasuring Christ, and Christ alone. We must turn from the idols the world displays, and then we will endure to the end. If we don't turn from the idols then how is it that Christ is our treasure?
